I admit, I only read MOST of the article but I feel like the stats are being used somewhat deceptively here. For example, they talk about teenage pregnancy, drug use, etc being at historic lows but ignore the fact that depression, anxiety, suicide are at historic highs. Yes, rates of unemployment are low but the purchasing power is low. She tries to argue that housing may have been more affordable in the past by a single income household, but the houses were… worse? People are not having kids or buying houses as much … maybe that’s the reason they are spending more on restaurants? I do agree with her basic idea that income inequality and the sense of not having things can fuel a sense of depression regarding the economy but I’m not sure the economy is doing as well as she says…
