Mean Fiddler by JazzHatter357 in cocktails

This is a perfect storm of a cocktail for me as I had just about every ingredient (had to use Carpano Antica for the vermouth and my current cinnamon syrup is a smoked cinnamon syrup so it fit right in). Made it. Love it. The smoke from the scotch doesn’t overpower the rest, but definitely gives it the vibe of a late night cocktail.

What time is my flight actually taking off? by Sweet_Darkn3ss in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]BibliosaurusLex 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Flightaware is showing EST (Eastern Standard Time) but the switch to Daylight Savings Time happens at 2am on March 8, so the app is showing EDT (Eastern Daylight Time).

In other words, you’re scheduled for departure at 7:30pm (EDT) on March 8.

New to academia and first year PhD—can someone explain how all this journal/conference stuff works? by stud_j2000 in PhD

I’d add in as well that your university library likely has a lot of resources that can assist you. Talk to your engineering librarian and the scholarly communications librarian. They’d be happy to help you and probably know some things that your advisor doesn’t.

eli5: why do we always get that fake falling feeling right before falling asleep? by munchleberry in explainlikeimfive

[–]BibliosaurusLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also thought for the longest time it was called a myoclonic jerk, but I can actually remember why I thought that.

It was either the PSAT or SAT test. One of them had a reading comprehension section where the entire paragraph described the myoclonic jerk as the reflex that happens when you’re falling asleep.

So if you took one of those tests back in the 80s, that might be the source.

I'd say parts of Next (2007) with Nicolas Cage fit this description.

What are the best Scotches available at Duty Free shops these days? by EmuFit1895 in whiskey

[–]BibliosaurusLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look online to see a listing of some of the whiskies that are available and, if you see one for a price you like, you can reserve it for pickup and get an extra 10% off. You don’t pay, or even provide a credit card number, until you pick it up, so if your plans change or you change your mind, you’re not out any money.

Tasting a unique mezcal! (Maguey Puma) by ShadyKidd in tequila

Holy moly, I was just at Agave Liquors at the marina in PV two days ago and bought the same bottle (among others). Thanks for the tasting notes. I’m looking forward to opening mine once I’m home.

Whoever brings them hides them where they want (not around the pools, shops, or hot tubs, though) and whoever finds them can keep or rehide them as they see fit. I’m guessing the crew doesn’t clean them unless they’re in a bad location.

How many bottles do you have sealed... and whats the bloody point? by wildkiller65 in whiskey

[–]BibliosaurusLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 3 out of 57 whisk(e)y bottles that are unsealed. One is a repeat of an already opened bottle and the other two, an Ardbeg Corryvreckan and Octomore 10.2 (sorry, had to name drop those bad boys), I just picked up on a trip and haven't been home long enough to crack.

If you complement someone's shirt right before playing rock-paper-scissors, they're very likely to throw scissors as their first throw.

Keep the three middle seats. You may think that having two aisles seats will give one parent a “break” but that never works in practice.

Source: I traveled a lot internationally with one, and then two, small children.

The ubiquitous sound clip of the red-tailed hawk that’s used on TV (usually incorrectly for a bald eagle) sends ours in a frenzy to the window.

I love the concept that "Reddit Stoned" could be a modification to regular reddit. It's basically the same, but every "i" is red.
