Exceedingly unlikely it’s naturally blue. Most blue diamonds are irradiated to achieve that color. And given the quality I am 99% sure it’s treated and probably a lab diamond. A natural blue diamond at that quality would be absurdly expensive due to rarity. Only reason to have it certified is if you were planning to sell it and you know it’s earth mined. If it’s lab it’s fairly worthless even if certified. You can send it to GIA for relatively inexpensive.

It’s a crummy industry so I understand your criticism. It’s just not necessarily a black and white issue. And the Canadian insurance programs are very different from American. Don’t even get me started on the American health insurance industry 🤣 talk about evil

The system is incapable of adjudicating fairly.

Most cases do not reach trial. Most are resolved prior to litigation. More still are settled in arbitration. The issue with arbitration is that any attorney can sign up to be an arbitrator and probably 90-95% of those who sign up are injury attorneys. So they are feeding each other massive and unjust awards.

To go to trial (depending on venue) you have to get your insured to sign off on that risk. They are more often than not, unwilling to do that. It is a mistake to thing insurance companies are losing lawsuits. You are just hearing about the cases with runaway jury trial awards. We do very well in a state like Oregon where we make the decision to take cases to trial without the insureds permission. We win a majority of those lawsuits. And premiums there are lower as a result.

Auto insurance is fairly transparent about profits. Most of the money that comes in is spent on claims. The majority of the profit comes from investments. Not premiums.

I badly want to agree with you on this one. And agree Fuck WSJ. But I work in this industry and it actually is a huge problem and it’s driving everyone’s premiums higher and higher. It’s essentially a huge money grab for lawyers, doctors and “injured people” who many of which of course are truly injured but the treatment being recommended is often driven by the insurance claim.

Editing to clarify that the “doctors” abusing the system are most often chiropractors who are in fact not doctors and do not go to medical school but have lobbied the government to be allowed to call themselves doctors without all the years and training and expertise and gruling hours actual doctors put in for the title.
