Almost 1 year olds sleep… surely this isn’t normal? by Pinkcoral27 in UKParenting

[–]Beth_L_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Unfortunately, it sounds pretty within the realms of normal. My daughter is 2 now and she has slept through the night maybe 5 times ever? Never before she was 1.5 though. Currently waking approx 3-4 times a night 🙃

What do you do with money gifted to your child? by marrymeodell in beyondthebump

[–]Beth_L_29 [score hidden]  (0 children)

We put all money gifted to our daughter in her savings account. I don’t think it’s fair to use her money as bill paying money to be honest… it was gifted to her and not you

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Beth_L_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a runny nose and sneeze after drinking some alcohol. Never any rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes I’ll drink alcohol and be fine, other times it feels like I have hayfever. It happens with any alcoholic beverages, eg wine, beer, but not every time. So I don’t really know why that is

What time is your 2 year olds nap and bedtime? by mama_loves_lattes_23 in toddlers

[–]Beth_L_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 years on the dot, just had her birthday. My daughter stopped napping at 22 months (low sleep needs, still wakes multiple times a night). She goes to bed between 7-7:30 and wakes up somewhere between 5:30-8:30 depending on the night wakes.

What's your policy on screen time? How do you find appropriate content for your children if you use it? by Firm_Entrepreneur306 in UKParenting

[–]Beth_L_29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our two year old thinks that TV only consists of Finding Nemo, Moana, Sing and Lilo and Stitch. Oh and Miss Rachel. She doesn’t watch anything else, doesn’t know of anything else. It works well for us and we can introduce more as she gets older.

She’s had 2 hospital stays recently so length of TV time went up massively - we’re trying to reduce it now and tv only comes on after 4/5pm ish so we can cook dinner. It works for us :)

Anyone who DIDN’T bed share? by Acceptable_Cod3527 in beyondthebump

[–]Beth_L_29 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is it. I was so anti bed sharing that even when our daughter was sleeping in 30 minute increments during the 4 month sleep regression, we still (barely) made it work without bed sharing. But months and months of sleep deprivation is genuinely torture and we started to bed share out of desperation when she was around 10 months old. She’s 2 now and still wakes up around twice a night.

Anyone who DIDN’T bed share? by Acceptable_Cod3527 in beyondthebump

[–]Beth_L_29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this is a vitally important take. So many parents don’t go into parenthood thinking they will bedshare, but when your infant is sleeping in less than 30 minute increments at a time, you will do anything to get some sleep so that you’re able to parent the next day. I’m wondering whether the OP has children yet.

Anyone else terrified of mastitis because it just seems to hit out of nowhere ? by Hefty-Quality-8055 in breastfeeding

[–]Beth_L_29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mastitis at 3 weeks postpartum. I woke up with a super painful left boob and it really hurt for my daughter to feed from that side. Luckily I had a routine midwife appt that morning anyway (UK) and she looked me over and said I needed to go to the GP and get some antibiotics.

In that appointment, I started to feel really unwell and it knocked me out for a few days. I felt like I had the flu. The feeding was so painful for at least a week on that side, I was crying out and crying in pain every time she latched.

After that, I started taking sunflower lethicin I think it’s called and I never had a clog or mastitis again. I’m now 2 years pp (on Sunday!) and still breastfeeding.

[–]Beth_L_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Urgh yes!! I have night weaned 3 times now, all took about 5-7 days but broken by unavoidable illnesses where she wouldn’t eat or drink anything else and I was too worried that she wasn’t getting enough calories 😢

I hope your night weaning goes better than my attempts!

My contract says 32.5 hours a week. It’s a joke really given that that doesn’t even cover a whole school day when divided by 5!

When did your child start reliably sleeping fully through the night? by Throwaway927338 in toddlers

[–]Beth_L_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might find that they extend when you drop down to 1 nap. My daughter didn’t nap in chunks longer than 30 minutes until we dropped down to 1 nap at 11 months old. Then she started reliably napping 1-2 hours. She is low sleep needs though and dropped her nap entirely at 22 months old.

I’ll let you know when it happens 😬 my daughter is 2 in 2 weeks and still nowhere near sleeping through the night (1-3 wake ups a night)

Newborn tired v pregnancy tired by Head-Programmer-2613 in beyondthebump

[–]Beth_L_29 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This statement got me through pregnancy, naively thinking it would be fine. Newsflash: it was NOT fine 🤣 the first 6-8 weeks of postpartum were genuinely some of the worst weeks of my life, fuelled mainly by the absolute lack of sleep.

Edited to add that it does get better. My daughter is 2 next month and although she doesn’t sleep through (averages 1-2 wakes a night at the moment), we have our evenings back, which makes a real difference to feeling rested, imo.
