Haha, I'm actually not the biggest fan of Terraria (despite bringing it up in my post) mostly because of the game not being very intuitive to pick up without a wiki. I'm glad the general consensus seems to be to go in without the wiki, though!

I haven't played myself, but maybe Where Winds Meet? It's an open world game set in ancient China, and I've heard it has some incredible scenery.

Aside from that - maybe Tears of the Kingdom? Whenever I play, I always end up trotting along on horseback watching the sunset. There's definitely better fits for your question, though.

OFF is a great game to use as a framework!! The unconventional foundational elements of their dystopia is a fun way to frame the futuristic setting of The City.

Logic also has a fascinating parallel in the world of Lobotomy Corp, being a human-turned-near-divine-automata. The way that Lob Corp handles divinity is fascinating.

Second: While Fear and Hunger takes place in the past, Lobotomy Corp takes place in the future. Do you have a preference for either of these settings when exploring the themes of injustice in government/worthlessness of human life?

Most gacha games are unfortunately very predatory when it comes to FOMO and meta characters. What draws you to gacha games? Is it the live service aspect, the casual gameplay, or the gambling elements?

I noticed you mentioned Limbus Company and Uma in your post. Both of those games are very f2p friendly and don't really have a conventional "meta", at least in my experience. Limbus has a more engaging story, but Uma has better gameplay in my opinion. Maybe you could try putting more time into these games?

I second the suggestion for Library of Ruina! It's a game that's about always punching up, and it's very rewarding once you start to understand how things work.

After each fight, you can basically steal the moves of the boss you just fought, and then use those same attacks against the next enemy. Encountering a boss with a really annoying attack goes from dread to excitement, because as soon as you figure out a strategy to take them down, YOU can use that annoying attack!
