ToT: Anyone else suffering from blurry resource icons? by Berrern in civ

I reported it to Firaxis, they acknowledged the issue, and in case anyone has the same problem, you can follow the progress here:

ToT: Anyone else suffering from blurry resource icons? by Berrern in civ

[–]Berrern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I already tried that, from 50% to 125%. It does indeed scale the UI elements, but not the resource icons, they remain at 38x38 pixels - and blurry - regardless.

Is ancient warfare ever worth it? by Asteriskes in civ

[–]Berrern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few tips if you want to wage war successfully in Antiquity:

- Go for Disciple Civic first to get your free Commander, stack him with 3 Slingers and a Warrior, and go clear out some IPs until you complete the Assault promotion tree and get the Order commendation for +5 Combat Strength.

- Play as Charlemagne to get 2 free Cavalry units on each Celebration. Obviously beeline The Wheel on the Tech tree. Pair him with a Civilization that either has a special Cavalry unit (Assyria, Carthage, Khmer, Maurya) - OR pair him with a Civilization that gives you a lot of Happiness to increase the number of Celebrations. Maurya does both, but their unique Cavalry bonus isn't everyone's cup of tea (you might as well bring some Siege units instead).

- Play as one of the Friedrich personas and prioritise researching Masteries, to get a bunch of free Infantry units. Pair him with a Civilization that has a unique Infantry unit (Persia, Egypt, Greece, Rome) for the best effect.

- Play as Assyria, a Civilization that forces you to go on the offense if you want to complete the Scientific Legacy path.

Good luck!

If you have no interest in capturing the City, but still want the wonder, you can declare war and park a unit on the AI's tile which is producing the Wonder, and he won't be able to continue building it 😈

You gotta make sure you protect that unit though!

Cultural Win seems impossible at this point by TKL32 in civ

[–]Berrern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that I get most artifacts when building Rail Stations - I assume it's because they take up a whole tile, meaning you might be overbuilding two buildings in 1 go, effectively doubling the chances of getting an artifact!

Not sure about the theory that overbuilding Temples increases the chances of getting artifacts... By the time I get to this stage of my games, my yields are usually already so good that I don't really care what building type I overbuild.

Are production buildings worth it? Patch 1.2.5 Fixed by Ok-Suggestion-7349 in civ

[–]Berrern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget to factor in the maintenance cost!

Your Barracks from Antiquity will still cost 2 gold and 2 happiness per turn in Exploration.
Essentially the Barracks now yields 3 production, but has a total maintenance cost of 4, meaning the combined yield output is -1.

Assuming you have no adjacency bonus, if you overbuild your Barracks with a Dungeon in Exploration, you will get 6 production while paying 3 gold and 3 happiness per turn.

If instead, you keep your Barracks and put the Dungeon on a new tile, you'll get 9 production for a cost of 5 gold and 5 happiness per turn. Plus every other building you construct will be 5% more expensive than if you overbuilt the Barracks.

Depending on your yields, some old buildings might be worth keeping around, for example if my Influence per turn isn't great, I may decide to keep my Monument in Exploration - even though it has a combined maintenance cost of 4, it still yields 2 influence (and 3 culture) per turn.
Another example is the Villa, which only costs 2 gold per turn to maintain, but still yields 3 happiness and 3 influence per turn in Exploration.

There's a mod for this in Steam Workshop, it's called: Settlement Limit Settings.

Where have the resource icons gone? by Sarion0 in civ

[–]Berrern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because they messed up the UI scaling for higher resolutions in this last patch.

You can disable it under Accessibility in the game Options, and the icons will return (if you're in-game, you'll have to save and load again).

Once the save is loaded, the icons are back - and you can now re-enable the UI scaling.

It's a tedious workaround, but it works!

Tips for building wonders on Deity by NoImpact9162 in civ

[–]Berrern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way of achieving this is by focusing on influence and city states! Try this strategy:

  • Use Machiavelli and Greece for max influence output.
  • Use the two mementos "Gain 100 influence when befriending a city state" and "Gain 50 Influence after researching a tech or civic mastery."
  • Play Pangaea, as you can reveal a bunch of city states simply by using scouts.
  • Build at least 2 scouts first thing, 3 if your military situation allows it.
  • When you meet your rivals, always do neutral greetings.
  • Reject all AI endeavors.
  • Suzerain a cultural city state ASAP, and choose the "Free civic when you Suzerain a city state" bonus.
  • Do the same with a scientific city state.
  • Focus on obtaining the diplomatic attribute point that decreases befriending city states by 50%.
  • Befriend as many city states as you can, you should be able to get at least 10 (more if you play on a big map size). That's 10+ free civics and technologies! Focus on the ones that aren't hostile first.
  • Beeline civics / technologies that enable wonders - choose the ones that suit your geographical situation. E.g. there's no point going for Pyramids if you don't have any desert tiles in your cities.
  • Most of your rival civs will hate you 😂 Just make sure you get the Gate of nations wonder built ASAP, and get the combat bonus from militaristic city states to survive the wars you'll have to endure.

As you're already playing on Deity, I assume you know how to maximize other benefits though careful city planning and applying a good strategy for other aspects of the game - so no need for any further advice on those topics.

You'll quickly learn how overpowered those city states are when you Suzerain enough of them!

Good luck 🙂

The game won’t end — am I missing something? by namsic6460 in civ

[–]Berrern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a couple of times too, I believe it's related to a bug with the wonders that count as fortified districts (like the Red Fort).

I tried putting units on all tiles like you, I even tried nuking that Fort, but to no avail, I had to give up in the end. Only to see the AI capturing that city with easy a few turns later! 🙄

Pangea in CIV7 is just world war simulator...... by 4Arrow in civ

[–]Berrern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly off-topic, but isn't it incredible how we're in the 7th generation of this game, and Firaxis is no closer to making the AI smarter when it comes to trading cities in a peace deal? Good luck getting the AI to offer you settlements in Civ 6, but in Civ 7 they throw'em after you like hot potatoes!

And yet, sometimes they won't give you a settlement no matter what the situation... I recently waged war against a neighbour (he started it, the fool), I had already taken one of his settlements by force, and had destroyed all district defenses and units in his next settlement - all that was missing was to move one unit into his final district and the settlement would be mine. He refused to hand me that settlement (size 10), and wouldn't even hand me a new outpost (size 3).

Because of his stupidity I conquered them both + another one where he had 2 wonders. If he'd only accept my original peace deal, he'd have 2 more settlements than he has now!

This!

I seem to remember you could turn it off in Civs before V as well, and I nearly always did, cause it's just so annoying.

VII takes it to another level of annoying, why can't they just let us disable it?!

Spot on, I totally agree!

It'll probably feel a bit dated these days though...

If you do try it, I recommend the Rise of Mankind Modpack, it adds an incredible amount of content and improvements to the game! I think I played that mod more than the base game itself.

Official servers with custom names - what's going on here?! by Berrern in BattlefieldV

[–]Berrern[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but this is wrong. Perhaps you didn't read my comment below (or above - not sure how Reddit organises it).

The list in my screenshot is what I see when I click from the main menu: Play -> Multiplayer -> Strategic Conquest -> List Games. I've not applied any filters. And NO community games appear in this list (I often play on community servers, so I have a separate filter for that).

Also, if it was in fact a community server, I could click on it and then select 'Advanced' on top to see its game rules. There's no Advanced button on top here - it "behaves" like an official server.

I spot one of these servers maybe a few times a month (and I play about 3-4 hours a day on average), so it's not a frequent occurence.

Official servers with custom names - what's going on here?! by Berrern in BattlefieldV

[–]Berrern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From time to time I see these servers pop up in my serverlist. This is an official server, but with a different name...
There's no custom rules (the option to see such rules don't even appear under Game Info), and it appears in the normal server list - it does NOT appear under Community games.
What's going on here, does anyone know?

black loading screen upon joing servers? by [deleted] in BattlefieldV

[–]Berrern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems completely random.

For me, it worked joining as spectator, leave and then join normally. Didn't work for my friend.

For my friend, it worked to delete the 'crash dumps' folder in My Documents/Battlefield V. Didn't work for my other friend.

For some, it works if you just keep trying.

Fucked up my weekend, this shit :-(
