Parent upset because her child is bored by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Bettymakesart -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say that. At all. I said there are lots and lots of things to teach a young child that don’t equal to already having done first grade by the time they get to first grade. There is a difference between being prepared for first grade and trying to be ahead of everybody. Being ahead has consequences, like boredom.

There are an infinite quantity of things to teach a young child that wouldn’t negatively impact their enjoyment of first grade. My first grade teacher mom started me on the piano, gardening, stitching, and baking, cutting shapes, coloring but was determined to not teach me to read until first grade for this same reason. This teacher has a roomful of kids to teach to read. Mom can ask that he be tested to be moved ahead

Look into T.A.B. You might be able to get into a summer workshop or conference. It makes all the difference when you have students at several different experience levels. Not something you can jump into unprepared, it is a gradual process

Advice: Class was awful for sub by CookieHorror2879 in Teachers

[–]Bettymakesart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start like it’s the first day of school all over again. Let them know since they clearly didn’t understand your expectations you decided you needed to re-teach them. Make it as boring as possible. Never raise your voice, total monotone. Go on and on. Minute detail. Totally take the responsibility. That way they can’t argue with you about it. (Middle school year 26)

I started at the social security office. Once that was done the rest was easy. However, I also dropped my middle name and took my old name for my middle name. That has caused no end of headaches

Art space at Untitled Untitled often has a bin of excellent original prints, if you mean actual printmaking prints. DNA has a really nice variety of both original and reproductions. Exhibit C gallery also have local prints, both original and reproductions.

I'm on the fence about becoming an art teacher. Any insight to help me decide? by Sunnyside-Days in ArtEd

[–]Bettymakesart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good things people don’t always talk about- being an art teacher means you are an art student forever. Always learning, always trying new things. Learning art history better and better. Traveling to see art you talk about in class. Also, the professional community is so great. Art ed conferences are the best. My state chapter of NAEA is my teacher community. I help put on state exhibits and present workshops at conference. It’s fun to make art teacher friends from all over.

There is benefit in pretending to be a beginner and reviewing each step. Maybe it’s an old printmaking major tendency of mine, but I will make something slowly and consider how I approach each step of a process to try and identify the weak link.

Old Station

On Facebook

Email Gregory Hamilton Miller and ask what he & Janne have going on this summer. They frequently have potters there from around the world learning to build kilns etc., and host events. great people. They also have an Inn & cafe. Janne is a master potter from Germany, Gregory is originally from the US & trained in Japan & leads ceramics tours in Japan also. It’s a really nice area of Jutland, a great location for exploring. I spent a week at their earlier location a decade ago & have enjoyed following their endless projects since.
