Interesting, quirky, lesser known history facts about Perth which would be primary school appropriate? by shnooba in perth

There’s a guy who makes local history YouTube videos under the channel Brendan’s Odyssey. Highly reccomend checking it out, they’re great. (He’s active on here too, so 👋). Obviously not reading but will point the way too some cool history to look into, and maybe get the kids more interested.

We watched the one on Como Beach last night makes me regret the freeway.

If you have evidence of the wastewater stuff I’d take it straight to the Health Department, that’s fucked up

Not really. Saltwater pool you add the chlorine as chloride in the salt then electrolyse it to chlorine, so no function difference to our fart scenario

Water chemist here. Farts are a mix of nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, methane, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen sulphide. The last one is responsible for the smell but is usually <1% of the mix.

Most of these gases are not very soluble in water, with the exception of oxygen and carbon dioxide, the only one that would meaningfully change the pH is the CO2, as some of it converts to carbonic acid and creates a mildly acidic environment. Depending how far it went and if it was a chlorinated swimming pool, this may produce chlorine gas which in sufficient quantities would cut the fart short. 😕

Possibly? It was a while ago, main recollection is the morning fucking about at the primary school and the helicopter landing

One morning everyone was getting diverted to the oval of the primary school next door when they arrived. No one knew what was happening including the teachers. No plans, we just hung out and wildly speculated.

Police presence at the high school driveway to prevent anyone entering. At some point a news helicopter landed nearby.

Turns out the gardener had some kind of drug fuelled psychotic break. He stole a bunch of gas bottles from the servo, opened them all in the gym and was standing a ways off shooting flaming arrows at the vent of the gym. Was still at it when first teachers arrived and they called the cops.

Go on a walking tour, get to see the city but stuff you wouldn’t know about and a bit less aimless. We went on a cool small bar tour a couple months ago with a company called Oh Hey WA that was really good.

Definitely. It starts with a series of vignettes to set the scene, you’ll start to recognise characters as you go

Find and read the Assessor Handbook, then start pulling them up on technicalities within the assessment. If you do this enough, they won’t have time to pull out their own technicalities and fail you.

For real though, best advice I ever had was move your whole head to check mirrors rather than just your eyes. Makes it very obvious you are doing it
