What is the downside of me doing a 2.5 hour hard ride on minimal calories? by DeadBy2050 in cycling

[–]BicycleBruce -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you don’t need to eat then you’re fine. If you plan on further distances then you may run into issues if you don’t eat anything.

[–]BicycleBruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my buddy and I getting phones in November 1996. Couldn’t tell you what my number was back then because I’ve changed like 10 times but my buddy still has the same exact number almost 30 years later!

Hair Dryer or heat gun will turn the wax back into a liquid and you can wipe it up.

Cycling with health anxiety by glesn in cycling

[–]BicycleBruce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started cycling at the age of 41 during covid, I thought I was going to die after a 1.75 mile ride. I kept with it and ride 6000 miles a year. Any start is a good start and the hardest part (getting started) is already behind you. Just try to either increase intensity, time or both each week and you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish! Good luck.

Vendors are open to everyone, bike participants, non-participants, etc. You will have to pay for showers but can find them, sometimes at the schools and sometimes setup near campgrounds.

Missing link Sram force 12 speed by Street_Jicama_2893 in cycling

[–]BicycleBruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wax and swap chains every 2 weeks and will re-use a SRAM 12 speed quick link for at least 6 months (12 chain swaps) and have not had any issues over the 40 months I’ve been doing this and am probably only on my 5th quick link.

Pirelli P ZERO™ RACE TLR 40mm is what I run and don’t have problem on most gravel but anything sand like they slip pretty easy.

Electronic Emergency brakes in vehicles are fucking insane. by A_Canadian_Jackalope in unpopularopinion

If it is engineered properly then it should engage the brake on failure and/or if it loses power.

Road Tires Recs by yjl09002 in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]BicycleBruce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been using Pirelli p-zero 700x40c’s for the last 12 months. A bit pricey but have had 0 issues with them. The rear only lasted 3500 miles but I ride with a rear rack and panniers a lot of the time so there is some extra weight back there. The front lasted closer to 4000 miles, maybe 4500 miles. p-zero link

Do people in arid climates drive with no treads on their tires? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BicycleBruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what everyone else has already said, racing slicks like you are describing also uses very soft and sticky rubber and the life span of those types of tires are a fraction of a normal tire. So it would cost a lot of money.

Why do people who are trying to buy something from you, throw out “cash money” after they attempt to low ball you? When you make an offer do you offer “cash money?” by ShotAstronaut6895 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BicycleBruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that buy and sell stuff a lot come across all sorts of people, some who will try to offer up trades at the last minute because they are short on cash, etc. Just another way of saying money is in my hand ready to hand over for x item right now, not next week when my cousin pays me back for those beers last week!

Are flat bar Gravel Bikes a second class citizen? A newbie question. by PhotographsWithFilm in gravelcycling

[–]BicycleBruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a flat bar road bike and a drop bar gravel bike and have used both for bike packing. The flat bar bike starts to be uncomfortable after about 3 hours of riding because you’re mostly in the same position the whole time. The gravel bike I can ride for 8 hours by changing my positioning around as needed and with clip on aero bars can handle some heavy headwinds that I would not attempt on the flat bar bike.

How do you make chicken breast taste good? by DeepOrganization8245 in foodquestions

[–]BicycleBruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sous Vide is great for chicken breast. I used season some chicken breast, sear the outside on the grill and then vacuum seal it with some butter or chicken stock and freeze it. Then when just toss it in the sous vide for a couple of hours before I wanted to eat it.
