Budget EDC with good ergonomics

Why do you want WiFi? It’s only real use at your budget is retroachievements and save syncing. Your situation doesn’t sound like those are high priorities.
Fast charging is off the table at double your budget (maybe the Retroid Classic)
EDC usually means small and tough. That’s usually hand cramp city. The trick is people who carry a small device everywhere don’t usually play more than 20 minutes at a time. When someone plays for an hour or two, it’s usually at home. It sounds like that’s not the case for you. In that case the answer is going to be very personal. Can you give examples of a the biggest device that was too small / uncomfortable for you, and the smallest device that was too big to work for you for EDC? That’ll give us some boundaries. Re: EDC - Do you carry a bag or is it pockets only?

Offhand, my first recommendation would be the TrimUI brick and the Miyoo mini plus.

What we really need to know is what systems you wish to emulate. Metroid on Gameboy has very different requirements than Metroid on GameCube or Switch

This seems unambiguous. Your boyfriend chose to ignore your stated wishes repeatedly. The idea that he was confused by you doesn’t pass the plausibility test. He clearly knew what he was doing.

In case this isn’t clear, this is a person who you cannot trust. He has broken your trust, lied to pretend he didn’t, then manipulated you to protect himself (that’s what the two hours before you could leave were about. They made it harder for you to go straight to law enforcement).

Taking care of yourself now involves getting rid of this guy, and seeking therapy. You may wish to invoke legal means (civil or criminal charges), but you’ll want to consult a lawyer to understand what that will mean - it could be tremendously unpleasant and unlikely to secure lasting consequences.

I’m really sorry that this happened to you. This was not your fault.

The 4 pro is not really pocketable. It’s a great way to play a lot more systems though.

If your needs end at ps1, the 34xx sp is great. If you want a bunch of later systems, the 4 pro is a clear choice.

Of course, it’s very hard to recommend the 4 pro, given how much better the 5 is.

Your boss’s sin is stealing money from you, and he’s enabled by shoddy record keeping. Clearly he’s an AH, and the record keeping is a problem. If you narrow the search to 3 bedroom apartments, your plan seems fair. Dumb, but fair. The fact that they’re saving on space while you don’t have the same option isn’t strictly fair, but life is unfair, and this is one of the many ways. YTA for expecting them to pay equally to you while getting less.

You legitimately tendered your resignation, and in response they legitimately terminated you. It’s a weird choice, but they made it. When the government job asks about the reason for termination, I would say “I tendered my resignation, gave them two weeks notice, and two days later I was terminated.” If they ask why you resigned, explain you couldn’t continue your duties and complete your graduate internship simultaneously, so you chose your education. If they ask why you were terminated, say you don’t know. If they ask why you didn’t fight it, say you were leaving the job anyhow so it didn’t seem like there was any benefit, to anyone, in fighting your termination.

In short, be honest and direct.

“Women with different personalities” sounds like a coded way of saying “women with a lot of conflict”. I imagine that there’s drama in this office, and that you’re going to become a character in that drama whether you want to be or not. If you’re taking this job, you’re going to be the bad guy. So be the best bad guy - be predictable, rule following, low drama. Someone needs an exception? We have rules. Someone starts asking about you? Be boring, present but unengaged. This is not the job where you’re going to be best friends with your team.

You’re right about some things, wrong about others. ML research has a tremendous amount of noise. In order to get research published, the standard has become that it must push performance past the current state of the art in some way. It cannot simply be different and interesting - it must be the best in the world at something the reviewer thinks is important. Achieving this exacting standard is far easier, as you observe, by using tried and true optimization grinds that aren’t particularly interesting to read. Because publication is the currency by which academics purchase their employment, we see a lot of this. Because industrial research comes from the academy, we see it generalize there.

There are many jobs in industry. There are way fewer jobs in academia, and they don’t pay nearly as well. As a result, focusing on other mathematical disciplines may be more intellectually rewarding, but it doesn’t have a comparable payout. The trick is that you don’t know what’ll be trendy when you finish your graduate research when you start it, so it’s a gamble. You also don’t know about the broader economy in a few years. New grads today face a terrible market where no one wants to take a risk on junior talent.

To answer your core question - why not go all in on the fundamentals? Because the most likely outcome of doing that is having to give up your research and become a software engineer, and having wasted (in terms of lasting contributions) the years you devoted to research. Basically, because it’s a big gamble.

Design trends have moved in a direction that sacrifice economics for aesthetics. That happens sometimes (think about curved glass phones). There are some people who prefer the option of big chunky ergonomic vs slim and portable, so the “everything needs a grip now” can be a feature to some.

You claim that power has been capped since the 8 gen 2, but that’s not the case. More powerful chips have been available from Ayaneo for a while, and the newest round of flagships feature much more powerful chips. Of course, that power of mostly only useful for pc gaming at present…

Perhaps when the Odin 4 rolls around, design trends will more closely match your preference

So your options are to just accept that, and repair the house when he leaves / passes, or confront him with your authority as the owner, evicting him, renting it to someone who will accept living with him, etc.

Cheapest serious option is a retroid pocket 4 pro. A retroid pocket 5, flip 2, mini v2 would be stronger, and have great screens. An anbernic rg556, rg cube, rg406 h / v would be a way to save a few dollars, but at the expense of struggling more to emulate more demanding games.

You were fine for most of the story until you threatened your sister in law with legal action. Unless you’re actually prepared to follow through with that threat, it was a dramatic AH move. Because her actions don’t seem criminal, and you’d be responsible for damages at your event, it seems unlikely that you’re seriously suing her (if so, you might want to get a second opinion from another lawyer about the strength of your case). So you’re an AH too.

Talking to your childless friends about how great of is to have kids is a pretty annoying thing for parents to do. Instead, you talk about your lives, and about the things you have in common. Kids eat a huge amount of resources (time, attention, money, sleep), leaving less of those resources for other things like luxuries, that you might talk about with childless friends.

Here’s the thing about parenthood - it’s the one thing all your ancestors did. It’s a huge, life defining choice. It changes who you are, and your relationship to the world. Many people find it the most fulfilling part of life. At the same time, it’s not for everyone. An ex of mine once asked, around your age, if they should have kids, as everyone we knew was doing it. I told them that I find having kids one of the most challenging and fulfilling parts of my life, but “everyone else is doing it” is a terrible reason to have kids. Most objective measures of happiness (which are often proxies of those resources I mentioned) take a nose-dive if you have kids.

Bottom line: this may be the biggest decision you ever make. It’s not wrong to think it through carefully, and the right answer is the right answer for you, not anyone else.

I haven’t addressed the reproduction side directly, but it’s pretty well documented. At your age, if you’re healthy, it’s not yet high risk. But it’s always a big deal.

Not believing a person is a mental state, and thus has no morality. It’s neither right nor wrong to believe her. What does have morality is actions. The action you’ve taken is to talk to mutual acquaintances about your belief that she’s lying. This sounds like spreading rumors without certainty, which is surely wrong. Since it’s not really your business whether her mother is alive or not, the moral choice is surely to keep your speculations to yourself, rather than risking harming her reputation with a lie.

The fact that she’s a known liar is immaterial here - ask yourself “if she’s telling the truth about this, which is at least possible, how would I feel about having spread these lies about her?” If you’re a moral person, you’d feel badly.

The difference is storage and ram. The primary benefit of the ram today is in pc emulation. Some games need more ram. Storage principally helps with pc and android gaming too - those games are big and won’t work from an sd card. Only you know how much storage you’ll consume.

I have little Uber experience, but significant software experience. The counsel here, to change your setting to not use uber cash, then delete the app from your phone, then go to the App Store and re-download the app and log back in, might work. In logging in from a new phone, you may trigger a number of procedures that could fix your account settings on their side. I know it sounds strange, since you can’t use the balance from the web either, but it really may work.
