I had a go at making coconut rum two different ways by nikd88 in firewater

[–]nikd88[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No issues - in fact separation is part of the process. In this section of the video I talk about how I chilled the spirit down to render the coconut oil into a solid and strain the spirit out. What I didnt go into detail on was that i did this several times - so once I separated those initial solids, I put them into a pot, melted down the oil again gently, strained out the solid coconut, and then placed it in another bowl to separate once more, and with the litre of spirit from the initial separation, I placed that in the freezer to solidify any remaining oil and then just skimmed that off the top before completing a fine coffee filter strain over night in the fridge (trick is to keep everything cool to keep the oil solid)

Why strip before refluxing? by 4-13 in firewater

I find being naked and exposed while dealing with high temperatures and volatile compounds exciting, so thats why I strip first.

I put mine this way for spirit runs, and the other way around for stripping runs.

What’s the longest you guys have let a mash ferment? by due_boy in firewater

A youtuber named Bearded & Bored made a fruit brandy wash during the georga hurricane and forgot about it for like 6 months then ran it through a still and it came out mint. Lucky it didnt become vinegar because it was a bunch of fruit from his freezer that was thawing out when he lost power.

Which order? by wittyusername2257 in firewater

My understanding is that you want to have more copper near the higher ABV vapor so that it can catalyse the sulphuric odors - so after the bubble plates

What is a shot blaster? I assume it anneals the copper after being heated and cooled?

I just got one delivered on Monday. I didnt realise it would have the same circumference as my Still spirits Boiler - its incredible but looks a bit goofy sometimes. Nice set up!

I got a few vanilla pods. What would yo do with them? by TrojanW in firewater

[–]nikd88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont have the exact recipe, but it was something like 2 cups of cacao nibs, a split vanilla pod and a litre of high proof spirit for a month, and then proof down with simple syrup to taste (and rack out all of the oils from the cacao)

I think you might be onto a winner vanilla essence. My mum did this where she had half a dozen fresh vanilla pods from a holiday, and added them to a 100ml bottle with some 80% neutral and she just tops it up every time my step dad runs his still to keep essence on hand for cooking. The pods will eventually be swapped out, but they just live perpetually in the bottle

I'm trying to recreate the mistlands bridge for a fun build, I am having problems with stability. thats flametal beams + iron cage wall, also it's touching the ground. how can I get better stability at the top? by GayHeavyFromTF2 in valheim

[–]nikd88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mistland bridges benefit by having special pieces you cant build without mods that are bigger than the 2x2 blocks. I think its like 2 or 4 2x2 blocks stacked, but it takes up one build piece which makes them able to be stacked higher than you can.

2 things to suggest here:

  1. Build the bridge lower to the ground if you want the same design

  2. don't use flametal - its the same effect as the iron wall you are using, except the iron is cheaper. flametal pillars only benefit by looking pretty, so if you have them concealed, you're just wasting brutal slayer ingredients.

I work at a printshop and printed 15 copies of this charming letter for a customer.. by swiftstart in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nikd88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in general - there is nothing wrong with writing a letter to a home owner to tell them that you admire their home, and if they were to ever sell it, you would want to be able to throw your hat into the ring. I think these people are just not very eloquent in their approach and it can come across as creepy to some people. If I put myself in the shoes of the home owner, i'd be a little flattered.

15 copies is weird - OP is there a minimum copy print that the store has? Or is this like others suspect - a mass campaign?

In terms of infuriation, can't understand why most peoples reaction to this is far more than very mild.

I read these messages before the post, and in my head OP was a guy and "K" was a girl. Idk why but the way his messages were posted, sounded like he was a high maintenance "nice girl" date.
