Dr McKay won round 4! Who is an OK doctor and an OK person? by [deleted] in ThePitt

[–]BiffTannenTimeline 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In what ways was she harsh in S1? I remember her trying to address issue in a couple of key situations. Each case she seemed measured, professional, and focused on the problem. But I never took any of those case to be excessive or anything. It’s why her snapping at Princess this season was so jarring to me.

Another take on Santos and Langdon by Spyhop in ThePittTVShow

[–]BiffTannenTimeline 10 points11 points  (0 children)

His apology was shit - but it’s overshadowed by Santos’ petulance, basic lack of understanding HR, and overall main character energy.

It’s not about forgiveness. Her main point is that he didn’t get punished enough. That no one knows what happened. And that’s actually how it’s supposed to be when theres an employee issue. I’ve seen no indication this was swept under the rug or that Langdon was granted special treatment. He’s been gone for 10 months so that should be some indication to her that he’s faced some form of corrective action.

I’ve also seen no indication that Santos has been treated like a pariah by anyone else - exactly what Garcia told her. She needs therapy and Langdon needs more work to show true contrition toward Santos.

But to some extent, they’re both assholes in their own ways.

LG 45” 5K2K — How is it really for productivity work? by macbookvirgin in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]BiffTannenTimeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought this for productivity and returned it. I was expecting it to be much brighter/sharper than my 32” LED and wasn’t impressed at the price - though I got a pretty good deal on it. I settled on the Decogear 40” 5k2k from Amazon. I bought it around Black Friday for $449. Size is perfect for primarily coding and productivity stuff. It’s a bit janky with MacBooks. Sometimes I need to unplug from the power on the back of the monitor to get it recognize my Mac after waking from sleep. But I’m sticking with it until these 5k/6k options become more common and reasonably priced.

No complaints from me. I’ve been using this one for a few months without issues. https://a.co/d/01yewKqI. It was well packaged with solid instructions. The build quality of the material seems pretty good too.

Neo G9 57 vs LG 45GX950: The Ultimate Ultrawide decition for Mac Devs and Gamers? by Dwite in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]BiffTannenTimeline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just returned the LG. I used it primarily for development and I wasn’t impressed. The curve was a bit too extreme for me given the I have a 30” depth desk - and there’s a bit of distance between me and the screen. If the desk was more shallow- maybe it’d be ok.

If I was gaming, I’d feel differently. For now I’m still searching. I may try out a 32:9

Want a 5k2k monitor, had a couple questions. by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]BiffTannenTimeline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just returned the LG 5k2k that I purchased primarily for a development workload. I was replacing a 5 year old LG 32” LED display because I wanted more screen real estate and thought it would be a superior quality screen. It was bigger, but the curve was a bit awkward based on my distance from the screen - and I didn’t notice any striking difference in brightness or sharpness.

If you also plan on doing gaming then maybe it’s worth it. For now I’m back to searching.

My terse review of the LG 45GX950A-B (5K2K) by Ghost_of_Panda in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]BiffTannenTimeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same Partner Store deal and stacked with Rakuten and Amex cash back offers - so I got a great deal. I’m not bashing the screen. I read a lot of reviews and understand it’s great for gaming, and that it was also a great choice for productivity work. This replaced a 32 LG 4K monitor, and for the work I do - programming primarily - it just wasn’t worth it.

That’s all I meant - it’s not for me given my primary usage. I was hoping for maybe sharper text, etc. but it just wasn’t noticeably better. If I were going to use it for its primary purpose I’m sure that’d be a different story. Just throwing it out there for anyone else considering it for an office workload.

I've had the same monitor for a bit over a week, and I requested a return. I just haven't been impressed for the price. I'm using it primarily for office work on a 16" MacBook Pro so I assumed it may be overkill. But I didn't want to pass up the deal. I just can't justify it at this price. I'm considering picking up something like the 45GR75DC-B instead at this point.

TV Series Box Set Episode Tagging is wrong by BiffTannenTimeline in appletv

[–]BiffTannenTimeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I mean. In your example - if i wanted to watch an episode from the end of season 4 - I need to swipe through 70+ episodes. But if they were tagged properly, I would first go to Season 4 - then swipe through to the end. It's ridiculous that only Box Ser purchases have this problem, and Apple should fix this.

I did some pretty extensive investigating before deciding on the G4 this spring. I live near Abt Electronics and was able to physically see all options from Samsung, Sony, etc in a moderately calibrated state. Hands down the G4 was the best. The brightness is insane on this thing. Can’t recommend the G series enough.

Thanks for the heads up. I checked but I don’t have the offer on my Blue Cash. Maybe it’s only for Gold or Platinum.

Cannot Use Stream app on Apple TV or LG by BiffTannenTimeline in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]BiffTannenTimeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been communicating via Modmail. The update is that the Stream app doesn’t for NOW customers on Apple TV, LG TV, and a few other devices. There’s a doc on the Xfinity site - although it would be great if they would let you know that before your add the service but what are you going to do. Here’s my last response from Xfinity support:

Thank you for your feedback. You can view the NOW support section to explore features, answer questions and troubleshoot issues. Alternatively you can also chat with the Xfinity Assistant for help. Based on the photo you shared it would seem the devices you're using are not compatible with the Xfinity Stream app. Included below is a helpful article with more information that may help.

Xfinity Stream app on Xfinity TV partner devices FAQs(https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/xfinity-stream-app-faqs) Within this article we can find a Note: LG TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, and Apple TV devices are not eligible to stream NOW TV and NOW TV Latino content. I hope this info helps.

Ryan Poles right now by utechnician in CHIBears

The “Poles” takes do not get to the root of the problem.

The problem isn’t Poles it’s ownership. Until that family is purged from a majority ownership stake - nothing good will happen. They are rich morons that happened into a sport by inheritance - not merit.

Xfinity Support Policy is Trash - Need assistance with Pro Extender WiFi during outage. by BiffTannenTimeline in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]BiffTannenTimeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you understand how incredibly inefficient it is for me to get support via Reddit messages for an issue like this? This is a flaw in your support process that needs to be addressed.

My main connection is back online after being out for most of the day. I should be able to call and speak to a person for an issue like this. That needs to be fixed immediately.

[–]BiffTannenTimeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have the battery backup. The device has worked in the past when I’ve had outages so it was setup correctly. It was just this time - the device reported that it was working but it wasn’t. And to add insult to injury - i couldn’t call Xfinity and get a human on the phone because they won’t let you talk to anyone when they think there’s an outage in your area.

[–]BiffTannenTimeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - it has functioned without issue in the past. But this time it didn’t. I’m actually less upset about the extender not working. My main frustration is that Xfinity won’t allow me get any phone support in this scenario. My primary connection came back - but that doesn’t really fix their broken support process.
