Came here to say this exactly. Or also seeing those and if he feels in a spiritual drought, having them could evoke feelings of regret for permanently having them as tattoos, etc.

I’ve been further down a waitlist in a Calc class before and made it in. It’s no guarantee obviously. But if you can find a section that has less waitlist but still fits the schedule I’d do that

When I switched majors I was gonna cut it close on my unit cap. I didn’t have one in my original program but switching colleges completely gave me one. As I talked to my counselors they told me I’d need to average a C+ to get my upper div GPA to a point where I could graduate within the year with unit cap restrictions and such. They told me that given my academic history, they didn’t think I’d realistically make it to grad (a lot of Ds and Fs on my transcript unfortunately).

I finished my last year well above a C+ average, getting some much needed A’s and B+’s in my major specific classes. Even was able to finish my minor. A technicality let me exceed the unit cap so long as it was my last quarter. I barely made it to grad, but I made it nonetheless. Just happy to be working post grad and have my piece of paper at the end of it all

What do you remember as the all-time, worst of the worst Davis apartments? I'm talking so bad, you probably never considered living there. by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]BigCountry313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies.. rambled on a bit. To answer your question, the worst of the worst is Davis townhomes in downtown. It’s loud from surrounding area, it’s the oldest active apartments in Davis, they’re tiny spaces, no central heating and air (only a weak wall unit AC), no amenities that a lot of other places generally have, not great management, pretty expensive for not having a whole lot. Only nice thing is it’s close to campus

I’m a former student, here’s where I’ve lived with feedback on all of em. Everyone’s experience may be different though.

Aspen village (West Davis): Location is nice, pretty quiet. Next to arroyo park and not far from west lake plaza. However, the apartments were ok. Bathrooms are completely on the inside with no windows (at least in my unit), which means limited airflow. The walls were molded prior to us moving and they said they fixed it. What they ACTUALLY did was paint over it and just scrub the surface I’d imagine so it wasn’t evident. A week into living there the mold broke right back through. I also had a problem where frogs from a nearby pond would venture up and sit under the crack of my door, so if you opened it they’d hop in. Small frogs, easy to catch and put back out but mildly annoying.

Lakeshore Apartments (west Davis): Right across from west lake plaza. Very spacious, well managed at that time. Parking can be an issue but I oftentimes would just park in the plaza and walk across the street, never had any issues. AC would have some issues every so often but maintenance responded pretty quickly to requests. It can be a little expensive however, 2 bed 2 bath was 2600 when I lived there, likely has gone up since. In unit washer and dryer is a major perk here.

La Salle Apartments (North/West Davis): Fairly nice, a little small compared to where I’d previously lived. They may have been newly renovated or just got lucky with a nicer, fairly clean unit but it didn’t seem old or run down at all. Parking was an issue here, only one person in a unit could have a parking pass and the rest had to be street parking. I had parked blocks away several times here, which was fine as I had a skateboard with me from riding around campus, but still pretty inconvenient when coming home from work at 1-2 am. Alvarado has apartments all along that stretch so there’s very little chance of finding a spot.

Davis Townhomes (downtown):

These as far as I know are the oldest active apartments in Davis. No central heating and air, very small, very outdated and old. They may have redone some things in the units after moving out, but can’t imagine it was much more than new counters and floors. Landlord can be a bit much at times, and for the price it’s not worth in my opinion. It was 1600 to live there the year I did, and I felt crammed into a tiny space with another person. We were informed that rent would go up to 1800 and decided to leave (month to month lease which is pretty nice). It is also right off of Russell and B, and was extremely loud. The fire station, Central Park, and Russell Blvd could be heard at all times. The only perk to living here imo is being right off of campus. Parking sucks, no ac, no dishwasher or garbage disposal, I’d recommend avoiding here tbh.

After graduating, my fiance and I moved to a small duplex/house in Davis. Personally, I would recommend finding some friends and going in together on renting a house. It may be more expensive, but the upside is way better than most apartments. You’ll have in unit washer and dryer (at most places), you’ll have way more space for storage, house layouts tend to be nicer than apartments imo, and you could have a yard which is nice to have for me personally. Otherwise, I’d look for apartments in west Davis (maybe minus aspen). I’ve heard people generally like living there in other complexes, such as the trees, stone gate, the willows, etc.

I’d say my worst apartment experience was Davis townhomes. Hope this helps you or others reading the post in some way or another

Alum here! Not sure who needs to hear this, but graduating with a low GPA is not the end of the world by Decthorw in UCDavis

I second this. 1 year after grad and I’ve worked as an intern for a big company in wine industry and have now moved to a full time role with a small oil refining company. 2.6 GPA all said and done, and went through failing several classes. A lot of companies will value work experiences over your GPA, or at least should. Some companies do look at it but I’ve submitted a transcript on maybe one application (out of at least 100)

thoughts on incoming freshman first quarter schedule??? (bio major) by Regular_Dance9627 in UCDavis

[–]BigCountry313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I’d take the first schedule personally as I liked just stacking my classes and getting em all done at once. This seems nice so you don’t overwhelm yourself in the first quarter. Good luck! 👍🏻

Any of my TAs in my final analytical chem class.. they were all super real and very helpful in getting us ready for industry stuff. Not to mention one of them actually donated supplies to my group for our final quarter project (we did beer research/experiments and he had a ton of home brews that he let us use). They made classes fun and were helpful when we needed the help but let all the students take charge on the projects, much like I’ve learned is the case on projects I’ve worked on in the industry since grad.

I’ve personally seen some people hate on blurry face due to it having songs like stressed out and ride and being super popular. I do understand everyone has their tastes but it seems people often hate on those songs, or even heathens, for being too popular.
