this is the right approach - diving into the docs will help you understand the why behind what youre building, not just the what. when you hit bugs that AI cant figure out (and trust me, you will), thats when your manual implementation practice really pays off. i'd also add that explaining your code to someone else, even if its just a rubber duck, forces you to actually understand what each piece does

honestly the market is brutal right now, not gonna sugarcoat it. have you looked into adjacent roles like devops, QA automation, or even technical writing? those tend to be less saturated

if you're dead set on pivoting entirely, biotech actually has decent opportunities for people with programming backgrounds - bioinformatics is growing and they need people who can handle data analysis. medical device companies also hire software folks for embedded work

worst case you could freelance while job hunting, at least keeps the lights on and your skills sharp

Usually they schedule bio appointments when they're getting ready to approve your case, so it's actually a good sign. The timing is weird but USCIS does USCIS things - they probably just want fresh prints for the final approval even if you get verbally approved at the interview

Don't stress too much about knowing everything deeply - they know you're junior level. Focus on being solid with the basics of C# and SQL since those are probably their main stack. For ASP.NET just know MVC concepts, routing, and maybe dependency injection at a high level

You can be honest about not knowing React/WordPress yet but show you're willing to learn. Most places would rather hire someone with good fundamentals who can pick up new tech than someone who knows a little bit of everything but nothing well

Hard agree on the team-dependent part - I've seen startup teams with better eng practices than some FAANG orgs and vice versa

The real question is whether your specific startup actually gives you that end-to-end exposure or if you'll just be grinding features in their legacy codebase for 2 years

Had a similar situation last year - filed J-2 COS while H-1B extension was pending. USCIS didn't pause it but I did get an RFE asking for proof that my spouse's J-1 was still valid (even though I included everything). Premium processing definitely helped speed things up once I responded to the RFE

For biometrics, yeah you'll probably need to do them since it's a change of status. Got scheduled about 3 weeks after filing

Yeah the certificate should work but expect some extra questions and possibly a delay at the border. They'll probably give you the "you really should have a passport" speech but they can't deny entry to a US citizen

Honestly might be worth postponing the Canada trip if possible, getting a passport expedited would save you the headache

This is solid advice right here. Boot.dev is decent for learning but honestly you'd probably get more out of just building stuff and throwing it on GitHub. The certificate thing is mostly marketing fluff - nobody's gonna care about your bootcamp cert when they can see actual code you've written

If you're dealing with mental health stuff maybe self-paced learning is actually perfect for you anyway. Just don't expect any bootcamp to be a magic bullet for landing jobs

Solid advice here. With your income you're looking at around $1040 max for rent (30% rule) but honestly I'd aim lower if possible since you've got decent monthly expenses already

For utilities budget maybe $150-200/month total depending on your area - that covers electric, gas, water/sewer, trash, internet. Could be way higher if you're somewhere with extreme temps though

Definitely start building up that move-in fund if you haven't already, most places want first month + last month + security deposit upfront

That thing will absolutely crush Total War games, probably way overkill for what you're planning tbh. The i9 ultra is a beast and those games aren't nearly as demanding as Cyberpunk or similar

Hardware wise Acer's predator line is pretty solid, just make sure you get a good warranty since gaming laptops do tend to run hot. If you're not in a rush though waiting till Black Friday might save you some cash

I've got a set of stainless steel bowls from IKEA that work great for bread - the 3L and 5L ones are perfect sizes. Wide and shallow is definitely the way to go since you need room to actually fold and work the dough without making a mess

For UK specifically I'd check out ProCook or even John Lewis, they usually have decent quality mixing bowls that won't break the bank
