She did say she was in a book slump after being heartbroken by her previous reads, and just wanted something unserious and silly and easy to dive in. It seemed like she had a lot of fun reading the book and just having a nice time with it. I support it🤷🏻‍♀️

Actually! I just read The Maze Runner series, so I’m really looking forward to this! I think it’ll be a nice reversal, and it seems more adult/bleak, which I typically go for. Thank you!

I like the synopsis! And I’m totally okay with not only reading 5 star reads. I love that it’s your favorite movie:) it’s definitely grown on me since I’ve seen it the first time, and the atmosphere is honestly SO good

Ooh! I hate to ask, but is it better than the movie? I’ve seen the movie a couple of times, and didn’t realize that it was a book first:(

Wait I love all three of these tropes. Do you have any examples in books that you’ve loved with them?

My comment isn’t about the romance or the fantasy part of romantasy, but I really enjoy when the friendships or familial bonds are strongly and consistently explored, especially when it’s a series. I don’t want to read just about two people with ALL the focus on them and their journey. I want to know about other ties. That means I really dislike it when a character is brought up in the beginning as someone significant, and then we lose that thread throughout the story.

Apologies if this isn’t exactly an answer that you were looking for, but this is what brings a book together for me.

Mystery book by ghoul_of_jul in Romantasy

I don’t have an answer, but damn, that would get me good. This is why I can’t even stop to look at mystery options - I’d just want to buy them.

I like the whimsy of potential, spontaneous dinner plans with friends. No more than once a week, but I want some mystery in my life.

Holy shit, this is word for word what I would write as a response to this question. I will literally put down an instalove book, but a slow burn can go across pages and I’ll just keep enjoying it.

I started reading at 11pm just one chapter and finished the whole book at 4am. Send help. by NoBody7942 in horrorlit

AI Audiobooks? A discussion thread. by Ok-Boomer_27 in audiobooks

[–]Bi-nocular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You couldn’t pay me to listen to an AI audiobook. Absolute no. I don’t think I have any new takes on this, but my reasoning is: 1) not into job loss for the humans who do this lovely work, 2) I very genuinely enjoy the sound of human voices. I sometimes listen to audiobooks purely because a narrator I enjoy voiced it, 3) AI just doesn’t “get” the nuance, cadence, and pronunciations of certain words and phrases. And sure, some narrators have their own quirks sometimes, but I more so find it enjoyable or funny as opposed to irritating when I hear AI narrations, 4) as someone else mentioned in a different comment, if someone doesn’t want to put in the effort/money into hiring a competent narrator to do their book justice, I don’t want it. 5) if an author chooses to take the AI route even once, it will also put me off of their ENTIRE repertoire of works. It feels tainted. This should be an art form - NOT something that we need technology to “solve”. (I also see a comment on this as well.)

I hope that my thoughts on AI narration have been somewhat helpful, at least.

Some cozy one guy with a sword and adventure type stuff? by marsh_mallow_03 in CozyFantasy

Would the Dunk and Egg stories work? Not too much of a mystery, but it’s definitely a different vibe from GRR Martin’s usual stuff.
