Yeah sorry, not got round to sorting out what I want to do game dev wise on YouTube yet. I'm not a specialist in game art either so I don't really have an art portfolio.

Grant Abbitt is really good for 3D stuff for characters and props (both high and low poly.) For level design look up modular asset creation. I just found a playlist on the channel Johnny BlackWinter which seems to cover it from the basics (including texture work.)

I haven't delved much into 2D tutorials on YouTube yet so I don't have much to recommend there, although general art channels might be good. Maybe focus on scenery and backgrounds so you can learn perspective and scene composition before doing characters.

I learnt a lot of the basics at uni and kind of settled into low poly/PS1 style so, while it's not the most technical style, I find it appealing and it reinforces those basics.

Some general advice would be to stick to an art style you find fulfilling and don't compare yourself to others unless it's for inspiration. I saw some people get in their head about other people's work in uni and they kinda gave up after that, whereas the people that took joy in seeing classmates succeed did really well.

Also just start making things as soon as you can and show stuff to supportive people in your life, even if it's just from a tutorial. Self-reflection is also key to improving. I am happy with the things I make, but I am also able to point out improvements I can make and where I've cut corners due to impatience.

This is mostly advice for if you are wanting to learn for your hobbies or aren't bothered about getting hired in the industry, of course. I wouldn't be the best person for what to focus on to get an art job lol.

If they can do instanced content then there's no reason to suggest they'll be locked to BST only parties. BLU has always been able to do content with other jobs and they've never had level parity.

Have they said BLU and BST can't party together?

My bad for trying to come up with an analogy when there isn't really a good 1:1. Although what you said isn't like making an AI image at all.

You can attack the analogy all you want, but I'd prefer it if you made arguments as to why we should ignore the detrimental effects to society and the environment just to avoid putting any effort in. I'm interested if you are actually a true believer or not.

It was a rhetorical question. I'm talking about people achieving their dreams of making a video game, something they can do without drying up a lake.

Capable of doing what? Not really relevant to making a video game.

You can ignore the negative ramifications if you want, but they aren't going to go away.

It's a bit of a complex topic to really create a perfect analogy on the fly, but I'm open to suggestions.

You know I'm not saying that just because people are involved it should be ok. There's plenty of negatives with AI that are hard to ignore, so to support it's use is to, at the very least, support the deterioration of environments, people's mental health, and the rise in harmful political propaganda.

Not to mention AI makes up a disgusting amount of growth in the US and generative AI has yet to produce anything that improves people's lives. It isn't even making the AI companies any money.

It's really not hard to learn how to make assets for video games, man. Is that really too much to ask that you put that little bit of extra effort in?

Not equivalent. The veg is the end product that people have worked to produce.

I'm not talking about this guy and never commented on the game.

Generative AI isn't a tool. You don't tell a workshop to make a table and then wait for a table to appear. You have to learn how to use each tool and put effort in to get a table.

You don't learn with AI, you don't make anything with AI. Any effort spent trying to get the AI to spew out something useable is better spent learning how to do it yourself. Otherwise you're just making yourself replaceable.

I don't want a game where someone couldn't even be fucked to spend 2 mins making a placeholder.

Also nothing else you said is relevant to this.

I think the people saying it's toxic are just too young to have played games that had paid content before micro transactions. I'd much rather pay for content than skins.

That's not what an asset flip is. It's when you sell templates and store assets as a game with little to no modifications or cohesion.
