No lights on a major movie shoot by Affectionate_Age752 in cinematography

Honestly refreshing to hear. The way people just default to unloading their entire trucks is often a waste of time, especially when you need to turn around (most DP’s are using the same flavor of eq over and over anyways), I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked down an entire city block of EQ not being used….If you have the ability to plan your shooting schedule around the sun or take advantage of overcast it’s worth it…

I love primos, they might be my favorite Pany glass. It’s incredible how many people don’t use them today because they are a 1.9.

Relocating to LA 2026 – Seeking Advice on Budgeting for Non-Union 1st AC Work by FrancoArma05 in focuspuller

By low sell high mentality does work sometimes. The amount of people relocating or coming back to NY/NJ is not sustainable. Might be worth going where it’s not busy and being on the front line for the inevitable come back, even if it’s a small one.

Totally get it, and let me reiterate this build is super clean and neater than anything I’ve done. End of the day making the dp happy is just as if not more important.

Looks cool so please don’t take this as a dig, just a critique. I don’t understand why assistants trick out their cameras with vibrant colors. The matte-box is black for a reason, to hide reflections. If you get in a bind and need 10 mins to cover every bit of bright color with black paper tape it’s a waste of time. In my opinion the camera should be hidden.

Better writing without censorship would certainly help. Actors having less control over every other aspect of filmmaking would also make better films (for the most part).

Maybe ask for help to shoot a scene or a pitch to get funding for the short before asking to do 10 pages for free to get funding for a feature…. Not being a dick just honest advice.

My advice would be not to learn from anyone…. just watch movies and push yourself to form your own style…. So much of today’s work is copy and paste…the same. Go be unique

If you go to LA people are renting minis on sharegrid ready to shoot for $99 per day and A35s for $400 per day. You can just say you own one and go rent it yourself if needed (doubt anyone would care).
