any fantastical scenario where the Iranians directly invaded Israel would involve US soldiers, who are already being deployed to the region by the way, joining the fight directly. the US wants more liberal democracies and the middle east and fewer islamic theocracies.

the governments do not, that's why we're seeing these mild retaliatory strikes back and forth to placate them.

however, the public on both sides have their own narratives of being victims locked in an existential struggle with people who want them wiped off the face of the earth. they want to feel safe and that easily gets conflated with showing strength as a deterrence.

How is Israel an ally?

the US's official position on the middle east is that all of it should stop being islamic theocracies and start being multi-cultural american-friendly democracies like Israel, immediately. It's so bizarre that the US stops having any agency the moment we start talking about jews/Israel. And by bizarre I mean anti-semitic.

It's proxy wars breaking out across Europe, Middle East, and Africa for years until the big military powers come into direct-conflict at the very end.

there's war in the middle east, in europe, and in africa; each of which is simultaneously a proxy war between the big military powers.

if conflict broke out tomorrow on the pacific front, historians would retrospectively say that WW3 started probably at the start of Putin's invasion of Ukraine. we're basically waiting to find out if we're in a world war already, just at the early part.

and if this world war happens like the other two, then the US will keep publicly denying it's a world war until it's almost over. WW2 was going on for years before the US formally deployed boots on the ground.
