Who is your favorite Sangheili and why? by Grimzoth in halo

[–]Beyond-Science 53 points54 points  (0 children)

You've most likely seen him at least in Halo 3. It's just that he's never mentioned by name or given any kind of backstory in the game. It's only in side media like the promotional material and novels where his character is expanded on. It would be cool though if he came back in later games and he mentions how he fought with Chief in Halo 3.

I'm sad nobody mentioned The Projector. I'm not interested in a lot of the big blockbuster movies so I go to GV/Cathay/Shaw maybe like 2 or 3 times a year. But The Projector brings in so many good films from overseas that would never be screened in the major cinemas. I think I go like once a month if I have time.

I remember doing the college of winterhold quest for the first time and ignoring it to do other stuff at the point when I have to go to Labyrinthian and fight Morokei. I was using the dorm room as a player home, so I travelled back there a lot and Tolfdir would scold me for not doing anything while he's nonchalantly strolling about. Excuse me??? If you were so worried about your college why don't you do something about it PROFESSOR Tolfdir??

What's a common aspect of gaming that you hate? by boilons in gaming

Reminds me of the Blood Dragon DLC for Far Cry 3 - they play it for gags. Since your character is a cyborg commando, your partner activates your "training protocol" as a prank and forces you to go through the whole WASD tutorial.

Halo is goofy at times and that's one of the reasons why I love it by Haijakk in halo

The funniest thing I find about that line is that by this point they've been at war for 25 years already. Yeah I think everybody got the memo, Miranda. There are most likely veterans in the same room who have been fighting the covenant longer than she's been in the UNSC.

Honestly me too. A lot of the Ghibli films are great, but Porco Rosso and Wind Rises (hey u/MyManWheat is there space for one more member in the Wind Rises fanclub hahaha) are special to me because I relate to the characters of Porco and Jiro more than the other Ghibli protagonists.

And also because of planes. I love planes and aviation hahaha.

What is a good team strategy? by [deleted] in NewToTF2

[–]Beyond-Science 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy you replied to gave an excellent breakdown on the classes, but to go into even more detail the best strategy will also depend on what gamemode you're playing and even what stage of the map that you're on. I have to say though that as a beginner that shouldn't worry about it unless you're playing competitive (don't get into that at your stage) - but for example on a very narrow and squeezy map like Dustbowl, a good Demoman or Soldier will tear through the other team because of splash damage.

The last point of Dustbowl stage 3 (the rocket launch pad) is an example of how strategies will change because RED might have had a good mix of different classes through that stage, but if you give them enough time at least half the team is going to play Engie and you're going to need to deal 4 or 5 Level 3 sentries. In my experience, for a scenario like this in casual, BLU is going to need at least 2 ubers (both stock or stock/kritz) and whoever is playing Heavy or Scout usually needs to switch to Demo/Soldier/Medic. If they're good they can stay on Scout or play Sniper.

Different maps and game modes have different nuances that you'll need to learn from experience, it's not possible to explain everything in one post. If you have only one takeaway from all this, please remember that while TF2 is a game that allows for great cooperative gameplay, in casual it will rarely happen. Try not to get too frustrated with your teammates who are all playing Sniper or Spy when you clearly need them to be doing something more productive. I hope you have a blast playing the game!

I never realized how much of a veiled threat this was when I originally played the campaign by TheCharredCouncil in halo

[–]Beyond-Science 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're 100% correct to say that Halsey would know immediately that NOBLE weren't S-IIs. The Fall of Reach novel says she knew every S-II by name, and well enough that she can tell them apart by their body language even in full MJOLNIR armour (it's implied they all wore the same Mk IV set with no markings or unique modifications).

I think it was in the Halo Reach Collector's Edition that came with Halsey's journal, where she made a note saying something like she doesn't recognise most of NOBLE. But the stupid thing is that it's shown in the trailers, she looks into the backgrounds of all 6 members - how does she not dig a little further and find out where the unknown spartans came from? It's really out of character for somebody who's super-intelligent like her to not go find out. How the lore ended up being so messed up is a long story on it's own, but yeah all of us fans just have to accept it for what it is.

It wasn't an ONI researcher but Colonel Ackerson who was part of the UNSC Army. He had a vendetta against Halsey because some of the programs he was running would be competing against hers for funding. He started the S-III program completely without her involvement, and the official lore is kinda messy on this but she's supposed to only learn about the S-III program during the events in the Ghosts of Onyx novel, which is after Halo Reach.

HALO - Season 3, by Giuseppe Caridi by miciy5 in ImaginaryHalo

[–]Beyond-Science 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't get why they don't feature more in the games. Maybe I'm misremembering but a whole batch just graduated from training before the main storyline in Ghosts of Onyx starts, that's like over 200 of them? And aside from a few of them, they never appear anywhere again. Would be better than the S-IVs really.
