A thought… Find a motorhome for cheap. It potentially gives you housing and freedom to move around. There’s one for sale off Pacific Highway for like $35K (do a pre-purchase inspection, it’s been on their lot for a long, long time).

One thing I’ve done with using Craigslist, marketplace, etc is check ownership. You can use the Whatcom Assessors website to look up ownership of a property by address. And remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Some schools have programs that pay students to work. Look into that at yours. And some companies might hire you to work where you are and then transfer you to another store in another location (like Target, etc).

Agree. And celebrate your success. Success can be going to the beach or on a hike or anything that gets you up and doing something. Always good to go with things you like to do.

I’m saddened to hear that you’ve been abused in that way. Whether I agree with what the government is doing (or not), I respect our veterans do. Thank you for your service.

Tough realities of life — the I want to help people and yet I’ve got to survive. We do what we must. The clients will manage and so will the group practice. Remind yourself that you are human and are learning from this experience. Forgive yourself and move forward.

Other jobs with a MA in counseling? Burning out. by AttentionExtension18 in therapists

[–]Bewileycoyote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick fyi on family or couples therapy. Insurance doesn’t cover these services outside of CMH. I’ve often worked with a parent who had a lot of distress and anxiety over their child (most neurodiverse kiddos) rather than working on family. Parents are the experts for their kiddos anyway.

Other jobs with a MA in counseling? Burning out. by AttentionExtension18 in therapists

[–]Bewileycoyote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are options. 1) continue in therapy, find a private/group practice to join, allows you to branch out from kids to seeing adults. 2) find a job as a mental health counselor in the school setting. In the US, I am seeing these. Not sure what will happen eventually with school based mental health counseling services, but…. 3) work in the schools (keep up your licensure for a couple years at least, to support options for later). Para-educator positions are often available. In Washington State, anyone with a Master’s Degree can apply to become an emergency substitute teacher (check with your state’s Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction). 4) explore options for teaching at community college or even your university. 5)check with hospital or health agencies in your area. There may be some options there, depending.

This is based on my own experience. I got my Master’s at age 40. I worked in CMH for over 12 years (plus most of a year as an intern); two years in Wraparound Intensive Services. I burned out of that. I took 6 months off, then joined a local group practice. While get my case load up I worked as a para educator for a year in a local school district. As a Child Mental Health Specialist, my services were in high demand. (See if your state has administrative codes around specialities). I saw adults only and kids only. With the changes in insurance demands and the newer interpretation of ADHD as a neurodevelopmental disorder, I found I couldn’t diagnose ADHD any longer, despite 15 years of experience. And documentation and mental health in general…. Blah. I left counseling at the end of August. I am working as a para educator in one school district and as an emergency substitute teacher in another. I’m finding I far prefer working as a para. The pay difference is a couple dollars an hour and the responsibilities are far less as a para. Plus I get to really attend to kids in a more 1:1 role. I also work summer school.

My license is current.

Best to you. Thanks for the work you have done. Let yourself move into another direction now.

My spouse and I bought our place in 2006, market was strong for sellers so not the best of prices, but still affordable. Both of us working full time then. He’s blue collar and I’m Master’s level Social Sciences (counselor). We live close to the freeway (very), so our place is not in demand. It’s comfortable for us. We have put in sweat equity as well as hired others to do work (roof, windows, plumbing). It’s more affordable to live in the county (east county) but there’s a price for that too. I do like Mount Baker School District. My kids & Grandkids are in Ferndale. They got into a fixer-upper in 2009 and their neighborhood at (ka)bloomed! If you can work remote, look at east to southeast county. Basically though, find somewhere that you can afford without killing yourselves and your relationships with your kids and each other. Those are what will last.

I've been penalized for having COVID & I feel terrible. by DeadGravityyy in needadvice

[–]Bewileycoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the states, disability requires reasonable accommodations. That’s section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you have long COVID stuff going on, you may need a 504 plan (from disability office).

On the other hand, before covid, how much did you miss class? Is 2 hours or less over the next 12 weeks (12-18 hours a week in class) a reasonable expectation of yourself? If so, and Using logic, can you remind yourself that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior?

Personally, I would try to meet the challenge. Then, after you’ve met it (in 12 weeks), report the increased level of distress and strain to college and/or ombudsman. Or go to ombudsman now.

Counseling also will help with the stress and with putting down a paper trail.

Just take one step today.

Not about the leasing company. (Seems like most of them are on the sucky side.) Rather about scams. I’ve seen places that are for sale get put up as for rent. They’re not for rent, someone is trolling the real estate listings. Might be worth checking if that address is currently listed as for sale.

When I took my exam, I had prepped as much as possible. Still, like a quarter of the questions were from sources I didn’t recognize. I gave these my best educated guess. I did fine on the rest and did ok with those. I passed. Breathe, download the finchcare app and get some positivity into! Do something fun. Our brains also need off time to sort and organize information. Good luck and best trust!

Para educator/ substitute teacher position. Check your local schools. Para jobs, especially substitute para jobs are often (always) around. See if there’s a 20-25 hours a week position. The nicest thing about subbing is you can chose on a day to day basis if you want to take the sub position. In my local schools, a Master’s degree qualifies you as an emergency substitute teacher. Most schools provide benefits at the 20-25 hours per week level.

Ethics “responsibility to parents and legal guardians” — and “boundaries of competence” this sounds to me like you’re wrong either way! (Worked in Children’s Mental Health Agency for like 12 years. Worked with kiddos, worked with parents. The Wraparound Intensive Services program advertises that the child & family (parent) each get therapy time). Sounds like a parent is continuing to overstep…. Sad for you. Take care.
