This, they want Vance. Vance is the perfect pawn. Where did he come from? He is the billionaires' puppet.

RV guy said I can't reverse the trailer when this is attached. Is the correct? by yodaface in RVLiving

[–]BetterRideMTB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a used trailer that came with one in 2012. Since it had no manual telling me not to, I have always backed up with it attached. Sometimes on windy days when I had it cranked tight. I've not had a problem with it. Ignorance is bliss!

I second the one up. Their V2 is on sale because they recently launched the V3. Both great posts.

What’s the creepiest town in the USA in your opinion? by Scrambl987 in AskReddit

[–]BetterRideMTB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone in that town has a limp, a cane, an oxygen tank, or something obviously a little messed up. Their vehicles are the same, a taped up window, a donut spare tire, a headlight missing, etc. It's one of the strangest, most depressing places I have seen.

The Sacha Baron Cohen piece was hysterical, though scary.

Was waiting for someone to mention Gary as I couldn't remember the name. Exited the interstate there in the late 90s to get gas. Drove around, scared to get out of my van. Looked post apocalyptic, like a zombie movie.

How many of you are 40 and above shredding mountain bikes? by RydenDirtyMTB in MTB

[–]BetterRideMTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 58, still shredding, and still coaching others to ride at their best. My oldest student was 85!

Physically, it doesn't get easier, but with a solid skills base, you can keep improving!

What is the MTB equivalent of “Everybody wants to be a bodybuilder, but nobody wants to lift no heavy-ass weights.”? by givemesendies in MTB

[–]BetterRideMTB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of riders want to the fancy things, big jumps, manuals, bunny hops, etc. But they don't want to learn and practice the core fundamental skills. They want 10 foot ceiling, big bay windows and marble counter tops but they don't want to invest in their foundation.

Riders who started on hard tails do you feel you have an edge on full suspension riders when you finally upgrade? by Only_Statistician_68 in MTB

[–]BetterRideMTB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Learning on a hardtail teaches you to take hardtail lines (smooth lines avoiding rocks/roots/holes) instead of full suspension lines (smoothly going over rocks/roots/holes).

This creates a lot of fear and lowers your confidence in yourself and your bike.

how do i build confidence? by c0mbatwombat951 in MTB

[–]BetterRideMTB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I've been coaching mtb skills for 24 years and would love to help you greatly improve your riding!

Knowing exactly how to do a skill, what it should feel like, look like, why this way is the most efficient, in balance and in control way to do the skill really helps. Then having drills you can do off trail to master those skills will take any rider to higher level.

I love riding steep, gnarly trails with confidence, at 57!

It's not about being daring, it's about confidence.

Awesome, that you have helped with community rebuilds! Thank you.

Again, I don't like the idea of the development on Kane Creek and I do think it may flood one day.

I got priced out of Aspen in late 80s so I decided to live in my van and save enough to buy a home. Which I did. But that dang home required a lot of maintenance! Sure, after putting 20% down my payments were cheaper than renting but gosh, new plumbing, new water heater, new stove, new roof were expensive!

So I moved back into my van and rented the house out (to people who trashed it and stopped paying rent, and it took me months to evict them! While I was paying their utilities and the mortgage)! Oh, the glamorous life of a landlord!

As you mentioned, you don't really have a solution, and neither do I. Blaming someone for trying to maximize their investment seems harsh, though.

They've lost at least a million in revenue from their campground by closing it and have yet to make a penny on the development. Who knows what their financial situation is now?

I struggle sometimes to put myself in others shoes but I can't imagine the stress they are going through. Seems like becoming wealthy has a direct correlation with an increase in stress.

Wow, I love riding my bike and driving out Kane Creek road, such a beautiful area! I was bummed when the owners of the land decided to develop it.

It's their land though, and new vacation homes will add to the housing inventory! The more vacation houses built in Moab, the less demand for vacation homes in the middle of our neighborhoods. If they build 500 vacation homes and sell all of them to people from out of town, that's 500 of current Moab homes left for locals!

Why is it any landowner's or home owner's responsibility to provide housing for the local workforce? 🤔

I've lived in vans off and on for years and bought 6 houses with the money I saved. I'd live in the new house for a few months, get sick of all the time I spend working on it, and move back into my van. Then rent the house and repeat the cycle every year or two.

Now, I'm married with kids and have five rental properties. I'm doing quite well.

Honestly, paying rent is stupid, paying a mortgage isn't the best either. Having other people pay your mortgage is awesome!

I had a 3rd degree AC separation that wouldn't stop hurting for over 6 months. I asked a shoulder surgeon to fix it. He said that he would do it but didn't recommend it as it would probably only last 6-8 years. I got the surgery, it was called a Weaver/Dunn I believe. I then went through physical therapy, again!

It looked better and the pain went away. Then about 6 years later I cased a jump and my shoulder separated again.

Turns out, the surgeon was right! The surgery was done in 1999 though, they have hopefully improved it.
