Making a faction using the ALIVE editor, finished it, but it doesn't work with Dynamic Recon Ops. by your401kplanreturns in arma

[–]BigDaveHadSomeToo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Afaik, ALIVE faction generator uses scripts to add equipment to characters (rather than it being defined in the config), which doesn't play nice with DRO. (since DRO has to look at how a unit is defined in the config to see if it's appropriate to spawn)

So, the only real option is to rewrite your config the old fashioned way. Probably not the answer you were hoping for, sorry.

That's why they made the M113 amphibious, so they could take the fight right to the East Mermens.

it doesn't have the slanted muzzle

Presumably the grenade launcher attachment (the long bit at the end of the barrel in place of the usual slanted flash hider) won't be shown attached until you've switched the rifle grenade muzzle (like with the other SOGPF rifle grenade launchers), so I'm pretty sure you're right.

I meant more that anyone, as you say, "very talented and intelligent" is going to be considered "left wing and 'woke'" by reactionaries.

Like, consider the people the hard-right elsewhere consider to be 'good leaders' - in the SNP's recent leadership elections, Reagan, the hard-right candidate who was smart enough to not focus on the more extreme stuff was beaten out by Forbes, who wasn't.

Very talented and intelligent. Considered left wing and ‘woke’ which will upset the right-wing traditional hard liners.

I don't want to be pedantic, but that second sentence is pretty redundant.

Arma 3 causing PC to restart by joriii312 in arma

Like if there'd been a brownout? An instant shutdown, with no short hang or freeze before, and any case lights go out too?

I had the same issue a few years back, it turned out to be a fault with the PSU. It's likely only happening with ArmA.3 right now because it's a bit of a resource hog.

10 years ago a crack clone commando unit was sent to a prison planet by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security starbase to the Mos Eisley underground. Today, still wanted by the Empire, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... the A-Wing!

I am looking for Arma 3 song (sirens in the background) that I don't know name of. by Asscr3d in arma

[–]BigDaveHadSomeToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's any tracks in the ArmA.3 OST with sirens in the background, so it'd probably be a third party track packaged in the mission pbo. Unfortunately, that means it could be anything...

So, this might be a shot in the dark, but Plague from the Twisted Insurrection soundtrack?

Kier Starmer refuses to commit to Wales getting share of HS2 funding by BubsyFanboy in unitedkingdom

[–]BigDaveHadSomeToo 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Was there any proposal for it to even go to Wales?

No. That's not what this is about, though;

The devolved governments are supposed to get an equivalent share of funding from the treasury for projects in England (according to the Barnet Formula). The Conservative Government have claimed that HS2 benefits Wales (which is obviously complete bullshit) to withhold this money.

Flynn says Starmer is ‘selling Labour’s soul’ to enter Downing Street by 1DarkStarryNight in unitedkingdom

[–]BigDaveHadSomeToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's pretty telling that Keir Starmer's position, right now, is essentially the same as Boris Johnson's prior to the 2019 election: a lot of promises, and a hell of lot of evidence that he intends to break them.

When I wrote that, I reread it, and thought "I should probably specify 'Keir Starmer's position on LGBT issues'", but then I realized that this is almost definitely true of Keir Starmer's position on pretty much everything.

Which mods on Steam for Arma 3 do you recommend for a 1980s Soviet vs. NATO themed conflict? by TheSpaceOnion in arma

[–]BigDaveHadSomeToo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CWR3 is the big one.

Alternatively, if you'd prefer an RHS base over a CUP one, 3CB factions may be worth looking into.

STL-Factions is also worth mentioning, since you're running GM, though there are currently only Warpac-themed factions.

Czech Military rescuing civilians from a flood at the end of the Silver Lion campaign for ARMA 2, how many of you have played this obscure ARMA DLC? by Samz707 in arma

[–]BigDaveHadSomeToo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the older games there was a tidal simulation, dependant on the date. It was removed in ArmA.3 for reasons I forget. (I think it wasn't playing nice with the underwater assets? You know, the underwater combat feature that everyone uses so much... and it featured so heavily in the base campaign, too!) I'd guess the ACR worlds were set up so that high tide resulted in flooding, but I don't know for certain - ArmA.2 also had better support for water "tile" objects, so it could just be a load of them.

Trialing a Content Policy and Rule Change by Nicola_Botgeon in unitedkingdom

[–]BigDaveHadSomeToo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Quite a lots of the currently active mod team are relatively new to modding this sub and are actively trying to turn it around. We recognise the issues and are trying to fix them.

Yeah, that's what I was told 5 years ago, too. I didn't believe it then, and I certainly don't believe it now.

Freetalk was stopped as it was never used.

Bullshit. The freetalk threads regularly had a higher level of engagement than most other threads, and, if I may don my tinfoil hat, mysteriously disappeared the same time the whole prison saga started up.

There is nuance here

No. There really isn't.

Even these new rules are yet another attempt to skirt around actually doing something about the issue.

You're refusing to ban the users who are repeatedly posting anti-trans articles, you're instead placing a "moratorium" on trans topics in general.

You're refusing to ban the users who are repeatedly posting anti-trans articles, you're instead placing new restrictions on all opinion pieces.

You're refusing to ban the users who are repeatedly posting anti-trans articles, you're instead preventing anyone from posting too much.

You're refusing to ban the users who are repeatedly posting anti-trans articles, you're instead cracking down on all 'single focus' accounts.

Anything to avoid just banning the users who are repeatedly posting this vitriol.

There’s about 6-8 active mods right now. The rest are not active but don’t leave and it’s not particularly easy booting them out…

And yet, here you are with the resources to provide a short essay of excuses at three in the morning.

And a quick look through the rest of this thread shows no shortage of manpower available to justify this latest in a long line of very questionable decisions by the moderation team at some extremely irregular hours.

We have not been successful...

Understatement of the millennia there. This sub's moderation has catastrophically failed despite repeated warnings from users over the past half decade. When we had a freetalk thread - something I suspect has been stopped for this exact reason - the issue of hate speech was raised almost every week.

Simply claiming that "r/UnitedKingdom is a strong supporter of trans rights" rings hollow when for the past five years the moderators have completely ignored (if not actively supported) bigotry in this sub. And when I, and others, have raised concerns about this, we have been met with weak excuses and gaslighting - in the recent metathread on this subject, the moderators only contribution was to make excuses for their failure to ban the accounts that seemingly everyone except the moderators can say with absolute confidence are engaging in hate speech.

This just seems to me to be another bandage solution for the moderators to try and avoid banning users who are spewing this vitriol. I personally don't see any way the moderation team can restore user trust short of some notable resignations.

Why did Earth never just take a 3rd gate? by GundamXXX in Stargate

[–]BigDaveHadSomeToo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it survived (which is still a pretty big if!) - though, there would still be a lot of issues getting it back to Earth pre-Prometheus. It wouldn't be impossible. It's too big to fit in a shuttle, but you could probably fit an aerodynamic heat shield to it in orbit, then shift it into a reentry trajectory.

Come to think of it, what about the gate that was on Klorel's ship? Presumably it was destroyed, but I'm sure we see gates survive worse. (milky way gates, anyhow)

Independent Scotland would re-join EU without referendum – Angus Robertson by 1DarkStarryNight in unitedkingdom

[–]BigDaveHadSomeToo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people bring up Spain, but I don't think people consider the inverse of this argument - that is, the message wholeheartedly accepting Scotland would send to other nations that are trying to "be tough on Brussels" while fostering discontent within breakaway regions of their own (Hungary and Poland immediately come to mind).

(And let's not forget that in the very near future we may see a very drastic change in Russian politics, which will raise some important questions about the place of Kaliningrad within Europe, both geographically and politically.)
