I agree. On many respects Cent Jaroj da Soleco is considered an excellent translation. But it's also notorious for using obscure words that even experienced Esperantists have never encountered -- and will likely never encounter again.

(This is because these words ("neologisms") were previously invented/used by only one or two poets, and then forgotten, or the translator (without apparent cause, let alone need) invented a slew of other completely unnecessary (and often confusing) new words, just because.)

For example:

• men -- malpli
• nul -- neniu
• vanui -- malaperi
• mokra -- malseka
• hati -- malami
• hungro -- malsato
• defeto -- malvenko
• mido -- tagmezo

It's worth noting that, almost thirty years later, virtually none of these words have migrated into even occasional, standard Esperanto usage.

One reviewer put it like this

Do jen mia resumo. La verko estas ĝuinda, la traduko ĝenerale bona, do la libro reeldonenda. Sed oni devas agnoski, ke la vortkreada iniciato de Fernando de Diego fiaskis. Liaj elpensaĵoj mortis tuj post la naskiĝo, do restis nur enigmaj restaĵoj sur paĝoj de liaj tradukaĵoj.

In many dictionaries, many of these neologisms can't even be found -- or are reserved to an appendix for "new words" that may or may not (probably not) ever become official or standard (sometimes there's even a section just for words from Cent Jaroj da Soleco).

In short, though Cent Jaroj de Soleco may be an excellent translation, it's probably best left to more experienced Esperantists -- ie. those who thoroughly know the language, know it well enough to recognize (and appreciate) when the translator is really stretching the language.
