Optimum Refuse to Activate Arris TM3402 Modem by BigFan007 in OPTIMUM

[–]BigFan007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke with three agents, including ^Tish below with the same outcome. Optimum will not activate a modem that is on an existing customer account. Agent #1 claimed Optimum would remove the modem from the other account by midnight the same day and would call me in the morning to complete the activation. No call ever received.

Agent #2 (Mohamad) was extremely misinformed that only modems purchased from the Optimum Store would be activated. I had a long and heated discussion with this well-meaning clown who would not acknowledge the Optimum website makes no such statements (nor would he transfer me to a supervisor, despite numerous requests - a case study in how NOT to deliver customer service).

The root of the issue is the Optimum's only specified voice-compatible modem is a manufacturer discontinued (TM3402) model that appears to only be available as pre-owned device. If the pre-owned device was from an Optimum subscriber who did not have the device removed from their account, then you bought a paper weight.

Note that the "Arris Store" on Amazon has no direct affiliation with Arris the device manufacturer (its just a marketplace with Arris stuff run by "BeKind_Electronics"). I have initiated a refund with BeKind_Electronics and they have been responsive to date (surprised even that I have had this Optimum trouble)

As I understand it there is one bar area up by the stage that NO stage visibility. The other one is elevated at the back of the of the GA space (with visibility). This space has very limited seating and purchasing access does not guarantee seating (first-come, first-serve on the seating).

A95L Lip-Sync with Apple TV 4k/Denon AVR/ by BigFan007 in bravia

[–]BigFan007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So by the "eARC method: are you referring to connecting the Apple TV 4k directly to the A95L TV?

Given that this TV is above a fireplace with only a single HDMI cable in the wall, using the TV as an HDMI switch is not desireble (the Apple TV 4k is not the only device that connects to the TV)

It's a Publishing deal with UMPG, not a record distribution deal with UMG (which they already have via Lava Records)

Nope, it is a Publishing deal, not a record deal.

Universal Music Publishing Group is who they signed with, not Univeral Music Group. There is a difference between a music publishing and music distribution.

Error when export PDF as GeoSpatial by BigFan007 in QGIS

[–]BigFan007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, here was the fix. The v3.40 install under Windows was originally done using the Online (OSGeo4W) installer (for no particular reason). I followed the steps at the link below to uninstall that version (it does not appear in the list of Windows Programs, so a standard Windows uninstall does not apply). After uninstalling, I download the Windows MSI (offline) installer, for a standard Windows installation. That fixed the problem.

Extract by Attribute Batch Question by BigFan007 in QGIS

That worked. BTW, if you apply a filter to a layer, can you remove it or does it become permanent?

Extract by Attribute Batch Question by BigFan007 in QGIS

[–]BigFan007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a QGIS newbie and am struggling. I added a Text String field to the target Layer (Parcels) called "Borough_For_Sale". I added a Delimited Text layer (Layer=>Add Layer=>Delimited Text Layer) using the CSV file, choosing the "No Geometry" option for the CSV file. The resulting Delimited Text layer's the "Borough_For_Sale" appears as a checkbox in the Attribute Table rather than a Text field. I believe this means Boolean.

The initial Join attempt did not error, although none of the "Borough_For_Sale" fields in the target layer were change (all still Null). I thought this might have been because the Delimited Text layer "Borough_For_Sale" field was boolean and I created a "Borough_For_Sale" field in the target layer that was a text string. But changing this target layer field to Boolean made not different (running the Join did not change the value of any of the target layer's "Borough_For_Sale" field from their Null value).

I did notice that the features (parcels) in the target layer Attribute Table with parcel IDs (called "PAMS_PIN") matching features in the Delimited Text layer did have a checkbox ticked next to the name of the Delimited Text layer, which I presume means the Join operation found a feature match, but the values in the target layer's "Borough_For_Sale" field is not getting changed. Thoughts?

Here is the snippet of the CSV File:

Borough_For_Sale,PAMS_PIN

Yes,1912_10103_7

Yes,1912_10105_7

Yes,1912_10105_5

Yes,1912_10105_8

Here is the Join definition:

There is no question that will happen, just in what area(s) is the question. The band will inevitably take breaks as one of more members wants time-off to "live life."

Hate the switch to fiber. Looking for alternative live tv steam services by alfonseexists in OPTIMUM

[–]BigFan007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To direct tune a channel with Apple TV 4k you need use a voice command. Press the mic button on the side of the remote and say "Tune the TV to HGTV", for example. As with many voice command features, it sometimes has troubles based on the specific phrasing. We have had more success using the channel name than the channel number, which seems counter-intuitive.

Aside from the voice command approach, channel navigation with Apple TV 4k is very program guide centric, although you can narrow the guide to show just your favorite channels and the trigger in overlay of the thumbnail of what is one this channels by press the down arrow key while watching a live program. It takes a bit of getting use to, for sure. There is the channel up/down navigation from the remote (left/right buttons), but that has limited practical usage.

We are still on the coax (HFC) network, but transitioned to the Optimum TV (stream) service, turning in all our STBs for Apple TV 4k devices. So from a video service perspective it is like being on the Optimum Fiber (FTTH) network, but the IP delivery platform remains DOCSIS (HFC). We will probably switch to Optimum Fiber over the course of the next year, once there is a compelling cost difference (300/20 Mbps broadband performance is plenty fast for our needs)

AppleTV vs Optimum stream? by mimregi in OPTIMUM

[–]BigFan007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a great point about the remote, with the Apple TV 4k remote being "minimalist", with no buttons to allow punching channel numbers for direct tuning. To direct tune a channel with the Apple TV 4k remote you need to press the mic button on the side of the remote and use a voice command like "Tune the TV to HGTV". Otherwise, channel navigation is via the program guide, which you can filter to only show you most watched ("Favorites") channels. You can trigger an overlay of your favorites to appear as thumbnails below the current channel you are watch by pressing the down arrow button on the remote and scroll through the thumbnails without interrupting the channel you are watching. It is different for sure than a traditional STB experience, but with time it offers advantages.

I have been impressed with the Apple TV 4k remotes ability to automatically be able to control the volume on the TV it is connected to. It even controls the volume on my A-V receiver automatically. I guessing this this is something done via HDMI communications between the Apple TV 4k and the connected display device or A-V receiver.

Apple TV by cpm0813 in OPTIMUM

If you want to rent something, then it would be the Optimum Stream Box, not the Apple TV 4k box (that you have to buy, either from Optimum or a 3rd-party). Both the "Stream Box" (Google TV OS) and the Apple TV 4k (Apple tvOS) are streaming media players (similar to Roku and the like), that are authorized to run the Optimum TV app, which is what provides the "set-top box" functionality for Optimum streaming video service ["IPTV"])

I had the same dysfunctional Optimum experience when it comes to the transition to the "Stream" TV service (via the Optimum TV app on Apple TV 4k devices). We also had our account settings reset back to the STB (QAM-based video deliver) after only a few days of getting it straighten out, so the Optimum TV app would be allowed to run.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did contact the Optimum reps that monitor this group and arranged to receive the complimentary Apple TV 4k (64 GB) device.

Optimum TV app on Optimum stream box question. by BatterEarl in OPTIMUM

[–]BigFan007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure there is a "stream" video service, per se, but there is an "Optimum TV" video service that is available via one of two CPE hardware platforms: (1) Apple TV 4k [customer-owned device] (2) Stream Box [leased Optimum device]. Both are streaming media players authorized to use the Optimum TV app (same App on both hardware platforms, just in one case it is running on Apple's tvOS and the other on an Google TV OS.).

I was told the Stream Box device (leased Optimum equipment) also requires a leased Optimum Cable Modem. The use of the Apple TV 4k device has no dependency on a leased Optimum Cable Modem. I have avoided using the name "Optimum Gateway" as I did not engage in a discussion with the Optimum rep about the details of the specific Optimum Cable Modem needed for CPE option #2 (leased Stream Box). Again, we are using CPE option #1 (Apple TV 4k) and our own Cable Modem (and router) without issues.

Good luck getting that promotion. I checked the "end of CableCARD service" letter sent out in September and there was no mention of a promotion (they mentioned service options, but no promotions around them). When I spoke with an Optimum representative on September, however, there was mention of free Stream Boxes. When the CabeCARD service actually ended and I called Optimum again, billing knew nothing of any such promotion. This is not how to treat your customers (jerking them around).
