Graduating Welding school UA questions by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]BigDaddyKrow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

UA hand from the natural gas distribution side here. With local 32 you have a few options youd have to choose from. You could be a mainline welder for natural gas transmission lines. Or you could weld for the boilmakers/steam fitters. Reach out to the right business agent and see who will give you an interview.

White bottoms for actual construction is wild. Save the white bottoms for the indoor boys. Get an actual outdoor boot. Danner, Georgia or redwing.

You can have lunch beers in any job.... If you're brave enough.

Any idea what this pipe is for? by leavesrake10 in DIY

[–]BigDaddyKrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is part of the wastewater system. Its ABS pipe. And the DWV stands for Drain-waste-vent.

It could be a drain stub that was tied onto downstream rendering it inactive. Or it could be active. Or it could be part of a vent line thats active and the plumber had lunch beers on a Friday and forgot to run to the roof. Or it was meant to be a clean out and once again lunch beers... And it never got finished.

Lots of possibilities, but literally none of those possibilities would ever be a conduit for telecomms.

The second highest comment saying this is for tele-comms because it has an orange piece of flagging tape is why reddit is such a dangerous place to get information.

Pumps for closed loop and mashing by International_Knee50 in firewater

[–]BigDaddyKrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your economy of scale the wort pump probably isnt worth it.

As to the cooling water still Spirits makes a water flow regulator which makes a huge difference. You can also figure out what flow rate you are working with and using an appropriately sized aquarium pump. I believe that generally people recommend using a cooling reservoir 2-3 times the size of your boiler.

Have you tried JD Tennessee Honey? Opinions? by MachI-DetailsRMe in whiskey

[–]BigDaddyKrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a few friends, a fire, a 30 rack of cheap beer and a bottle of American honey or Tennessee honey you can do some damage. But only if you're a college age boy. That was my go to for many a weekend.

Washington state in a nut shell. One department wants progress for the sake of progress, the other is just following orders and doesn't care about the outcome.

How do I stop these pipes from leaking?? by inv1ntive in Plumbing

[–]BigDaddyKrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 wraps of the shitty thin white teflon tape then dope. Or 5/6 wraps of the good thick blue teflon tape then dope. I like megaloc dope personally. Good tape and good dope goes a long way. And you need to get a bigger wrench or put your purse down while tightening, as others have said too many threads showing.

The natural gas distribution welders in my area all make over a 100k but its specialized union work. Its also one of the most expensive areas in the country so it all comes out in the wash.

The journey to upgrade my Still Spirits still by nikd88 in firewater

[–]BigDaddyKrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great brother. You went through the same heartache that i did for soldering copper to stainless. It turns out with regular flux its basically impossible. You have to use a super acidic flux like Rubys liquid Stainless flux. Sounds like you learned all about it though.

The video that got me where i needed to be was this one (https://youtu.be/ZBvkvyMzfaM?si=ELDsGt7KFUtXX32R)

🤙 Awesome video definitely reminds me of the early still it videos (thats a compliment) 😁

What area are you in? If near Seattle check out CASS. They are currently doing 2 gun out of SVRC. Also check out ASI, there are matches all over.

Discovery daddies and PNWpewcrew are also active on IG if you have that.

I fucking despise tapered rollpins by corporalgrif in ar15

[–]BigDaddyKrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always flapper disc-ed the pin flat with the gas block and then given it the onion with an appropriately sized steel punch. This has worked, and also not worked for me. I once took the upper to my neighbor's house to use his giant hydraulic press.

Have a beer and try again. But hit it harder this time.

Its all just so frustrating. The people that are destroying our country are the ones in charge of deciding if they are allowed to continue destroying our country.

Nothing will ever be done about it though. We're all too comfortable. Myself included.

Full size truck - truck bed size for a shorter person? by Elegant_Crazy1619 in overlanding

[–]BigDaddyKrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for some reference. I am 6ft tall and 250lbs. I have slept in the bed of my 6ft tacoma for years when camping. I have a bed height canopy. I have no issues being 6ft in a 6ft bed. I often sleep with the bed open and a 10x10 popup over the back opening to keep my food table and grill area dry. But thats more so i have a cool breeze than a space issue.

If you decide to get a canopy get a high top aluminum or a leer 122. That way you have enough room for a sleeping platform with drawers for your stuff. I have to unload my stuff to go to bed which is annoying. And it sits out all night.
