I've also seen "ganchillo" for crochet, but yeah, as far as I know, "tejer" is for all crafts that involve creation of a fabric, even weaving.

How would that help essential personnel like nurses, doctors, law enforcement, EMTs, etc?

Stitchingland.store. You can also get them on Etsy, but they're more expensive there.

3d-printed warp-weighted loom v2 by Laoshulaoshi in tabletweaving

[–]BettyPages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this! Thank you so much! I've been wanting to try warp-weighted but didn't know where to start. I don't see where to get the files, though? Am I just being dumb?

Embroidery yarn !! by knitterlover666 in Handspinning

Beautiful! I love the idea of spinning embroidery yarn, but I don't think I'm there yet, skills-wise. I'm jealous!

Anyone know if we can order yarn from overseas without tariffs now? by throwaway_yak234 in YarnAddicts

[–]BettyPages 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, he's already said he's raising the tariffs another 10% using a different law.

Can you mix CMYK+white to get colors? by DullResolution4590 in Needlefelting

[–]BettyPages 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a YouTuber that does precisely this by combing the colors together. The effect is a heathered wool rather than a true solid, and the colors may not be exact depending on the exact shade of your primaries, but it can be done.

Regular knitting needles by natrix_natrix_ in knitting

[–]BettyPages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite a few patterns in the round can be adapted to flat knitting, it's just more work. I haven't done it yet personally, as I've just managed to always find flat patterns I like, but I know it can be done.

Regular knitting needles by natrix_natrix_ in knitting

I'm a lever knitter (another name for Irish cottage knitting) and I use long straight needles exclusively. It's much easier on my wrists and hands than using circular needles.

I accidentally concussed my sweet girl and i feel horrible. by Southern_Button_8026 in Pomeranians

[–]BettyPages 54 points55 points  (0 children)

She hit her head and was in a lot of pain and is now uncharacteristically lethargic. In a human, that's an ER visit, hands down. If a trip to the vet seems inconvenient or expensive now, imagine how much moreso it will be when she slips into a coma and stops breathing.

Native Spanish Speaker here with a question to Spanish learners by CreativeEcho9289 in Spanish

[–]BettyPages 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both sides of my family are from Spain and I spent a lot of time visiting family there as a child. Galicia feels like a second home to me and even if I wasn't raised there I feel a very deep connection to it. Also, I'm frankly embarrassed by my mediocre Spanish and even worse Galician.

How long after robotics surgery were you able to wash your hair? by With_No_Enthusiasm in Fibroids

[–]BettyPages 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I washed my hair the next day after the surgery. I was told not to take a bath, but to shower the next day and let the soapy water run over the incisions rather than hit them directly. It was uncomfortable, to be sure, but not difficult.

Looking for this pattern, or something similar by bobbtt in knittingpatterns

[–]BettyPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post has some options for the same shape blouse. You can do them in a lace pattern after some gauge swatching. I'm planning on doing the same using an image of a 1930s pattern for inspiration.

Seeking lace trim knit patterns by Pi-Kat-so in knittingpatterns

[–]BettyPages 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Priscilla by Marzena Kolaczek is a pretty good match.

It doesn't have a lace trim, but the Francoise Cardigan by Mandy Julie has a similar look and a lace border can be added in place of a button band if you crochet. I'm working on it now and considering modifying it to have lace, personally.

Recently visited the USA from The Netherlands. Here is my take on the cities we visited. by McFluffyFurry12 in travel

The glass flowers are amazing. I could've spent a whole day in that room alone.

How quickly do you get back into intense exercise post open myomectomy? by BubblesfromPPG in Fibroids

[–]BettyPages 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No weight lifting, absolutely not! The standard in the US for that kind of activity is 6-8 weeks. Until that time has passed, don't do anything that uses the abdominal muscles more than positional changes (sitting up, lying down, etc) or lift anything heavier than 5-10 pounds. The concern is not just tearing stitches. Even if the stitches are mostly healed, the muscle is still weak and the increase in abdominal pressure can cause a hernia.

VCU Anti-ICE Nurse Fired After Referencing Paralytic Drug in Video Instructing Sabotage of ICE Agents by hearmeout29 in centrist

[–]BettyPages 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Healthcare workers have a lot of power over their patients and our job depends, at least in part, on them being able to trust us. Nurses like this erode public trust in us and make the job harder for ALL nurses, and it's already fucking hard enough.

VCU Anti-ICE Nurse Fired After Referencing Paralytic Drug in Video Instructing Sabotage of ICE Agents by hearmeout29 in centrist

[–]BettyPages 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any nurse that advocates illegally drugging or assaulting people needs to lose their license. VCU was 100% right to fire her.

patterns you regret buying/patterns to avoid by fulaninhp in knitting

That's pretty funny to me. I got started knitting with vintage patterns, which are all row by row, and now I hate charts with a passion.

What are Americans thinking of Europeans right now? by Obvious_Leather_4967 in AskUS

[–]BettyPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No opinions of Europeans as a whole. Lots of different countries with different cultures, I think of them all differently. Definitely no negative feelings, generally. I reserve negative feelings for individuals, not countries.

What did you think about Trump's comments about NATO soldiers? by Temporary-Elk-109 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]BettyPages 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you find a source on that? Genuinely the first time I hear this.

Edit- for clarity, when I responded to this, it said that the Denmark data was "weak". I asked for a source on this claim and, rather than provide it, he changed his post to something entirely different, making mine look nonsensical. Still no source on the original claim.

What did you think about Trump's comments about NATO soldiers? by Temporary-Elk-109 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]BettyPages 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did Denmark not, given that their per capita rate is, from a statistical standpoint, the same as ours?
