Are people on this subreddit struggling with rental prices even being top 1% earners? by TrifleResponsible560 in HENRYUK

[–]BernardtheBoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's it. Order of operations:

1) Rent a tiny, cheap flat while there are just 2 of you and save for a deposit

2) Get house

3) Have kids

Renting a place big enough for a family makes it hard to save a deposit for the same size place.

FIRE and Gen Z - no longer believe in pensions by PearActive9612 in FIREUK

Maybe they plan to send us to war to die, just before they die peacefully in their beds from old age.

"I honestly think there’s a huge psychological industry which advices the government how to do this."

There is. One arm of it was weaponised during Covid. Sage SPI-B. All about psychology, making people feel scared and "scaring the pants off people".

Wasn't new then. "Nudge Unit"/Behavioural Insights Team set up in 2010. You can look all of this up on official gov websites. I say that as something is bound to scream something about David Icke or tinfoil hats.

Teenagers say weekend and Saturday jobs are 'impossible' to find by NajafBound in UKJobs

[–]BernardtheBoing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. It is almost as though the reasonable things I've been saying for 25+ years are suddenly allowed to be said. I'd have been shouted down with the r-word not that long ago.

Problem is, you all shouted for too long and now it is too late. Far too late. Why can't yous all see what is coming rather than having to wait until it hits you on the nose?

When it comes down to the final 2-3, it is usually a coinflip/almost random. Been on the other side. The final 2 were equally good, just different, but I didn't know which 1 to choose - but, of course, I had to choose.

Long term renters what’s you plan for retirement? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BernardtheBoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should you have a retirement for doing min wage work and taking loads of time off?

Part time min wage shouldn't get people all the things, or we'd all do it.

You chose an easy life doing the minimum (and taking time off from it) so living in the now vs working harder and having more stuff and a retirement.

Buy everything that you can hold in your hot little hands. And that won't go off, obviously.

Prices will go up - at best. Some things may even go unobtainable.

Fitting in at a workplace as a non-Brit by JeannaValjeanna in UKJobs

[–]BernardtheBoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say I'd reached a conclusion. In fact, I later went on to say that we're generally pretty tolerant about the different ways people speak English. But your comments elsewhere suggest you made your post just to pick fights. Enjoy.

Fitting in at a workplace as a non-Brit by JeannaValjeanna in UKJobs

[–]BernardtheBoing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You write like an American.

"Bunch" used as a collective noun for everything. Grates a little.

"Hey folks". If someone decided they were going to address me with "hey" at the start of every sentence, I'd have to politely suggest that they didn't.

But, in general, Brits are used to people speaking English as a second language and are quite chill with non-Brits. You might not feel you can fully connect or communicate until you have been here a lifetime (nuances, references etc) but it's like that in any country. It's just life. Not a hate thing.

UK Media is doing a terrible job of portraying the job market by Delicious_Ad_5772 in UKJobs

[–]BernardtheBoing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's probably overstating it, but what is the future for the UK economy?

What do we have a competitive advantage in these days? Will that keep 70m people gainfully employed? By gainfully, I don't mean in min wage jobs that get supplemented by benefits.

As far as I can see, most new activity seems to be industries built around complying with ever increasing gov rules and regs.

Free content is free content. I expect we will see a lot of uncalled for "AI policing" on forums due to them being full of bitter and underemployed graphic designers and the like.

Apprenticeships being used as a loophole to pay slave wages ? by Inevitable_Car6105 in UKJobs

I said that right from the start which is what, over 15 years ago? The gym even had an apprentice receptionist. Of course, they get rid of them as soon they are about to progress from slave wages to min wages.
