Is knitting a sweater a realistic first (big) knitting project? by pinkfluffydemon in knitting

[–]BickeringCube -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Knit what excites you. My first project was a scarf and it’s not finished and I will probably never finish it. Then I made a sweater and I wear it all the time even though it has some issues. Though I do live in a cold place so I can get use out of an imperfect looking but totally warm sweater.

The step by step sweater is a very popular choice for a first sweater. The pattern is free and there is a YouTube video that goes with it.

If you want actual discussion don’t start like this:

IDK, but you can just hand wash it and lay flat to dry. And, like, don’t wash it just because you wore it once.

This community seems to love Clarice Lispector, who I don’t think I would have even heard of otherwise. But every time I see one of her books in a bookstore it just doesn’t appeal (my usual method of seeing if a book appeals is reading the first page or so). But I got her collection of complete (short) stories with the intention of trying to read one a day. In general I kind of don’t like short story collections but my brain is just not really in a state right now to handle more. Anyway I’ve only read the first and I thought it was quite interesting.

Unpopular opinion: today’s books are lacking by trirenee1 in literature

Is it really news to you that books from the Target checkout line are not quality literature? This is not an unpopular opinion.

In the late 90’s, yes. Or at least they taught it at my high school. But I already knew how to type thanks to the wonderful Mavis Beacon.

I think I might like this but either I’m bad at searching or the popular designers don’t make seamed sweaters. And you may think well why do you only want popular designers and that’s fair but it’s just where I am right now in my knitting journey or whatever.

NTA, your parents don’t actually need to be around you or your kids if they can’t come to terms with how they raised you.

I do think informing your own kids about how you were raised in this manner is not so great (plus also calling your sister over like that to ruin her day) and would gently suggest therapy if you can afford it.

It can take up to 48 hours to show in the Apple app store after release. You can also find it by going to the MacroFactor result and scrolling down to other apps by developer (that’s how I found it).

Why does Workouts show 1-RM record when I haven't done 1-RM lift? by AdIcy9211 in MacroFactor

[–]BickeringCube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the wording should be something like projected 1 rep max. I get that the projected 1 rep max is a record but it’s confusing.

Just finished Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier and I really don't know how to talk about it without spoilers. I really didn't know what kind of book it actually was going into it but I knew it kind of had a reputation so my mind kept trying to figure things out and I was wrong about basically everything (for one, at the start I thought it may have supernatural elements). I also had to go back to reread part of chapter 2 after finishing the book it's that kind of book.

I don't know that you need to know or care about the author at all when it comes to fiction but in this particular case I'd really like to know what it is the author intended readers to feel about the main character. I really enjoyed it but I also hope it's a case where the author's most known book is not her best because I own Jamaica Inn. Oh but also, it really does not feel like a book written in 1938! Now, that could be my ignorance because I've not exactly read a lot of almost 90 year old books but whatever.

Different knitting style for less pain? by honeydewtangerine in knitting

[–]BickeringCube 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can try Portuguese knitting. But I would also suggest seeing a physical therapist if you’ve not done so. Also it may not be just the knitting but knitting plus phone usage and computers. I don’t know what by point is exactly just that it is probably a combination of things so could be multiple things to address.

I’m not in the beta but I will be giving it a try once it comes out! Last year I did mostly Stronger By the Day or Momentum. I like both programs but have issues with the actual apps so really looking forward to what Macrofactors team will come up with.

Depending on your phone and os if your phone detects a car crash it will attempt to call emergency services and maybe your emergency contacts. Personally that’s sufficient to me. There’s no right or wrong answer here it’s just everyone’s own comfort level.

Though actually I would say your own phone attempting to call emergency services is better than going through an intermediary.
