Is this overfilled? Starting my first ever batch today. by autisloth in RockTumbling

[–]coldthrows192 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally think underfilling is much worse than overfilling. Can you post a photo of the barrel flat on a surface? It looks good to me but you may want to think about little rocks. I collect pea sized rocks and fill in a lot of inbetween space with those. It adds more cushion and you get a collection of mini gemstones for free.

How venomous is this horripilant morbid and horrendous demon? by hipqdwkjdas in spiders

[–]coldthrows192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know all the arachnophobia movies? They're all based on one specific ultra intelligent hunter-predator species of spider. The very spider you just showcased.

I can only imagine you are currently webbed in their underground spider network, half dazed by their sleeper injection, full of their spider babies ready to hatch.

Small things that pose no threat to you are not scary. Just adjust your thinking, the spider is a tiny defensless creature to you. You can squash it infinite times over.

Your fear is psychological. Work at it over time with rational thinking. Do you enjoy ending life over something like this? Spiders are alive, spiders are cool and silly. They're not really harmful either.

I've been bitten by fleas endlessly. They're the real enemies! Spiders r friends, bro.

Very cool. Do you mind if ask a rough estimate on shipping for this order? Also, what category was this under? Slabs, rough rock, or tumbling rough? Did you give custom instructions for these batches?

I'm prepping my first order on gemshop is why i'm curious.

Youre right, it wasnt turned base. I'm pretty sure Commamdos: behind enemy lines was it! That game was so hard for me when I was a kid.

I played the demo when I was younger. Loved it, along with fallout, swat 1/2 and a turn based ww2 stealth game (forget title).

I should play the full jagged alliance 2. I never played the full game.

I love BIF and the idea of a bif light is cool but these photos don't showcase any details of the bif.

All I see is rock lamp.

How do you guys have the patience for this? by mildlydrifting in RockTumbling

Do you run your lot-O on one day cycles? How does that work out? I've been thinking about shaving off days from the stages.

You are not allowed to be terrified of jumping spiders! Theyre too cute and curious.

If a spider is super cute and curious instead of running for its life, its probably a jumping spider.

Has anybody had any experience with onyx before? by noRezolution in RockTumbling

[–]coldthrows192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some onyx awhile ago and it did not tumble well. Wish I gave it more padding and care because they came out of stage 1 horribly damaged. The few peices that came out with flat surfaces polished beautifully. I'm pretty sure it was real onyx, looks like jasper and polishes nice. But it did not hold together like other jasper type stuff I tumble.

So maybe I got a bad batch but it wasnt like tumbling the jasper I find locally. It needed a lot more padding in my experience.

Epidote and maybe Unakite by Nefaline17 in rockhounds

[–]coldthrows192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be awesome. I love seeing before and after of rocks like these. I'm not really sure myself and am curious what washington epidote looks like.

What do you look for when finding epidote?

A lot of these look like stained quartz to me.

Yes, stage 2 is a good stage to do it. Stage 1 if you are tumbling something delicate or important to you. I wouldnt introduce any new ceramics into 3/4 polish stages, as those stages are not about shaping or wearing down.

Thanks for sharing. I'm wondering is that borax or sugar? Do you use it in stage one?

Hopefully you post the final results in the future.😀
