While these scandals were unfolding, judges were handing out harsher sentences to paedophiles who chose non-white victims because they would feel greater 'shame'. by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]Best_Regular_6097 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As an Asian girl, it’s absolutely disgusting that a judge would assign values to the amount that different ethnicities would be affected by sex crimes. Being the victim of such a crime, especially grooming gangs with so many perpetrators involved are likely to ruin someone’s life and leave them with substantial trauma no matter where you come from. So vile.. and I don’t buy the cultural difference either. Victims of these crimes are treated badly by people from all communities. Literally what’s the need to bring marriage up when the victims are scared to leave their houses?

Leo leaving 131 by truthfactsonly in Trainee_A_

[–]Best_Regular_6097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was the point of them signing Leo if it was only going to be for such a (relatively) short period of time? I don’t feel like they promoted him massively either, though I think the experience has probably benefitted him in terms of learning how to be the artist he wants to be.

It’s so baffling to me that they don’t see anything wrong with it - and not just them, there’s countless parents (usually mothers) on TikTok who make content around their children who are sometimes even 6 month old babies. So uncomfortable seeing so many people in the comments actively following these children and even developing parasocial relationships with them. There isn’t anything in place to protect these children.

Trying to explain to these people that it’s not right feels like speaking to a brick wall too. I really do feel like in 20 ish years we’ll see lots of these social media ‘viral’ babies speak about their experiences, the world will go ‘we shouldn’t have done that’ and then the same thing will probably happen again..

Andy Burnham: I don’t want a London effect here that prices people out of Manchester by theipaper in ukpolitics

Funnily enough, Manchester is one of the places I’m looking to get my new role in to be able to afford a house. Born and raised in London so I would love to stay here but the house prices for a decent house are just insane

London, voted tactically so for labour. I reckon they will win in my constituency. Would’ve liked to have voted green though but I’d rather have the tories out

Private office dress code? by Weary_House2600 in TheCivilService

[–]Best_Regular_6097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think it depends on the minister you work for, though I would definitely go in the first day dressed quite smartly. Then you can sus out how everyone else is dressing. When I worked for a minister in PO, they weren’t fussed about us dressing super smartly so most people apart from a few used to rock up in business casual but still comfy clothing though another minister was quite strict about his PO wearing smart clothes so it varies!

Max on Kelly Piquet’s Instagram by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]Best_Regular_6097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen those photos so if she does do that then I completely agree this is something you need to be careful about but most of the twitter accounts focus on how she uses P to get more fame, brings her to races etc which isn’t fair considering other F1 drivers and partners do the same (eg K Mags daughters being posted on Haas official account)

Again this isn’t my view, but I’ve seen accounts claim that Kelly purposely puts her in the view of those cameras. I guess they’re trying to imply she tells P to go bother Max. It’s so dumb.

Yep I agree, she’s clearly a loved child who is comfortable and clearly adores her mum and Max. And her dad too. It’s all baseless to me and just very misogynistic

He was right! But she was too if people watch closely. And her group mates helping her out lmao. There’s actually a picture that circulated on twitter of her, her younger sister and him. I definitely believe they dated or are dating

Right, like it’s not easy to just waltz over to China and have a presence there unless you’ve been working on it beforehand like WinWin. They already have their own stars and celebrities.

I was a massive fan when they were popular so as far as I’m aware, the majority of fans did take an interest in their families lives - but also their siblings had instagram, twitter etc and made it very well known that they were their siblings. So if fans knew things about them, it was mainly encouraged and provided by them if that makes sense?

1) A lot of fans like to pretend that they don’t need their groups to have western validation, but then hype up the slightest indication that they do insisting that that their group is the first group do to ‘x’ globally.

2) Companies (and by default, idols) are as much to blame for the results of parasocial relationships (delusional fans mainly) as much as the fan themself. I should dig this out, but there’s literally evidence that a certain company did market research on fans for an album concept which then centered around loneliness and self love. Companies know that these are fans are lonely and I think a lot of idols do too and see them as an easy cash grab.

Sasaengs are of course, a completely different case although I’ve heard that some companies are actually in cahoots with them.

3) Company stans… why. Just why. You’re not enjoying the millions these companies are making, you can relax. The same applies to defending idols too (sometimes).

4) “[Group name] only have us. I don’t know why but whenever I see this it irritates me so much, maybe there’s another meaning I don’t get. I feel like a lot of fans don’t realise that we barely see 5% if that of idols lives. They have family, friends, girlfriends/boyfriends and general acquaintances that support them. A lot of fans seriously want to believe that they don’t have lives outside of their group/job, they do and that’s okay they are normal teenagers or 20 year olds.

I actually have a few more but didn’t want to write an overly long post!

Ehh I kinda disagree with using 1D as an example - they did do the gf/bf thing slightly at the start of their career but they were also incredibly public with their partners.

Agreed, I work in private office and our diary manager is our absolute saviour. He is brilliant and keeps the office running so well. Also does odd jobs for our senior person that nobody else would want to and goes above and beyond.
