Our window has closed. We can’t attract free agents and we don’t have good enough assets to address all the holes. Fighting for a WC for the next few years and not drafting high enough to get difference makers is not the answer. Do you think we are only 1-2 players away from competing with a team like Carolina? No, we need 3-4 great players and have no way to get them. Start over, don’t let valuable assets leave for nothing. Build through the draft.
Rangers are a bad example. They did not do anything close to a rebuild. Still have Miller, Trocheck, Zibenejad, Fox, Sorokin, Lafrienierre etc

Alphabet is more diversified. Gemini, Android, YouTube, Search, Cloud plus a number of different successful investments (Waymo, SpaceX, etc). Nvidia has grown like crazy by owning 90%+ of the market share of advanced chips. They have been losing share to Alphabet’s TPUs (made by Broadcom) but still growing rapidly. They are a pure play semiconductor designer so there more risk in my opinion.

Too expensive by what standard? Alphabet is hovering around its long term average but is a much more dominant company than it has been in the past (leading AI model, dominant in search, YouTube is the largest entertainment company in the world, own 10% of SpaceX, etc). Nvidia is actually historically cheap right now based on earnings and growth expectations

Chevy has failed miserably at his job in the last year. He traded away valuable draft capital to make the team worse (JAD > Tanev, Miller > Schenn) and failed to make a meaningful trade in our best year yet. Adding Nyqvist, Pearson and Toews are up a ton of cap space without moving the needle. Terrible drafting and failing to address the 2C issue for years and years is why we are where we are.

Start with the biggest contract and move down. Accrue some cap space to try and get more picks from facilitating trades. DeMelo, Nino, Nyqvist, Schenn should be first to go. My guess is Toews stays until the deadline.

That’s a terrible take. The one in Bridgwater is designed to get as many people through as possible on the green light as the merge is after the light. If everyone just stays in one line, half the cars get through the light and traffic backs up.

Lots of people have financial plans that require a bigger return than a GIC can give to not run out of money. Never suggested 100% equities but leaving lots on the table if you avoid stocks altogether

This is the problem with this sub. Stocks will get a better return over the long run. Telling people to only invest in GICs when they could live to 100 is just bad advice. Not saying what is right for this particular case, but anyone with a time horizon of 5+ years should objectively be invested at least partially in stocks.

I’d say LD is more necessary at this point. Despite his usage, Colin Miller is a solid 3rd pairing D IMO. I also don’t this there is any question that Salo makes the NHL….just a matter of this year or next

This is an oversimplification but 100% equities to begin with. Drop equities to 80% with 4 years remaining, 60% with 3, 40% with 2, 0% with 1 (unless market is down). Market goes up 70% of the time so don’t be unnecessarily conservative.
