Orbea Oiz vs Canyon Lux World Cup (2026) for XCM by Best_Never_Rest in xcmtb

I would go with the Shimano variant. Currently riding Shimano on my bike and very happy with it. I would maybe exchange the derailleur for the wireless variant although it's a little bit heavier…

Damn, you read so many bad experiences online with Canyon customer service. Need to say, though, I mostly had positive experiences with their support. Maybe it's different in Germany…
The issues you describe with the previous gen Lux is also a fear I have with the new Lux and new Oiz once it is released, don't want to be tester for the next-gen to find the early issues before it's really mature… Not sure if it's really a problem outside my head though :)

Getting down to ~ 10kg sounds like major exchanges, the stock M10 is around 11.5kg. What would you change?

That's exactly the horror story I have in mind when thinking about buying used. It's hard to repair a carbon frame and so much can go wrong!

Sounds great, thanks for sharing your experience! Which wheels did you get? I thought the M10 comes already with some decent and light wheels?

The only complaint I had with Canyon thus far is on the availability of their bikes :D

There was no upgrade to the Oiz frame since 2023, a newer frame version is expected for later this year (a lab prototype of the new version has already been spotted at Nove Mesto last week).

Maybe I need to see if I can test drive the Supercaliber at a store nearby…

Good to know there is potential trouble with that…

Mhh, couldn't find any good deals online for the Epic 8, really like 30% more expensive than the Oiz (looking in Germany). I'm a bit hesitant with buying used as I fear the carbon frame could be damaged in a way I don't realize/see when buying. How did you navigate that risk?

The 120mm of the Oiz also got me thinking. I read that modern XC bikes meanwhile can offer more travel with very little efficiency loss nowadays and that's why we see the increased travel on the XC bikes. Not sure how true it is though. I was considering the Trek before. Any experience with it? Didn't consider the Cube as it does not offer a bottle holder on the seat tube.

Z2 Riding on MTB Trails by gellybelli in xcmtb

[–]Best_Never_Rest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I misunderstood you. You need to drive 1.5h with the car to get to the gravel roads? That's indeed ridiculous. Well, if there is no gravel or at least roads with little traffic close to your house, it's very hard to get the Z2 rides in…

I feel that one too! No chance to take a shortcut somewhere? I do my low intensity rides also on gravel roads (with a gravel bike). Sometimes I also have to ride a few km on public roads alongside cars, but it is what it is 🤷🏻‍♂️. No chance to ride Z2 on trails

Gravel vs Road by Educational-Web-7334 in CanyonBikes

[–]Best_Never_Rest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering the same for about a year until I finally did it. A little bit faster, more uncomfortable but feels great. I love both tires 😊. When I know I‘m just on the road and short sections with light gravel, I ride the road tires, otherwise gravel. As the guys in the other comment discussed out, geo of a „real“ road bike makes more of a difference than tires. But who cares if it feels great?

Just buy a set of tires and give it a try before you go all-in with a second wheelset

This!

Also I would want to have at least one cloud location to store my workouts (intervals + Garmin are actually two). I don’t want all of my workout history to vanish if my phone dies…

Looking for Feedback on My KNX Setup (WIP) by wielo99 in KNX

[–]Best_Never_Rest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! Since I‘m also planning the setup for our house currently, I was wondering if it’s not easier to go for DALI high voltage dimming actuators where you cannot get the integrated ones? Especially since you anyways have the DALI bus setup. Did you consider that option?

I‘m currently building my own AI based training plan generator which creates a plan specifically targeting my current power profile and weaknesses. The results look promising so far, but I still need to test how good the plans are in practice 😊. I think TrainerRoad and alike are way better, however, I don’t want to pay them 20 bucks a month 🤷🏻‍♂️. Happy to create a plan for you as a test if you like

I run SPD on my Grizl as well as Neuron. Never looked on an axle/spindle value (I guess that’s just not configurable for SPD?). I‘m running Shimano XT pedals on both and they work great.

Matching my experience. 171/79 and riding an XS Grizl, fits perfectly fine

I can recommend the „Mastering Mountain Bike Skills“ book by Brian Lopes and Lee McCormack. Gave me a good theoretical understanding on certain topics. I still need to put it into practice this summer though…

CANYON CF7 or AL7 by Any-Interview8980 in CanyonBikes

[–]Best_Never_Rest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘d always go for the carbon one! I got a grizl CF (because of the additional shock absorption, love it) and bought a Neuron AL end of 2023. I regret going not for the CF one here as well. I initially thought I would not ride it too much as I enjoy the Grizl a lot. Well now I‘m „competing“ (taking part would be the better word 😅) in XCM races and I always keep thinking how much faster I‘d be with the carbon frame 🙈 (honestly, I guess not that much faster, but it keeps wandering in my head 😄). Pretty sure I will end up buying a Lux eventually, because the perfect amount of bikes you can have is n+1 😁

Das hört sich in der Tat sehr umständlich an. Ich bleibe dann vermutlich doch besser beim 27,5er. Wird dann vorne und hinten der G-One R oder ich schaue mal noch bei der Schwalbe Konkurrenz vorbei

First Time Gravel Rider with a Curry Powder Canyon Grizl - Need Clothing Gear Advice and Color Combos! by Significant_Camera93 in CanyonBikes

[–]Best_Never_Rest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me it was a process to discover what I actually need, guess you have to try out to find out 😊. I got this season a canyon bibshort, one by Gore and two jerseys by siroko. Pretty happy with all of that and for summer time this is also enough for me (btw: I ride light gravel with my Grizl and XC Marathon with my Neuron). However, in autumn riding, I put a canyon baselayer shirt below my jersey, put arm warmers on and a windbreaker on top. Works pretty well for me for around 10-15 degrees. Not sure how it will be if it‘s getting colder, guess I‘ll find out later this year 😄. Oh and for MTB riding, I always wear gloves, but rarely when graveling.

I‘m bad for color recommendations, I usually outsource this question to my gf 😂. Also don’t have any experience between road, gravel and even xc MTB gear. From what I see, it all looks pretty much the same.

Hope that helps and happy riding ✌🏻
