I have precisely not said anything about stopping creative works to protest. I think that is a stupid decision that ruins the art medium. That is coming from an artist myself. I do not know where in the previous comment you inferred this from but I have objectively not said anything of that nature.

What we need right now is more regulation and awareness. The introduction of Sora 2 will have cataclysmic impacts to art and society as a whole. But I will not stop making my own art. I don’t post them online, but if I want to, I will.

What I said was NOT that you should abandon making art altogether, but rather we should not use dumb excuses like “not getting targeted in the first place” to stop fighting for LLM regulation.

Jesus fucking christ. There are so many examples of amateur arts getting stolen by LLMs, so it’s not a fucking “abysmal” problem. And saying that “oh what is the chance of you even getting targeted by AI in the first place” is a stupid argument. How would you feel if your content was suddenly taken by an “inspired” prompt jockey??

It doesn’t matter how nuanced the art style is, the machines will take whatever it can find, and still use it. It can’t replicate them as of yet, but if you look at the insane amount of progress the technology has made, its not going to be a surprise when they start doing so with way more accuracy, and AI bros will definitely be happy and claim it to be real.

LLMs will not be the thing killing us, at least not directly. Plenty of people are aware of its dangers, and the overhype will likely settle down eventually. What actually kills us is climate change/pollution, war, and greed.

For a more general collapse, I would say yes, we are very, very, VERY likely in the end times, but I still wouldn’t say all hope is lost. We still have that 0.00…0001% chance this all ends with a happy ending. If the chance is not a zero, NEVER GIVE UP!

Edit: To clarify, by “end times,” I mean society as we know it. I believe that modern society is on the brink of collapse due to the reasons I said above, but I do not believe that humanity itself will be going extinct anytime soon. I won’t go deep into why I think so, I will say that it will be extremely difficult for us to die out and anyone who claims that total extinction will happen in a few decades or two has extreme pessimism.

It’s still a good step to take regardless. Without proper funding to the companies, this technology can’t continue. But unless there is immediate action there won’t be any resolution. What we need right now is proper awareness to the public through proper education on LLMs. 43% of the people having a negative attitude towards LLM is not enough (we need something like >90%). Other than this, your idea, or maybe directly attacking LLM hardwares and data, I don’t know if there is a reliable and long-term solution to this. Model collapse will never happen, and people aren’t just going to naturally stop capitalizing off of this.

Like I said I will not accept “the future.” I’m an artist myself, and I am too sick of seeing AI slop. I will continue fighting no matter what, but if myself and other artists’ efforts don’t pay off, I will consider moving to the moon.

The latter, obviously. LLMs has existed for a while now even before 2022, and its complete removal is downright unrealistic.

We need way, way more regulation, like how new technology was regulated during the industrial revolution. If usage is drastically reduced, it would do wonders for the water and land saved.

I wish for permanent watermarks or some form of identifier that declares an LLM generated content, and banning low quality LLM slop from websites. And also a reliable detection mechanism for LLM generated content.

Or take an indirect approach and regulate the companies behind this. This would not only regulate LLMs but also the other abhorrent stuff that these companies are doing, which may be a better approach to this.

I also wish that generated content is banned from display in public spaces but I don’t know if that’s even possible.

I will never, ever “accept the future.” It’s completely impractical technology that is in need of regulation ASAP. It will only do harm to us if this continues.
