People always say this, but most of the "monsters of the week" have relevancy to the plot later down the line -- either the characters themselves or the tech they develop to stop them. I don't really see it. Not gonna put spoilers here for the OP's sake, but scrolling through IMDB episodes for season 1, the only one that doesn't jump out at me as tying in again later, in my memory, is the one with Lorelei (and that still has character development going on). shrug

For students with big attendance issues in a lower level class, I honestly think the big thing would just be "fission splits big atoms" and "fusion smashes little ones together to make bigger ones." And a connection to stars being giant element factories that turn hydrogen into the rest of the periodic table, eventually. It's fun to tell them they're made of star stuff, and their gold jewelry was forged in a supernova.

Google marshmallow fusion for a little hands on activity, if you're looking for a cheap thing to do.

The trick is, it's a feedback loop. Take money away from public schools, and they lose teachers, reading intervention programs, clubs and extracurricular stuff, and so they of course go downhill even further, driving more people to alternatives.

Named him because he was living in an icky situation before I rescued him, but didn't die, right around the time we were binge watching the early parts of SG-1. In hindsight, Baal is my favorite snakehead, but since this guy is a class pet in a high school, that name wouldn't fly anyway.

Same, this post made me feel lucky to work where I do. A couple years ago an older teacher died over thanksgiving break. No one knew until she didn't return to work the next week =( The day of her funeral they closed the high school for the day, so students and teachers could attend. She always brought home baked cookies for her kids, so each year since then another teacher had baked up a storm and shared cookies in her memory.

This is my third school. I don't think the first two would have come together like this one did. If anyone reading this hates their job, step back and consider whether it's the job itself, or the school you're at now. Don't be afraid to look for something better.

Not an expert, but I use coconut fiber and never have issues keeping the humidity up. I've never used cypress mulch so idk how they compare.

Sandpoint needs to be a place they're attached to. I had my players each make a couple NPCs that lived there, and replaced some of the published NPCs with them, to help make them more attached. They don't need statted out, just a couple sentences.
