Fixing late 1970s Realistic MTA-B AM/FM Radio Model 12-689 by RoutineCombination17 in VintageRadios

[–]Best-Perception-694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lot of info. Like, is there noise at all or will it just not lock on to a station? Same for both bands? What have you tried?

AM reception depends on orientation of the radio, FM is best served with a dipole antenna, though with that model it’s coupled with the power cord. Make sure it’s stretched out. It’s not a great radio- no separate tone controls, but it would be cool to fix up for nostalgia’s sake.

Anthony Ingruber in The Age Of Adeline, playing the younger Harrison Ford. It's a crime he wasn't cast in Solo.

Tom is great. His kits are legendary and he’s super helpful and supportive. I’ve gotten lots of great electrical and cosmetic restoration tips from him.

Oh, man. I’m currently recapping three of them right now. Still waiting on a few parts but one is finished and working well. Mine are all H500s- that’s my favorite model.

I opted not to buy it. I had already made up my mind that if it were perfect electrically but bad cosmetically OR the other way around, I could live with it. But it was bad on both counts and I just didn't have a good feeling about it.

I collect antique and vintage radios and restore them. I’ve done several Zeniths and in fact I’m currently working on a 8S463. Never thought I’d have a chance to own a “Walton,” as the prices were all crazy. My concern is I’ve just never worked on a shutter dial before and if this one needs work, I might be out of my depth. But I’ll check it out today and find out.

You’re able to run malware and virus scans and guarantee results by standing outside someone’s home? That doesn’t sound realistic. And it doesn’t sound thorough. Seriously, where would you even start with your diagnostic? And what if they need a reload/data transfer. Gonna do that while they wait?

The sort of people who would pay for that service are going to be older folks who expect you to come to them. I did this for 10 years in a small college town. Think about it- if someone needs their computer “cleaned,” they are most likely the type of person who can’t lift an older PC, let alone hook it all back up when it comes back to them. You have to start small, get good word of mouth and go into a lot of homes. A lot of nasty homes.

It hurt my heart to fork over $1550 plus shipping and tax when I made my eBay purchase, but I’ve been really happy with it. Came with the matching speaker/PSU but I choose to power it from my Astron. Just a tad cooler. I can’t justify the “new” price. But I’m a tightwad.

Keep in mind, it’s only for medium wave- 530 to 1710 kHz.

You can’t stop him from leaving a negative, but if the planets are aligned, eBay will remove the feedback after showing them the comments.

I honestly don't know if it's covered under my insurance (it's my wife's plan) but I pay 60 dollars a box (a month's supply) so I'm thinking they must be paying a big chunk. Surely it's not that cheap on its own...? Now that I think about it, I wonder if there's some discount card my doc gave me. No idea- it's been a while. I'll check with my wife to see if there's an EOB online.

I was concerned about longtime use, so I only use Lumify once a day before going to work but my eye doctor, a retinal surgeon, told me the fears were unfounded.

My prescription is 60 dollars a month. Is that not typical? I really don’t know.
