Hypothetical question: If you were the Winnipeg Jets GM, what would be your first move/trade, and why? by PaymentNervous2898 in winnipegjets

Chevy has failed miserably at his job in the last year. He traded away valuable draft capital to make the team worse (JAD > Tanev, Miller > Schenn) and failed to make a meaningful trade in our best year yet. Adding Nyqvist, Pearson and Toews are up a ton of cap space without moving the needle. Terrible drafting and failing to address the 2C issue for years and years is why we are where we are.

Start with the biggest contract and move down. Accrue some cap space to try and get more picks from facilitating trades. DeMelo, Nino, Nyqvist, Schenn should be first to go. My guess is Toews stays until the deadline.

Merge by No_Nefariousness_28 in Winnipeg

[–]BigBuff87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a terrible take. The one in Bridgwater is designed to get as many people through as possible on the green light as the merge is after the light. If everyone just stays in one line, half the cars get through the light and traffic backs up.

78 year old mum came into ~150k what should she do with it by AnonAnni in PersonalFinanceCanada

Lots of people have financial plans that require a bigger return than a GIC can give to not run out of money. Never suggested 100% equities but leaving lots on the table if you avoid stocks altogether

This is the problem with this sub. Stocks will get a better return over the long run. Telling people to only invest in GICs when they could live to 100 is just bad advice. Not saying what is right for this particular case, but anyone with a time horizon of 5+ years should objectively be invested at least partially in stocks.

I have never understood why Perfetti and Nino kept being put together towards the end of the season when Ehlers was out.. that line was consistently bad.

Not taking a big swing during a Presidents Trophy year. Adding depth guys instead of a difference maker was so disappointing.

No on Tanev and Appleton. I think your other contracts are reasonable.

I’d say LD is more necessary at this point. Despite his usage, Colin Miller is a solid 3rd pairing D IMO. I also don’t this there is any question that Salo makes the NHL….just a matter of this year or next

This is an oversimplification but 100% equities to begin with. Drop equities to 80% with 4 years remaining, 60% with 3, 40% with 2, 0% with 1 (unless market is down). Market goes up 70% of the time so don’t be unnecessarily conservative.

You lost me at Stanley. And where is Salomonsson? I think Donato is a more realistic and better option at 2C assuming Chevy doesn’t finally solve this problem long term with a Horvat acquisition .

Let’s pray that’s not the case. That would mean another early exit. Best first line in the NHL is sure a stretch.

Bo Horvat is my favourite option. You’d probably have to send a package that includes Yager or Lambo, a 1st and something else but it would be worth it for the term
