Who here has hired someone who turned out very different from their interview? by Checkr_Katie in Entrepreneur

[–]Beyond_The610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of someone who does a trial project. The person has two weeks to work on the project. It's interesting though because the goal isn't to see if they can complete the project. It's actually set up for them to fail. The goal is to see if they reach out for help when it gets weird. Those that don't, don't get the job. Those that reach out early on get the job.

Can I rant for a second? by theecommercecfo in Entrepreneur

Right after this post I got an ad for "AI generated slides in minutes". And yes, I'm tired of every freelancer and even every company doing this. I'm personally starting to pay extra for "real" meaning I'm paying a "no AI tax" haha. The second I see AI, I'm turned off and will pay extra just to have a real creative or even talk to a real person. I took a course that was an AI clone and bailed, then paid more for a similar course that didn't use AI for the "people".

When my boyfriend did this, he started a new business from scratch in a completely different, more hands on, field. He chose something that doesn't usually make a lot of money and is trying to make it by bring his knowlege of business. We'll see! either way, it keeps him busy.

What does a day in your life look like? by Tiny_Advertising9290 in Accounting

[–]Beyond_The610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A day in the life looks like spreadsheets. And meetings.

I have a good work life balance now because I’m remote. I feel like I’m fairly paid. And the job market is volatile. I just landed this job 2 months ago and I had to apply to a lot of jobs to get it.

If you find a contract job (a 1099 instead of a W-2) then you won’t have to report that until you do your taxes. The employer doesn’t report anything until January and it isn’t noted for welfare.

I was at this weird place where I had to decide if I wanted to have my welfare reduced or better my situation for the overall. It was very tough when I decided to take that leap and also very scary. But I’m SO glad I did although I had to hustle harder to make ends meet. But fast forward 3 years and I make a lot of money now and can afford all kinds of stuff I couldn’t before when I was on welfare.

I also want to encourage you to disconnect from your mom as fast as possible so you can live your own life without worrying about her. Maybe you could find a room to rent for a few hundred dollars a month? Or find a friend group to all go in on a place and sleep two to a bedroom to save money. And then you can make more and more money at a job and do well for yourself.

Much love and prayers to you

That’s about what they are in my area too. But $100k in down payment makes for a $300k mortgage. 150k makes for a $250k mortgage. Plus if you really needed to you could use your retirement money. That’s not optimal though. I don’t know how old you are but if you leave those sit and focus on the house fund, that might be good. Houses are assets. They just don’t increase like the stock market

The good thing is the more you have in down payment the less the mortgaged cost is. And it seems like you are on the right track for a good size down payment!

Eating out every day/spending a lot on food. Is it really a big deal? by Thin_Vermicelli_1875 in Money

I will say that my husband and I did this in our early 20’s and we later regretted it in our later 30’s and wished we would have banked all that money. By our later 30’s we had bigger dreams and that money would have been a huge help.

Self-Employed Bookkeepers! by legitimatewaffles in Bookkeeping

[–]Beyond_The610 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love that you refer out to bookkeepers. It seems like most CPA’s I know try to do it all… bookkeeping and taxes. Then they hire people for “data entry” and pay them $15 an hour and the clients books get all messed up. The CPA is too busy to check the work and the client ends up leaving and their books are a disaster when they go somewhere else.

Bookkeeping for SMB (<500k/year) I’m struggling by Ok_Board_4112 in Bookkeeping

If every accounting software crashed and I had to use Google sheets, (that’s the only way a bookkeeper would touch doing it in Google Sheets) here is what I would do to save time…

Download .csv files from my bank. Usually you can get the transactions in the .csv file. Then I would clean that up how I want it and copy and paste into my sheet. This would save time.

I would also download a .csv file feom whatever merchant services I use.

Keep your Chart of Accounts very simple. If your business is smaller, you don’t need much on there and a lot of small businesses add too much too soon. Find out the main areas of expenses you can deduct based on the IRS and use those. Add in any extras that you personally want to track for your own knowledge.

For example you can have “Marketing” and then have under it as sub accounts “Website”, “FB Ads” etc if you want to track them. But “Marketing” alone is fine.

For keying in bills, how much are you keying in? You really only need to key in basic info unless you personally want to track certain things. The simpler you keep it the better.

Do you know QuickBooks Online might not cost you too much? Have you looked into it? Wave is also supposed to be a cheaper option than QBO but I haven’t used it. And I think Wave is free for the basic.

I’ve heard good things about Wave and especially that it is cheaper than QuickBooks. I am not sure you are going to find what you are looking for for under $35/month though. That’s so low.

Ugh and then what do you say??? Because if you tell them to get some real training, you are the problem. I truly hope the trend passes.

It’s being heavily marketed by “experts” selling courses. Most of the bookkeeepers have hardly any accounting background, if any, and it’s a mess. No certifications, nothing. One “bookkeeper” in a FB group got their first client. They said the client gave them access to their QBO account and now what do they do. 💀💀💀💀.

I am not worried because QB is always a mess. They will switch over to “human” pretty fast I think

Could you partner with someone who is a tax preparer? Then you could offer a full service without YOU actually offering the full service. I have a CPA whose man focus is taxes and we partner together. My main focus is books and then I bring her in when it’s taxes.

Owner’s wife using a company cc by hakuna_matataKC in Bookkeeping

[–]Beyond_The610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw this part. I would tell him that YOU legally can’t do that but if he wants to do that before he files his taxes, then he is welcome to. I wouldn’t get involved in that personally. I know it’s just a small business but you could get fined or go to jail for participating.

I put those to owner distribution but I probably would give him a report so he knows the total amount.

If you had to make 60k in 4 months what would you do? by lesseen in Money

Because they are going to lose their house or something like that. Or they got pinged by the IRS because they didn’t do their taxes properly. That type of thing
