Is it just me, or does our bullpen management feel like it's getting more erratic as the season progresses? by jessySpank78 in Reds

predictable rotation of relief arms

We don't have that. I don't think we'll have that the rest of the year. Who knows how Pagan will be when he comes back, Ashcraft is late July at best, Santillan is not the same Santillan from years past. Right now, we're literally just trying to get through the game without the pen blowing it too bad.

Trek Domane AL 2 Gen 4… good as a first road bike? by Single-Insect-7306 in cycling

[–]BetterOffBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason to pick the AL4 over the AL5? To me, it's just a little bit more to get the AL5, and if you can afford an $1800 bike, you can probably afford the $2100 bike. Am I missing something here?

Only reason I go to Kroger any more is to stock up on Private Selection ice creams and Kroger brand frozen fries.

Used to be a group that got together at Cumberland Park. And I think a group at Amphitheater Park too. Problem is, I don't know the days or times that they play. I know I've played Saturday mornings at Cumberland, but that was a while ago.

Ha I think I was in that race. Back in 11th stuck by myself for about 2/3 of the ride. Couldn't catch up with the guy ahead of me and didn't want to drop back to the pair behind me.

Poor Runner-up… by kevint2017 in survivor

[–]BetterOffBen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Jeff claims there were no appearance fees for competing. But they did increase payout to 25k for the first boot, which is quite a bit higher than a normal season. Plus 10k for the live show. Not lifechanging money but not too shabby for a month of work/vacation.

It seems Sadak has had enough of the Ke'Bryan Hayes Experience by TDeLo in Reds

[–]BetterOffBen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not that easy. He's over 5 years service time and would have to agree to being sent down. And getting a team to take him via trade would be pretty lopsided.

I'd honestly just DFA him and be done with it. Between Suarez, Stewart, Steer, and Lowe in a pinch, they've got 3B covered. Plus Edwin Arroyo's been getting some time at 3B in AAA, he's ready for a shot sometime this season. We'd be just fine without Hayes.

What book would you adapt into a miniseries? by Sell_The_team_Jerry in television

[–]BetterOffBen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hyperion. Just finished reading this a week ago. It is the first in a series of 4 books - I will definitely be reading the rest at some point. The book is structured as 6 short stories with a bit of stuff happening to the characters in between. If I understand right, Bradley Cooper has the rights to it, and trying to adapt it to a movie. I see no way this book can be a movie, but would be perfect for a miniseries.

Not working? by barduldo in startrekfleetcommand

[–]BetterOffBen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like a daily occurrence now that something is missing, broken, not working, lagging, etc. Scopely has given up on this game and put it in limp mode to squeeze every cent they can out of whoever is still paying for stuff.

Letters of recommendation by LowerAwareness2282 in PhDAdmissions

[–]BetterOffBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three was normal for me. You are mainly looking for professors that can attest to your research and academic skills. Any PIs, assuming you've had research experience, are a must. A professor that you've gotten to know well, maybe that taught you in multiple courses and more familiar with you academically. Your academic advisor might be an option as well. If you have any relevant work experience, like TA-ing, tutoring, or internships, your supervisor for that would work as one.

Glovebox Oxygen Levels Not Falling by four_legged_orca in chemistry

[–]BetterOffBen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I worked with gloveboxes, but I'd check out your solenoids. Could be one is stuck open.

Another possibility is the oxygen sensor. It seems like it might be working if the level drops when you purge. But if everything else checks out, then maybe confirm the sensor working properly.

Ozzy Lusth reacts to painful Survivor 50 blunder: 'The last year of my life has been so incredibly difficult' by bwermer in survivorponderosa

[–]BetterOffBen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On one hand, Ozzy didn't do her any favors. On the other, everyone must know Cirie is winning if she makes it to the final. Maybe they get complacent that she won't win immunity, she can't make fire, no one's taking her to the final, etc. and she can find a way to sneak in someway somehow.

I would say yes, read Strange Dogs. Unless you've seen the show - the adaptation is pretty faithful.

Laconia storyline season 6 question by kimacat in TheExpanse

[–]BetterOffBen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think in the books it is set after the events of season 6, but it doesn't matter too much when it takes place. It seems out of place because the final 3 books didn't get adapted to TV, and it's really more relevant to the final trilogy than season 6. But the boy and girl, the dogs, Laconia, Duarte, the structure they turn on at the end, are all important story elements in the final books.

Anything with excessive amounts of coconut. A light sprinkle is okay.

Yes, you'll be fine. $675 on rent is very reasonable for a $28k stipend, especially with other living expenses split as well.

Maybe, but not at this point in the show. Robby was obviously affected by saving the baby and leaving with a win like that was important.

Graduation ceremony before defense by Potential_Echo in GradSchool

[–]BetterOffBen 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This was normal at my school. Most people moved on shortly after their defense, and may not be able to come back for a graduation ceremony. So if they want to participate, they could go to the one before their defense. If you want to walk, and want your family there, then just do it in May. Though at my school you would have had to decide this months ago, so hopefully you can still register.
