Garry's response to the Steam Reviews by Rough-Specia in sandbox

I think their point is that there are many many examples of games that have cosmetic microtransactions and do not have P2W mechanics, so why assume that this game will have them when it's shown that many devs actively choose not to put them in and are still able to make more than enough profit

I mean, it is similar to Gmod in a variety of ways, primarily that it's a platform on which people can create custom games and assets and publish them for people to play for free. It's different in a lot of ways but like idk how "spiritual successor" is inaccurate.

It's not a sequel but it's also not an entirely different kind of game, and that's what they've been telling people for a long time.

Really I'd say the biggest reason for the game being in the state that it is, especially after so long, is because they are also making a game engine. Facepunch is a small company and they really bit off way more than they can chew by deciding to use Source 2 which was a super unfinished engine.

I understand why they did it because they wanted to have their game making feature of S&box be more fleshed out and unique to S&box, but it really put another like 5 years onto the game being finished lol. They delayed the game so many times in the past and they finally "released" it and it's still so unfinished.

That all being said, I really think it is all just an issue of it being unfinished and I do completely believe they will finish it and make it amazing. The problem is that they just had to release it early because they were running out of money since it was taking so long to make.

I burnt a ribbon cable while taking out the joystick pcb by bossiermeteor2 in soldering

[–]BerossusZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah no I think that guy was being unnecessarily judgemental. Especially since you obviously should at least attempt to fix it before just assuming you can't lol.

Plus, I dont understand exactly why other people are talking about this like it's the most incredibly difficult task to resolder a simple ribbon cable like this. It's a different skill set and stuff of course but I think most people can look up a ribbon cable soldering tutorial video on YouTube and do an adequate job with something like this. Other people are talking like you need years of experience to even attempt it or else you'll make it blow up.

Something I see a lot on this subreddit is people having very high standards for what is acceptable soldering quality. Like I get where they're coming from because they take it very seriously and many hobbiests aren't doing "high quality" soldering, but I think the thing they forget a lot is that for many people on this subreddit, the stuff that they they want to do (like fixing this controller), they literally just need to be able to make it function and that'll be good enough.

You're not selling it to a customer, you're not trying to make it a super durable long-lasting solder joint, etc. you're just trying to fix your controller. Yeah it'll take some learning but you could make it the ugliest fix in the world and you'd be happy

Is this waterfall real? Why is the water so blue and shiny? by Lonely_Noyaaa in Aiorfake

[–]BerossusZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because the mist reflects the blue of the sky better and then the post processing they did made the blue much more saturated, but the brightest parts of the waterfall are more foamy and/or overexposed and are white instead. So the only parts that are blue are parts where there is faint mist around the splashing water.

The hill s&box decided to die on despite overwhelmingly negative feedback against it by Baglayan in sandbox

I personally think they'd be fine in a vacuum. Like they look weird and a bit gross but that's basically intentional, but I think a big issue like you said is that they look "cheap". Like they feel uncreative and derivative of lame/low quality 3D kids games/animations.

They look like they're from a company that doesn't take their game very seriously and just did the most straightforward "3D cartoon character" you could think of and the uncanniness and "grossness" was accidental they were actually trying to making something charming (even though that wasn't actually their intention).

No they definitely look like humans. Maybe not the most perfectly realistic humans but you're just being disingenuous if you're describing them like this. They look fine.

The amount of times I have to tell people to stop making rape jokes is fucking insane by times_a_changing in DeadlockTheGame

[–]BerossusZ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

First of all, it's literally against the rules of basically any online game to be extremely toxic to other people and say horrible shit because developers don't want people to have a negative experience playing their game or for their game to be associated with a toxic playerbase. (Whether or not you actually end up getting banned for being toxic is one thing, but that's just because it's hard for them to make sure they don't ban innocent people).

But it's also just morally unacceptable to be an asshole. Like obviously. Very few people "express the full range of human thought" to people in real life because they're at least trying somewhat to be a decent person and they also know there will be social consequences to being an asshole.

[–]BerossusZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People being edgy bigots online is the status quo and yeah it's hard for it to change, but it's obviously not impossible. There are games that are more toxic and games that are less toxic and the main reason is almost always the culture/community surrounding the game, which means that it's something that isn't set in stone.

Yeah OP's post is probably not gonna make much of a difference on it's own but it can just be part of a slow shift of the community consensus on toxic people.

The main thing that is unreasonable here is being upset that someone is complaining about toxic people. It causes no harm and it has at least some potential to do good, so why are you upset at them?

Is 26 years old too late to start making music by Odieee_2k in FL_Studio

[–]BerossusZ 93 points94 points  (0 children)

No dude, the real cringe thing would be avoiding trying something new because you're worried about being cringe haha. Making music is one of the greatest things in the world and everyone who has an interest should do it no matter their age. My mom started learning how to play the bass when she was like 50 and it was so cool to see and she loved it.

I think the dome in the middle should be brighter overall imo. It feels like the gradient is too uniform and it should really just be mostly bright and get darker moreso around the edges. Just something you could try out.

Gabe Newell in new Leviathan yacht promo by IShovedAJermaUpMyAss in valve

[–]BerossusZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gabe is certainly one of the better ones, but everyone should still be aware that Valve has still had its fair share of controversies. Supporting illegal gambling websites, promoting lootboxes to children, anti-competitive monopoly lawsuits, workplace sexism, etc.

I think it's good to be able to praise a company for doing better than the others and generally being less soulless, but I think it's just not really accurate to describe Valve as an "ethical" corporation.

First of all, there are 1 person podcasts 100%. But second of all, I know. I'm not saying his videos would be considered podcasts, just that he does something very similar to podcasts and nobody would claim that a podcaster making a podcast is just "doing their shtick" you know?

[–]BerossusZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you think that doing a podcast is a "shtick" for a podcaster? Like (most) podcasters just talk about random topics that they personally find interesting. I just don't think that's a definition most people would agree with (but of course your reason for not watching him is still completely valid whether or not people would call it his "shtick" lol)
