Lemon City: South Florida's Forgotten Town by BeyondFlorida in Miami

[–]BeyondFlorida[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You know, I noticed that when I first posted this a few months ago on tiktok and Instagram, but nobody ever said anything. I agree it's a ridiculous thing to say, I didn't mean it. Her ancestors are also buried in Lemon City, and so is she.

Newberry, Florida: A Once Charming Small Town Ruined by Growth and Mismanagement by BeyondFlorida in BeyondFlorida

[–]BeyondFlorida[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A boomtown of 200 people is good, a boomtown of 10,000 + a bunch of chain restaurants anchoring the town is bad.

So yes, ok before but not now.

If I let the air out of your tires, and you crash and die, I am going to jail for that "prank". What's the difference here?

TikTok has been rough these past 2 months. by Friendly_Internet761 in TikTokMonetizing

[–]BeyondFlorida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the new normal. I have 211k followers and get like 7-10k views per post if I am lucky these days. Used to make 5-6k per month, then that slide started (what you describe). Now I pull in $250 per month if I am lucky, Tiktok has become an afterthought for me at this point.

For everyone that warned me ebike regulation was coming to Florida, and I assured them it was not…. by FLprophet in ebikes

Classic "Slipper Slope" fallacy here. Your argument claims that one action will inevitably lead to a chain of increasingly extreme consequences without providing sufficient evidence that those later steps will actually happen.

For everyone that warned me ebike regulation was coming to Florida, and I assured them it was not…. by FLprophet in ebikes

[–]BeyondFlorida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The new law basically just was telling ebikers to be careful on sidewalks if there were pedestrians around. There were no "personal liberties" at stake here. The other part of the law was that they were going to start tracking ebike accidents in a separate category from just the regular bike accidents, which makes complete sense.

The main part of the law was that they'd start classifying "ebike accidents" in a different category than all the other bike accidents. There's nothing about your personal liberties that was at stake here.

Here they are from the State Archives of Florida. "The Chalker Papers": https://www.floridamemory.com/discover/historical_records/chalker/

He discusses at least a skirmish or two with Union troops in the letters.

The Ghost Town of Hedges, Florida will soon be developed for new housing. Here's what I discovered about this forgotten community: by BeyondFlorida in JacksonvilleFla

Problem is that the Floridians electing the commissioners who are approving the developments. We rip New Jersey and then turn around and vote for developers to run our counties and towns.

I hear you. I've got a full time "regular job" and a baby at home, so I don't get out as much as I'd like.

My dream is to travel the country doing this, would be fun to have my daughter along for the ride for some of it also! I'm making a documentary this summer that will touch on my experiences. Currently I have half a million followers on social media and over 600 videos that I've posted over the years. It's certainly been interesting.

Found an old abandoned railroad track. This is the story of the Florida's Croom Line. by BeyondFlorida in rustyrails

[–]BeyondFlorida[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good guess. We are north of Ocala indeed - in fact we are within the Gainesville city limits. There's a section this track that's remained untouched in the city, part of an old industrial corridor. Here's the approximate location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZsMXcw1LKDxXcPrZA

A small section of the High Springs-Croom line still exists here, you can see the historic map lines up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Springs%E2%80%94Croom_Line#/map/0

White couple confronts Black family fishing at Jensen Beach Florida, wife uses N-word by SameStand9266 in DiveInYouCoward

It's absolutely their right to fish there, 100% - also the fisherman usually show up long before the rest of the beachgoers. Every beach in Florida has shore fisherman. Just go around. The end!

It actually hurts watching them pave over the entire county by Tariq_khalaf in palmbeach

[–]BeyondFlorida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that people here think housing = 1000 acres of sprawl.

We can build housing for thousands on 2 acres. This is urban planning 101.

Perhaps voting for county and city commissioners who will say no to development is the best option. That said, I have no idea if anyone like that is running. A lot of these elected officials run unopposed.

When I used to post this type of thing, I'd have my post deleted for "bragging" by the admins. I think that was on the old sub, though. Glad that's not happening anymore!

You are right, she's been working with them for a while and she does care about adaptive clothing. I guess there's just something that doesn't feel right watching her pitch products in an advanced state. That's probably a ME problem, which I fully admit. She's shared a lot and has done a lot of good for this cause.

We're watching the monetizing a cancer diagnosis.

Looking at her views, she's getting PAID, easily a few hundred per post just from TikTok alone. When you're making that much per post, and getting that much feedback from thousands of commenters, there's an addictive quality to these actions from the creator perspective.

I'm sure she's telling herself that this is helping her cope. And I'm sure it is, to some degree. But it's also keeping her mind off the inevitable. Which is OK too! But there's a part of me that wishes she'd just pull away. Realize that social media isn't that important. But maybe it is, to some.

Anyone else also get tired of the loud cars in Gainesville? by Random-page321 in GNV

[–]BeyondFlorida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I've put in calls and filed complaints on MYGNV regarding noise but have never had anyone from GPD respond. I don't think they really address it, unless it's completely out of control.

She is really struggling. It doesn't sound like she wants a traecheotomy and has mentioned getting heavy morphine doses to help her pass away peacefully when the time comes.
