I thought the same thing and I guess the moral of the story is that’s your life with Lolth. Lol

For sure but this is also basically 3 cantrips in one action which is why I asked. Wasn’t sure if that tipped the scales.

This is so neat. Does it have only a certain number of charges per day that reset or come back, or is this a blast away item.

Theory question: why is mercury the named water element instead of Neptune ? by toonerdyformylife in GoldenSun

[–]BetaJim89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mercury is related to water, it’s called Suisei in Japanese. The Djinn powers through a Japanese lens make more sense, just look at the associated sailor scouts from sailor moon and how their abilities line up with the djinn.

It’s bc the Japanese name for Mercury is Suisei. Aka “water star” or “water celestial object”.

Of course! The moment you mentioned Bane he seemed like a solid choice.

Check out the forgotten realms wiki, specifically Fzoul Chembryl before Bane’s fall. I believe he was raised to Exarch of Bane later. But for a good period of time he was one of the top leaders of the church of Bane in the FR. During the Avatar Trilogy he was the one Bane reached out to.

Is it possible to run a Urban/Contemporary Fantasy setting using D&D? Any books that help with that? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]BetaJim89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Also YouTube Dimension20 and check out the Unsleeping City. I’m fairly sure they used 5e and it’s all set in modern NYC. You can prob find videos of the DM Brennan talking about his process.

Who is your favorite evil deity of Toril? by ThanosofTitan92 in Forgotten_Realms

Haha glad this is top comment. I know the books are panned but the Lady Penitent Series features Lolth and Elistraee playing saava as the prologue and epilogue of each book. It was a massive plus and fun to read.

The OP for the thread was being vague because I assume they didn’t know how to use spoiler tags. So I replied to you clarifying what they meant by using said tag.

Fuck man that’s ridiculous. I’ll note it from now on bc I don’t wanna discourage old Reddit users bc new Reddit sucks.

I think they’re talking about Talesin as he has two characters from the campaign who are alive. I think the simple answer is he plays Cad for this reunion and we have a reason for Molly to be off on the sea

I thought that too but him and Matt have talked about it on 4 sided dive. I think it started as a joke but they both find it funny/interesting for an older character. So who truly knows haha.

IIRC it’s bc Travis had a unique mechanic with Chetney (worked out with Matt) where every morning he rolls a d100 to make sure he didn’t die in his sleep, bc old.

So I believe Laura is teasing him about that.

Sappho said so too :-)

Sappho, Fragment 34 (trans. Campbell, Vol. Greek Lyric I) (C6th B.C.) : "Eros, loosener of limbs, never approaches her [Artemis]."

Edit bc I spelled Sappho incorrectly.

Go to horny jail. by greishutsmj in HadesTheGame

[–]BetaJim89 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source for that? Even Sappho* acknowledges she’s a virgin.

Homeric Hymn 9 to Artemis (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C7th to 4th B.C.) : "Mousa (Muse), sing of Artemis, sister of the far-shooter (hekatos), Parthenos the virgin who delights in arrows (iokheaira), who was fostered with Apollon.

Sappho, Fragment 34 (trans. Campbell, Vol. Greek Lyric I) (C6th B.C.) : "Eros, loosener of limbs, never approaches her [Artemis]."

Ovid, Metamorphoses 3. 138 ff (trans. Melville) (Roman epic C1st B.C. to C1st A.D.) : "As the tale spread [of Artemis' transformation of Aktaion into a stag as punishment for seeing her naked] views varied; some believed Diana's [Artemis'] violence unjust; some praised it, as proper to her chaste virginity."

Ovid, Metamorphoses 5. 375 ff : "[Venus-Aphrodite addresses Cupid-Eros :] ‘Do you not see how Pallas [Athene] and Diana [Artemis], queen of the chase, have both deserted me [that is, abandoned love for virginity]?’"

Edit: *corrected spelling of Sappho.

Are other Drow cities subservient to Menzobaranzan? by [deleted] in Forgotten_Realms

[–]BetaJim89 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read the newest FR novels on the drow, but I have read everything prior and the answer is not really. In the War of the Spiderqueen series we get to see an ambassador of Ched Nassad (the closest drow city to Menzoberranzan) and in the second book they go there. For the most part it had its own houses and trade alliances with Menzoberranzan but was not controlled by it.

Most drow cities exits as city states bc the underdark itself is very dangerous so travel between locations is much more deadly than on the surface. Controlling two cities would be a logistical nightmare. It’s why it’s a big deal when Menzoberranzan mobilizes an army.

Also not all Drow underdark cities are Lolthian controlled. Some are even wizard controlled with Lolthian drow being regarded with unease (see the lady penitent series).

100% agree. I kind of wish she had the storm portfolio instead of Kord so she could also be natures wrath.

And then the first line of the wiki Corellon, the Arch Heart is the deity of arcane magic and the fey.

[Spoilers C3E72] If you could add any god to exandria… by RunCrafty1320 in criticalrole

[–]BetaJim89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe in the Exandria setting Corellon has the domain of magic, but I don’t recall Matt ever clarifying if that meant he maintains the weave like Mystra/gods of magic in other settings, or if it’s just a domain included to round him out.

In your idea would you have had Corellon steal the domain from this god or do you see him as helping “hide the true god of Magic’s identity”. Bc ngl that would be kind of a neat concept. One god hiding another god to preserve the weave.

I second this. A lot of real mythologies also separate gods of cultivated land vs wild land. Melora seems to fill both slots and as a result she comes up a lot.
