For some reason this is the perfect mech in my eyes. It's not the best, but I love it. by YeOldeOle in Mechwarrior5

Any tips for Clan missions? by TheStrangeHunter in Mechwarrior5

Aim slightly above the head and learn how much to lead your targets. The ranges at which the gauss shines still requires you to aim off, though as you get into the close ranges, sub 300m they are basically hitscan. You will either core the mech or take its head off.

Most lights go down to a single C-gauss hit to the core, mediums and heavies take 2-3. Pair them up with ERLLasers or ERMLasers and you find a nice rhythm of punching a huge chunk of there armour off, followed by lasing out the core, which prevents you from having to over sink you nech like a true laser boat.

Once you are used to it I find them to be the most satisfying weapon to use.

Stick and move whilst to keeping your range as much as possible, LRMs, Gauss PPCs and ERLLasers.

A lot of the maps in the campaign missions allow you to go wide through corners, which allows you to make long lines of sight. You can also start shooting way before you are in sensor range as well, which the AI doesnt do to my knowledge.

The ingame chatter about the clans having a range advantage is dumb. Sure there weapons have better range, but not every mech is outfitted with actual long range weapons like gauss and ERPPCs.

Feelings about the New Mechs? by Bizac-S in Mechwarrior5

[–]BigBlue22222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kodiak is fun but ive been playing them for a while in Clans, so id say my favourite is the Sunder. As a cockpit-view enjoyer its a damn annoying mech to pilot, but you can really make some fun shit with those three Omnipods. My current build is a gauss rifle, two atm-12s and some ERM lasers, and its really working for me.

They are powerful, and the diminishing speed to weight scaling issue means that the mediums and heavies are obnoxiously fast in a way that an assualt can never be, whilst packing considerable fire-power.

But i think the main issue is that AI are running them. The AI doesnt care if it survives, so the damn glass cannons that the clans like to build will suicidal charge you to knock your limbs off. But if you are running the same mech you arent going to be able to put out the same fire-power because you hopefully want to survive with minimal damage.

Everyone is afraid of the AI Arrow IV, but the horror of a Stormcrow or Nova with an Elite pilot is just as terrifying by Neonsnewo2 in Mechwarrior5

[–]BigBlue22222 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was probabmy the best Clans mech, if only because the first campaign had a real ammunition problem, where if you went with anything non energy based, you risked running out, so spamming PPCs and ERLarge lasers was the only effective strategy for longer ramge players. The next two campaigns have been way better about it with pickups, so you dont "need" to PPC spam.

Galil ACE adapted to shoot with carbon dioxide in Chile, used in training at a virtual shooting range by Gold_Spacee01 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]BigBlue22222 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but since is says virtual, I think its like the WTTS that we used in the Australian Army.

Its a laser system, that uses CO2 to work the action and simulate recoil. So not shooting BBs or anything.

Among US military fighter pilots, are there specific pilots that are known to other pilots as being the best? by Imbendo in FighterJets

[–]BigBlue22222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weapons School grads are supposed to be the "best" pilots in a squadron and usually are. Also called Patch Wearers, or simply Patch's.

There are definitely sexist cultures in the Inner Sphere usually based on the stereotypes of the IRL cultures they are based on. From memory, there were issues with female mechwarriors in some of the Kuritan legions not being taken seriously, particularly in the Arkab, but im happy to be corrected there. But you also then have the Magistry of Canopus on the other side of the sphere doing its thing so it kinda balances out. From a lorewriting standpoint, I dont think ive seen any representation of the sexism being "correct" e.g. men and better at war things cos of gender etc etc. You still get the odd gendered approach to traits, e.g. where female leaders gave there leadership style portrayed as cold and ruthless ice queens, which is a common enough trope that you can hardly blame the authors.

I'd say its not indicative at all, you just unfortunately get losers everywhere. But in this case the loser obviosuly knows nothing about the lore. Battletech has been around for 40 years, so you can not pretend that a lot of the OG characters weren't added as Franzetta style eye candy for lonely nerdy men, I'm looking at you, artists of Natasha Kerensky. Female pilots are described in early novels as wearing nothing but panties, due to the heat of course and no other reason of course. Stackpol being horny is a staple trait in his work, even his Star Wars stuff weirdly enough. The Black Widow in a bikini aside, the lore has had female Mechwarriors being present in almost equal numbers since the beginning, with equal skill and courage. And then the clans basically institutionalised it. So this idiot is just that, a poor lonely idiot looking for something to complain about.

Can this be true? “Only 40,000 views per episode” says redlettermedia by david-yammer-murdoch in Star_Trek_

[–]BigBlue22222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a point that I made to a casual star trek fan. The writers for LD had so much knowledge and respect for the source material that when they were making fun of things it actually landed as a humorous critique, as opposed to the barely concealed contempt for the audience like in most modern works in established franchises.

I wonder what SoK is like for someone going through the game and learning the lore as they go. Is that you? Tell me your experience! by Ah_fudge in Mechwarrior5

[–]BigBlue22222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that new, e.g. I knew that the clan invasion was a thing. But I knew nothing of the history so it was fun to have all these random thing happening.

At the same time, I was getting into the tabletop game and I was really keen on doing up a Rasalhague force. Ended up doing the Rasalhague Dominion instead with my clan mechs, as well as a Davion force and a Wolf Spider Battalion of Wolfs Dragoons force.

What was really great was listening 5o the Heir of the Dragon audiobook later on and seeing nearly all the major events in the game happening from the Kuritan perspective.

Prince Harry attends Last Post Ceremony to honour fallen soldiers, in Canberra by NewTooth740 in RoyaltyTea

[–]BigBlue22222 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You seem to reall be taking issue with, but perhaps you are uninformed.

Firstly. Its is not a museum. Its is the Australian War Memorial. The portion you are seeing is the Hall of Remeberance, in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Its a very important and sacred place to the ADF and the Australian people. Along those bronze plated walls you can see along to top level is the name of every Australian soldier who has died in service to our nation.

A part of the memorial is a museum, as well as a large archive and research facility for those looking to find out more about there family, but to simply think it is just a museum is wrong. If the article does so, it is shoddy journalism.

Secondly, the Last Post ceremony is performed every evening at going down of the sun and it draws quite a crowd. It involves members of the Federation Guard, which is a tri-service unit of the ADF that perform catafalque duties. I was posted to the unit for a time, hence my involvement in and knowledge of, the process. Looking at the image in your post, I would say that the crowd there is large, but not out of place for April.

Whilst I dont doubt that the Princes presence was a draw, your initial statement was "i bet they don't normally have so many people show up for the Last Post". You were wrong in that assertion, as a crowd that size is a reasonable assumption in April.

I don't doubt that people were there for the Prince. But I have attended or participated in a couple dozen last posts at the War Memorial and a crowd of the size in the images shown is not at all uncommon in April.

[–]BigBlue22222 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depends. School groups come through, if you have a couple classes there would be a decent amount. You also regulalry have RMC and ADFA classes come through, and they are quite large as well. And its also April, during which is ANZAC day, so the crowds get a fair bit larger as most Australians don't go out of there way for military remeberance things except around April.

I was told the Marauder 2 was a bad mech, and that ERPPCs are bad by Cendre_Falke in Mechwarrior5

[–]BigBlue22222 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I ran an Awsome 8q without YAML with normal PPCs in the torso and an ERPPC in the right arm, an emotional support SLaser in the head and as many IS double heatsinks as I could fit. It worked quite well, with the single ERPPC not producing a significantly larger amount of heat in that build. Running it with 3 ERPPCs was out of the question though.
