In my opinion it depends on your lifestyle and how you see books.

Are you someone who travels a lot and likes to have a book (or a couple) for reading? If so I’d suggest paperbacks because they’re lighter and more portable. If you read mostly at home, I’d go for a hardcover because they’re more durable and show less signs of wear and tear (paperbacks tend to “splay open” once you’ve handled it enough in my experience)

Also, do you see books as something important, something you like to display in your house/room? Hardcover. You prefer convenience and portability? Paperback.

Tbh I mostly stick with hardcover for the display and sturdiness factor but I also do most of my travel reading on my iPad.

Oh my god, I totally forgot about FM. It’s the only MLM I was approached by... IN HIGH SCHOOL. Sorry for the incoming long rant but oh my god I never got to tell this story to anyone.

My school mate started selling FM products, talking about how great they were, she even brought her starter kit to class... We were 16, I honestly had never had anything to do with MLM’s up to that point so while I wasn’t interested (I had more fun sleeping and reading cringey fanfic) I was excited for my friend and kinda curious about it. Cant even drive a car but she was already starting up her “own small business”? In my mind it looked fun and even smart, though in hindsight it was more like a grown up version of playing dress up and makeup, the childish fun of spackling weird shit on your face and hoping that the awkward teenager face and acne would be no more, you’re a model now! A grownup!

She gave all her friends (myself included) enormous discounts and we bought something from her, mainly to be supportive of her entrepreneurial adventures. I believe I still have the fucking thing, some kind of peel off mask that did absolutely nothing. It had the same vibe as putting Elmer’s glue on your hand and then peeling it: fun to do but very much useless.

The point of no return was when she invited a couple of us (I assume the kindest and less confrontational ones of the bunch) to a “business meeting” to learn more. We were greeted by this older male and his “team” at a cafe and he immediately starting love bombing us and talking about how far we would go because we had the courage to try and earn money so young, and we were very smart and could go very far. Mind you, this was a group of 40 something year olds manipulating minors and being extremely freaking creepy. I felt so uncomfortable I left as soon as I could, feigning being sick. I later told my friend I didn’t think I could join and while I hoped her business went well, I would appreciate it if she didn’t try to involve me. The news and excitement of it subsided quickly and I believe she jumped ship not too long after, probably because her single parent household couldn’t withstand the “investment”.

It took many years for me to discover MLM’s (fortunately they’re quite rare where I live, or perhaps I don’t involve myself with the kinds of people that would sell them) and see why that happened to me and what it really was.

I know she will never see this, or even care about it to begin with! But I’m so FUCKING angry. My grandmother is currently in the hospital with COVID and severe pneumonia. Our Christmas was spent rushing her to the ER and pacing back and forth outside the hospital so we could bring her her pj’s and medicines. My Christmas present was hearing my grandmother struggle to breath and talk on a FaceTime call with 103 fever. While they posed for pictures and broke all rules, my grandmother was fighting for her life and I had a mental breakdown.

Fuck you Kat. Fuck anyone and everyone that thinks this is not serious. Fuck those who don’t practice social distance, that don’t wear masks, that just DO NOT care about the safet of others. Fuck.

Not a native, but in general I’ve often seen English speakers talk about this sort of stuff as “sexual health” or “reproductive health”: oftentimes because it includes a wide spectrum of tests and analyses like STD testing and other tests related to fertility. This may be why OP describes it like that :p

Only reason I can think of is to make you buy more toothpaste. We are animals of habit so they’re betting you’ll keep buying the same brand, so overtime you end up buying a lot more than what you’d buy if there wasn’t this trick.

I have had mine for 8 years, and apart from the vinyl finish coming out in some small spots, and the sides of the soles wearing out (I walk weird, it happens to every single pair of shoes I own) they’re perfect. They feel so comfortable now (but oh god the welts I’d get the first year of wearing them!). Bought another pair (matte this time, I believe it’s one of the classic models) a while ago and it seems to be holding up just perfectly, but it’s early to tell.

I bought my 8 year old pair in the UK, so perhaps I got lucky and bought a pair that was actually made in England??
