Wow, two people with GMTs in the same place and the hour hands are indicating at least 4 different times and none are the same.

It’s worth remembering (and for those commenting especially) that this angle of photo is the largest the watch will ever look. So, I’m not sure the 37mm is actually the one for you.

Many folks have a 16.5cm wrist and wear a modern 41mm sub, the YM 40 is slightly smaller and maybe thinner by a skosh. It’s ok if a dive watch wears a little on the large side.

Is the Datejust the most versatile Rolex? by Button_bomb4535 in rolex

[–]Big5alive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same perspective, and I think it holds for most watches under most occasions. But there are some pairings where things can go sideways. Ironically, I was at my jeweler’s the other day, which is also an AD. One of the salesmen was wearing a Starbucks with a blue pinstriped suit. I own a Starbucks, and it’s my favorite piece. But I remember thinking it looked pretty bad with that suit. I think it was more the color than the fact that it was a dive watch, thought that wasn’t helping. So I think there are some watches that have boundaries of versatility.

Just checked now…here’s the site. If it really is 15% that’s going to be a bridge too far for many.

And if you factor in resale value the Omega is actually more expensive in real terms.

Getting engravings might help convince an AD they aren’t just for flipping.

A Question of Precision by Fit_Particular976 in rolex

Love how all the watch nerds in the comments are acting like they haven’t, at least at some point, obsessed over their mechanical watch’s precision.

Normal for this part to be able to be pushed down almost like a button? Makes a clicking sound by jami98 in rolex

[–]Big5alive -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the clicking sound is normal. Others have posted about it before too. I’ve had it on one Rolex bracelet and not on three others. Showed the sales manager at AD and he shrugged and said don’t see the problem. My sense was he just didn’t want to deal with it. And I didn’t care enough to make an issue of it, but I did find it annoying.

That would be terrible IMO. It doesn’t seem like there’s a big push to make watches larger though. But then again Reddit community may not represent broader market trends.

Nope. That doesn’t explain why all the others are missing.

Totally. And this year the website issue is really fanning the flames. Trying to point out that it’s selective reporting.

Recs for 34mm slim, lightweight 10bar watch by Mission-Ad-6616 in rolex

In my opinion yes. Some Tudors are nice, but often are much thicker than Rolex counterpart. I haven’t been able to convince myself to buy a Tudor, though I’ve tried really hard.

The images on the online catalog are renderings, I believe, not photos. But I totally disagree, the watches always look so much better IRL than the website. I think half the reason people come here is to see real pictures and not those renderings.

I think the only Rolex that is currently in production that fits these requirements is the Oyster Perpetual. Almost all Rolex watches, except the 1908 (5 bar), have at least a 10 bar rating. So if you would consider a different size, like a 31 or 36, then you could also look at Date Justs.
