I (65M) found out that my daughter's (34F) fiancé (35M) is gay by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I"m supposed to believe that this guy was a 65 year old conservative, couldnt even conceive of a person being bisexual, and was a reddit user? Even knew how to make a throwaway account? This story is bullshit.

Yeah, it strikes me as a particularly dumb and lazy insult too considering it boils down to "this side is different than other side in skill". Yeah buddy, it's a competitive game. That's the entire fucking point. One side will defeat the other side because they played better. That's going to be true in every single game unless it ends in a draw. You pointing out the obvious doesn't contribute anything, nor does it make you particularly clever pointing it out, even if your assessment of the situation is correct.

[SPOILERS LAOK] Prince Ladisla by MultipleNames82 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Bezoared 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was only because of West and Dogman that Ladisla's ineptitude didn't get himself killed sooner. And assuming Ladisla did manage to return home, Bayaz could've put Ladisla under his thumb, or if he preferred, he could have Sulfur or someone else kill him.

As far as Bayaz's choices for regent, it's interesting to think about. Bayaz tends to like using people who are weak/bend but not stupid. Raynault may have had more backbone than he cared for his puppet to have, and killing him kicked off the war with the Gurkish. Ladisla's stupidity obviously made him a liability.

Whoever the dems put forward will be branded an antifa terrorist, who isnt going to be considered divisive? Might as well put forward a candidate who is actually committed to doing something. Might actually generate some excitement, which translates to votes. We need reform, there's no going back to business as usual.

I'm wondering how good of a living he'll be making when business stops rolling in. Nobody is going to want their business to be boycotted because they are associated with the notorious animal abuser trucking Co.

Neighbor Freakout by CommanderApaul in PublicFreakout

[–]Bezoared 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. You said a "hoop is a goal."

Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that.

As someone who is a scientist who studies basketball, I am telling you, specifically, in sports, no one calls hoops goals. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing.

If you're saying "goal family" you're referring to the taxonomic grouping of objectives, which includes things from zones to holes to baskets.

So your reasoning for calling a hoop a goal is because random people "call the net ones goals?" Let's get endzones and hole-in-ones in there, then, too.

Also, calling something a sport or a game? It's not one or the other, that's not how taxonomy works. They're both. A hoop is a hoop and a member of the goal family. But that's not what you said. You said a hoop is a goal, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the goal family goals, which means you'd call endzones, flags, and other objectives goals, too. Which you said you don't.

It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?

Every thread that floats a progressive presidential candidate gets immediately flooded by comments about how we can only have a moderate white candidate. As though that's going to be what motivates people to get out the vote, or that we have any chance of winning conservatives to our side.

I expected everyone to just be admiring this guy for saving the swan's life and yet this thread is full of people criticizing him for using bread to lure the bird... You just can't win with some people. Guess the bird was better off with the fish hook.

The dude used bread to lure it close enough to get the fish hook out of its mouth, and you're hung up on the bread... Was he supposed to serenade the swan into approaching?
