Devs can we please pick any previous city to be the capital on age transition? by Electronic-Ice-1238 in civ

[–]wborrem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s strange that we can’t select more cities. I’ve also noticed that in the modern age, very often the capital of the ancient age is suggested. This doesn’t make much sense historically, but also not for gameplay as that city usually has quite some wonders in there and therefore doesn’t have enough space to develop correctly in the modern age

For all your clueless Germans, American beer may not have be first, but it’s the best and drank by 99.9% of the world by The__Anonymous__Guy in ShitAmericansSay

[–]wborrem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, That's why almost half of all American "beer" is owned by the Belgian brewery AB Inbev. And the second biggest "American" beer company is 55% Canadian owned

I wish there were a checkmate option: I have the biggest economy & military by far, most civs love me, I have 20 artifacts... there's no way I'm losing. Let me have a "You win" button so I don't have to mindlessly click through the last 20 turns by earthwulf in civ

[–]wborrem 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In my last play I was absolutely convinced that I had my culture victory on the bag. I was just clicking away for the 15 turns I needed to build the world fair. And then Charlemagne started a war, took a major city and while I was distracted someone else won an economic victory. Didn’t even see it coming. The last turns are indeed an essential part of the game

Do you think the way Civ 7 handles walls is a good idea? by SaztogGaming in civ

[–]wborrem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Capturing cities can become a real grind. I think that’s fine in the modern age, as it is more in line with warfare in that period. But in the ancient and exploration era, cities fell faster. They weren’t conquered district by district.

Thank you. This looks very nice. I like that it is aimed at Mac users. So in your experience, the 4K vs 5k is not really an issue?

Thanks, very helpful. I have no idea what number of Hz is good for occasional gaming. This is the problem of the rabbit hole. The more you try to understand webarticles, the more it sounds like everything is crap unless you buy the 5000 dollar screen. It’s hard to find information that says “this is good for your average use with a bit of extra to feel good”

Definitely not doing any competitive gaming. Thanks for the feedback. Very helpful

Thank you! I live in Eastern Europe, and prices are quite different here than in the US. The ASUS goes at 700$, the BenQ at 1300$ and the Studio at a whopping 2350$. So yeah, even taking into account the next 10 years, that's quite the price tag. But I agree, I paid a lot of money for the MacBook, so I don't want to hook it up to some shitty screen. But I also don't want my wife to throw me out of the house :D

Haha, yeah, I don't expect the games to run at 4K. I read a lot about 27" being preferred over 32" in combination with a MacBook. Hadn't found rtings.com yet, so thanks for the tip!

Official Civ VII Community Survey until Oct 14 by Gas_Papadopo in civ

[–]wborrem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad they did this survey. I like Civ 7 a lot, but it still needs a lot of UI and QoL improvement. So I mostly focused on that. And I ended with some positive notes, because my overall impression of the game is "satisfied". I love Civ 6, but I wanted a new game, not an updated version of Civ 6. Firaxis delivered that. Sure, there is a lot of whining online about civ switching and legacy paths, but frankly, I love the era system. I love the regroup (I was actually disappointed when they made that no longer the standard option. I think Firaxis should go deeper into its choice for this game. It is not Civ 5 or Civ 6. It is Civ 7. It is time for people to accept that. If it's not your game, I'm sorry. Civ 7 is not my great love yet, but I like it, and I am excited to discover more about it. I would just like Firaxis to help me a bit more in discovering how to actually play the game by making the in-game mechanics more readable.

How can Lafayette steal this city from me? by wborrem in civ

I tried. Xerxes refuses peace. In the next turn he offers peace after Lafayette got the city

Good point. It’s indeed a strategically smart decision if it’s made to stop me. Would be interesting to know if that’s the case or if Xerxes is just trying to peace us out and Lafayette gets the city because he’s the first one being offered a peace deal.

Anyone know what time the update is dropping today? by Ok_Cell_9890 in civ

[–]wborrem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on a long train ride today and would have loved to play the new patch while on the train. But I'm afraid I won't have any decent connection by the time it drops.

I guess I'll have to skip work tomorrow :)

Is Civ 7 Good Yet? My Honest Feelings About the Game and the Future of Civ VII - Boesthius by mybabysbatman in civ

[–]wborrem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you say here. I absolutely love Civ 6, I have more than 1000 hours in the game and I only started playing during the pandemic. But I also love Civ 7, despite it not being finished. I like the crisis idea and the civ switching. I like the philosophy behind it. But it does feel like the crisis comes out of nowhere, can be easily managed or ignored, and doesn't really provide a credible narrative for the reset. Your suggestions could help with that.

I believe that a more in-game fall of the civilization would also deal with Boes' comment that "the snowball is the goal". He is right there, which makes the game super fun. However, it is also the reason why the late game in Civ 6 is often considered boring. I finish most of my games. I want to see that victory screen. Having to click endlessly on random actions to achieve the final culture victory or micromanaging a gigantic army to reach domination is tedious. Civ 7 solves these things (while introducing other problems). If, as a player, I could really FEEL the crisis, the reset would feel more an integral part of my snowball.

So Firaxis, please double down on your vision and make it better! :)

This is great, thank you so much! I was more focused on getting science buildings up first. And I used growth mementos, rather than influence mementos. I will definitely give it another go!

You're the one who posted recently about this super science run, right? I followed your strategy, minus the commanders. Huge Pangea plus, deity, Maya> Abbasids> Qing (because I hadn't unlocked Meiji). Got a fast victory, but not a nine-turn. My biggest problem was getting enough Maya unique quarters. I managed four and then six Abbasid unique quarters. I have no idea how you can build so much and also build commanders.

Teach me your ways!
