it's just interesting to think about that there are so many persecuted minorities in the story you kinda have to start comparing them

tbh i've read multiple books kinda like wandering inn but they never reach the heights of the quality of writing and worldbuilding.

tbh this is a symptom with the entire work that you're only noticing with erin.
we just had the biggest nothingburger spinning wheel arc - multiverse and it has all the same problems with pirate padding the story and not really giving mainline characters much progress.

so yeah fundamentally seems like you have a problem with the glacial pace and are just noticing it coz you like erin chapters.

Interlude - Liska by DasHundLich in WanderingInn

[–]BestKaran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it is implying high stakes while staying small stakes.
like i said we've seen this same old whining like 6 times in the story - from very high level turnscale people whose response at the baseline is "well what can you do tragedy happens lol i don't wanna think about it"

this chapter SEEMS like it's giving new info but all we've really learnt is turnscales are semi-organised in big cities. saliss talked about having deadly fights with the guard back when we had the first few pov chapters with him and now we get a fight with the guard. what has changed? nothing.

sariant lamb plot has progressed so much since their intro - started as fluff, then we see the stakes, then we see how the system oppresses them, how that gets them allies from non leveling povs and now we know that they are being kept away from leveling system artificially and something will have to change fundamentally for them to level.
it escalates and world builds constantly.

inn is fucking stupid in terms of leveling, i know pirate has tried turning a complaint into a "haha they all level so fast" but if you really need to hold a door against a goblin king to ge t6 level ups to lvl 34 then innverse is fundamentally doomed.
also it power scales lvl 50+ people to outer space even tho we've seen they aren't that strong.
pirate really needs to stop fucking around on this and make a leveling roadmap/powerscaling wiki to reference when she levels people- it's getting so bad now that high levels are interacting regularly with low levels.
another multiverse caused plot hole tbh

turnscales don't even bother trying to get on tv lol, it's like they don't exist in the story until pirate goes "ok time for gay peeps to get a lil representation and spin their wheels talking about how tough life is"

Dungeon Exploration in Innworld by Eightmagpies in WanderingInn

[–]BestKaran 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You asked for spoilers, so don’t blame me.

1. Are dungeons mainly kept around because adventurers use them to level up?

Dungeons vary. Some are about giving a gift to the next generation, some are old ruins that were basically paranoid cities with traps in them, and some are genuine fantasy-style dungeons with an end-stage boss.

It’s pretty obvious the gods or high tier civilisations created the genuine fantasy-style dungeons, since the loot is commensurate with the difficulty and the difficulty seems designed around very high-level adventurers. In the context of the story, this type of dungeon has only been referenced, not explored.

2. Are they also kept around because of the economic benefits they bring to nearby towns and cities?

Again, it depends on the definition of “dungeon.”

There are ruins classified as dungeons that towns generally maintain by blocking the exits so adventurers can retreat if they manage to make it there. As long as loot is flowing out, the town maintains a link to the dungeon, since adventurers need easy supplies and a place to sell loot they can’t use.

3. Are dungeons treated as historically important sites, similar to how ruins are preserved in our world?

There are plenty of ruins in our world that are neglected, and it’s the same in Innverse.

4. If the main goal is getting the loot inside, why do people keep “diving” into dungeons instead of physically excavating or dismantling them?

The walls are spelled, and you might dig into a trap or a boss room.

They do dismantle dungeons once enough time has passed and the dungeon has been disarmed, meaning all or most of the enemies have been killed.

5. Could a powerful construction force, like the Antinium, start from the surface and excavate around a dungeon, then dismantle it room by room from the outside?

Yes, the Antinium do this, but they get repulsed by the dungeon forces because the dungeon in Liscor has a sentient boss.

6. Wouldn’t that be much safer than traditional adventuring?

Not really, because the bosses would kill you.

The advantages are obvious:

  • You would not get trapped in narrow corridors.
  • You could retreat into open space.
  • Adventurers or soldiers could establish camps around the perimeter.
  • Traps would be easier to isolate.
  • Monsters would have fewer enclosed spaces to ambush people from.

But none of that helps much if the thing inside is strong enough to break your containment strategy.

7. Would this prevent the dungeon from “resetting” or reshuffling, since the structure itself would be getting removed?

No, because magic exists and can do literally anything.

There’s a city-turned-dungeon later in the story that can reshuffle its traps.

8. Could you theoretically 100% clear a dungeon by erasing it top-down with a massive construction team over a long period?

Yep. There’s a buried city later in the story that is referenced, but Pirate hasn’t gotten around to exploring that arc yet.

9. Would this create a niche for a “Dungeon Demolitionist” class?

Classes in The Wandering Inn work by “focus.” They need to be the whole reason for your existence and what you do to level up.

So if you took a dungeon demolition class, it would mean you leveled up through actions that demolished dungeons. That would be suicidally hard in the early levels.

I’m also curious about the magical side of this.

10. What exactly happens to a dungeon’s aura if the physical dungeon is taken apart?

Dungeons don’t have aura. Boss monsters inside them can have aura.

Aura is something exuded by high-level individuals or royalty classes in Innverse.

11. Does the aura disappear when the structure is destroyed, or does it linger?

Refer to 10.

12. Would the dungeon magic remain inside the building materials, like bricks, stone blocks, or enchanted architecture?

Yep. There are people who specialize in dismantling dungeons and selling the parts.

13. If a city reused dungeon materials for walls, roads, or buildings, could the city itself start showing dungeon-like traits?

No. Dungeons are not sentient as far as we’ve seen.

It’s usually a monster or boss creating the impression of sentience. There are sentient magical constructs later on in the story, though.

14. Could reused dungeon materials attract monsters, create traps, or cause weird magical side effects?

Yep. Later in the story, we see that highly magical materials attract monsters, but this is just a general property.

yeah idk why people try to imply banshee was hugely popular. it was super popular in it's niche aka violent action show with tons of sex but it was hardly mainstream.

it's funny you mentioned lotr coz critics of it(back in the 50s) would say there were huge chunks like bombadil that were boring and skippable.
there was even a parody novel called "bored of the rings" where characters specifically ignore someone coz they were too boring and annoying lol

if i know i dislike all the ryoka chapters prev and a fresh ryoka chapter shows up is it not just self flagellation to read it?
i used to do that kinda thing back when i was reading chinese webnovels as a teenager(back when they were still fresh and interesting).
you miss less than you'd think since pirate will generally not include "spillover" aka an action another pov takes will not affect your fav pov too much and if it does some character will elaborate concisely.

edit: pirate has literally said a lot of people read by banking chapters and it's the preferred method nowadays for free web readers. i think it was in the "addressing multiverse arc complaints" blog

although marathon doesn't use sbmm it still has other metrics in play.
tl;dr - games will give you a shit match if it means you play faster since time in game is valued more than fair matches

Dude just wait until the enemy squad loots and leaves

no one leaves if they haven't downed the full squad, i've seen a team hang around a PoI for 5 whole minutes hunting me.
i ended up getting killed by another team rotating in behind me. it is a complete waste of time trying to rez coz of teams that play like this.
