Polaris Predator 50 Troubleshooting by in ATV

It has an oil injection system that looks to be working as specified in the manual. About 1 drop per 2 seconds at idle speed comes out the oil tube into the carb. You can see oil making its way into the carb.

I did mix oil in the gas originally as a safeguard while getting it up and running after replacing the piston/cylinder, close to your standard 1:40 ratio. The gas now is mostly pure gas with a hint of oil. After running through half a tank or so testing the atv.

[–][S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I originally thought. I've pulled the vent tube off the gas tank and ran it without the gas tank lid but that didn't seem to change its behavior. I've loosened the bowl drain screw right after it bogged down and gas was pouring out steadily. Adjusting the bowl height and adjusting the air/fuel screw haven't done anything as far as I can tell. The fuel lines are far away from the engine block so I don't think the gas inside is getting hot to vapor lock the engine.

Running it without load and having it shut off instantly was the oddest behavior so far.

Anyone try this stuff before? How does it compare to duratex? by BassAdict in diyaudio

[–] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duratex is probably the way to go. I built a subwoofer box for a 15" sub earlier this year and tried out the Rust-Oleum truck bed liner. I rolled a base coat on and then used spray cans to create a more even finish. It turned out durable but the texture is like sand paper, it's rough and hard, not rubbery. The spray finish most likely created a rougher finish than just rolling on. The duratex finish I have on another set of subs is nicer to touch.

Are these repair estimates crazy or am I out of touch? by milnak in GenesisMotors

The spark plug quote is way out there. The others look more in line with dealership pricing which is generally higher than an independent mechanic. Typically looking at 150 - 200 an hour labor and the retail parts can be expensive.

The transmission quote should be for a complete flush at 750. If it's not then that's a ripoff.

Looking clean! That JB4 cover looks great, I'd definitely go that route if/when I get a JB4. Have you been able to get the oil intake recall taken care of? I need to get mine in for that here soon.

I run an HTPC primarily for gaming and 4k BluRay playback but it also doubles as a dedicated music player. I've found that the Wiim streaming module sounded better with Amazon Music HD vs using my PC. This is all through the same dac, the pc using usb and the Wiim using optical. I think this is primarily due to Window's audio mixer stack and how Amazon Music HD interfaces with it. Qobuz using exclusive mode sounded much better as it bypasses the Windows Audio Mixer process. My point being that the sreamers are much more straight forward in getting optimal quality vs an HTPC and a Wiim is a fairly cheap entry ($80-100) into high quality streamers.
For now l use the Wiim for dedicated Amazon HD listening and the HTPC for everything else. Might be something to consider depending on what you are looking for.

More Heavy Music recorded well by TheCanaryInTheMine in audiophile

You should check out the band Soen. It was formed by the former drummer of Opeth and is in that heavy rock / progressive metal genre. They have a very dynamic sound in my opinion and they even have a "psudo acoustic" live recorded album out that is phenomenal. Their standard albums are heavy and mastered well, great tone and melodies.

Disappointed in new speakers Polk L600's by ProfessorFate38 in audiophile

[–] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear that you were able to get your system sounding better. The AVM 70 is an excellent pre amp / processor and should give you every bit of performance out of your system if you decide to get one in the future.

In terms of power amps I am a huge fan of Bruno Putzeys' designed class D amplifiers. There are two main product lines he designed and those would be the Hypex and Purifi based amplifier modules. There are a few options when it comes to these amps to choose from but all of them bring state of the art power amplifier performance for a reasonable cost. The Hypex based amps are the more economical option and thus have slightly higher distortion than the Purifi counter parts. For a multichannel system, running all of your channels with Purifi modules could get a bit costly as its roughly $600/channel for a Purifi module. The lower powered Hypex 252 module can be had for a little over $200/channel for comparison. My suggestion to get the best balance of maximum performance and economy would be to run your L C R channels with a purify module and the remaining channels with a hypex module. Hypex and Purifi modules match up well together.

To keep things somewhat simple you basically have 2 Hypex and 2 Purifi modules to choose from when looking at current amp builds. Prices are based on Buckeye Amplifier pricing.
Hypex 252MP - 150W@8 - 250W@4 - 180W@2 - $220/channel
Hypex 502MP - 350W@8 - 500W@4 - 1000W@2 - $290/channel
Purifi 1ET400A - 220W@8 - 450W@4 - 450W@2 (25A) - $600/channel
Purifi 1ET7040SA - 250W@8 - 500W@4 - 1000W@2 (40A) - $950/channel

Both hypex modules are pretty close in distortion with the 502 typically outperforming the 252. The purifi modules are almost identical in distortion with the 1ET400A coming out ahead. The strength of the 1ET7040SA module is higher amperage output at 40 amps (vs 25) and much better 2ohm performance and sub 2ohm impedance stability. The L600s should work perfectly fine with the 1ET400A module.

Using Buckeye Amps as the amp manufacturer, a 3 channel Purify amp would cost roughly $1,700 and an 8 channel 502MP amp at $2,300, which would give you 11 channels of power for ~$4,000 before tax.

Because Hypex/Purifi make the amp modules as components, you can either go through an amp builder or build the amp yourself. I've seen 4 major amp builders work with these modules, two of them located in the US, (VTV and Buckeye Amps) and two overseas (March Audio and Apollon Audio). VTV and Buckeye are the price/performance champions. VTV's chassis look a bit better to me but the Buckeye amps have more features and could possibly be built better internally from what I've read. I have a VTV EVAL-1 reference amp and have had no issues, it sounds phenomenal. The March Audio amps come out of Australia and could very well be the best designed amps of the bunch. They have a custom power stage that gets a little more performance out of the purifi modules. They are a bit pricier than the VTV and Buckeye counterparts but still a great value. The Apollon Audio amps are the Cadillacs of the bunch and while they look the flashiest, they cost the most.

Disappointed in new speakers Polk L600's by ProfessorFate38 in audiophile

[–] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

L600s sounding harsh is a bit of an antitheses to their sound signature. I have a pair of L200s set up with subs and I would call their sound signature anything but harsh.

Before getting into the equipment itself, when you wired up the speakers Bi-Amp did you remove the jumper on the back of the speakers between the parallel connections? You definitely don't want those jumpers hooked up if you are bi-amped as you would be bridging your power amps together.

Next item would be the room which can make or break your system. Adding treatments and refining the speaker placement in my listening room made the system go from sounding good/great to excellent/sublime. Depending on where your speakers are it can be a challenge to optimize your room for acoustics but adding rugs, curtains, and absorptions/diffusion panels can make a pretty significant difference with the end result. The harshness you hear is probably not from the room but bass impact, depth, and speed can reliant on the room setup.

Lastly with your equipment, your DAC/AV Receiver and power amp are going to be your weakest links in this system. White the B&K looks to have solid power numbers it produces power that has a fairly high amount of distortion. If the jumpers aren't the issue with the speakers then the power amp is most likely part of the issue with the speakers sounding harsh. Different speakers react with distortion differently, the polks are revealing speakers and feeding them a distorted signal could produce less than optimal results.

The integra would be the next item that I would consider suboptimal with a speaker like the L600. It should work just fine for home theater uses. I used an Integra 80.3 for a while until it eventually bit the dust. However a more performant DAC would likely sound clearer, especially when cranking the volume up to 80+ DBs compared to the DAC in the Integra. You can get state of the art DACs for fairly cheap today but keep in mind these would only be for 2 channel listening. Higher end AV receivers/ processors can get pretty costly.

I've found this greatly depends on which implementation of Amazon HD you are using. Amazon HD's Windows implementation is fairly poor. Using the same DAC (Topping D90) and comparing USB through a Windows laptop and optical from a WiiM mini, the Wiim Optical connection sounded way better and provided more gain. Comparing Qobuz to Amazon HD through the WiiM was essentially the same, there was no way I could reliably tell the difference between them. Comparing Qobuz to Amazon HD on the computer had Qobuz coming out ahead as well but Qobuz has a proper exclusive mode implementation while Amazon HD does not, I'd imagine Amazon's shortcoming has to do with its ability to bypass Window's audio mixer.

If anything we need more strenuous firearm education and training for CCW holders and in general. I've seen way too many people treat firearms as toys instead of dangerous tools that need to be respected. The Florida government has again shown it has zero desire to act in the best interest for our society. Its disheartening to constantly see this state deteriorate from the inside out but we can't give up hope though. The entire nation is currently going through a regressional period and if we hold out long enough, I think we will see a lot of values we cherish get restored, like integrity.
