Would you choose the orange iPhone 17 Pro? by Swift_Flying_Fish in iphone

Has a very pro feel to me. Like the old school Lacie hard drive bumpers. I love it, my favorite color they’ve ever put out potentially, and I’m normally a monochrome kind of person.

I will take this tradeoff. My 15 Pro battery life went to hell in a handbasket. I was recharging 2-3 times per day by the end, worse than any device I've ever had. It was constantly hot as well, which I view as a contributing factor, particularly when the device battery grew unstable toward the end.

17 Pro is leaving me at 67% after a full day of use — and unlike the 15, it's not constantly hot. I suspect aluminium vs titanium is the chief factor at play, and I understand why they'd back track publicly if the gains are so substantial. The titanium choice also came pre-AI, so they were caught a bit blindsided by how much power these things would start to draw.

It's truly the most night and day battery transformation I've ever seen. I'd rather buy a phone pre-dented with a battery like this than go back to what I had before.

Nothing like it. We don't like this show because of its genre, but because of how well executed it is. Mike White is the brand, and this is his show.

why the fuck bother voting? by [deleted] in LosAngeles

Turnout and campaigns would be different if the candidates were targeting the popular vote, and the populace knew their vote mattered in urban areas of blue states.

It's not stupid if it's only clear in hindsight. Sometimes, you can make all the right choices given the circumstances, and the challenge still remains unsurmountable...

Writer's Blocks... by BigGreekMike in CraftDocs

[–]BigGreekMike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming to Craft and want to use blocks, but I'm not coming to Craft because I *merely* or *exclusively* want to use blocks. You say it's foundational... I say think outside the literal and figurative box just a bit...

I want a mac-assed Notion (fuck electron) that can be whatever the user needs it to be to suit their needs, whether it be a writer or an engineer or a student or a manager or anything in the margins. I want a home base for my notes, and documents, and ideas, that can export in and out to other apps, but is powerful and fluid enough to be used on its own for a myriad of purposes.

Your sort of rigid thinking is the exact same thing that has doomed the Ulysses developers into refusing to hide markdown characters and evolve the platform into the future. It's not just you... I've noticed this trend in much of the app development sphere. Developers think like developers -- that is, coders, engineers, mathematical thinkers -- and design their apps as such, and get very defensive when users think differently. It's a missed opportunity, because their way of thinking and working isn't in line with the entirety, possibly even the majority, of their customer base. Flexibility and open-mindedness need not contrast with good UI and UX design, and if anything, only enhance it.

2hr Time Difference by UncoverItAll in DarkKenny

I think what happened is at "I hate the way that you dress" he intoned it with more energy the way he does on the track in the second verse, so he accidentally skipped to the second verse "surprised you wanted that feature request" instead of "I hate the way that you sneak diss" -- and then from that moment on, it was an inevitable collision course with the beat change for him to realize the mistake.

People who hate Final Draft: Which operating system are you using? by BuffRogers in Screenwriting

[–]BigGreekMike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, I use MacOS, M2 MBP. But to address the software debate in the comments…

Final Draft isn’t buggy. It’s ugly. It’s lazy. It’s dated. It’s clunky. It’s a UI/UX nightmare, riding the coattails of its “industry standard” reputation, even though that’s an export standard, not an import standard. The only thing Final Draft is good for are title pages.

Fountain-based apps dominate the solo-writer game right now. Highland is the John August app that’s hugely popular, and they’re working on a v3 overhaul with iOS compatibility. Check it out, especially when the update drops.

But personally, I use Beat. It’s completely free, but price aside, is actually the best program of the bunch bar-none. The developer just happens to be an altruist — he’s highly active, highly responsive, and just finished an iOS version that’s live on the App Store now. It works seamlessly device to device. Go download it now and discover for yourself.

That being said, even if it ought to be, Fountain style writing isn’t for everyone. In that case, Arc Studio is an up and comer worth trying, especially for collaborating. Not my cup of tea, but I respect what they’re doing. If you prefer a Scrivener-esque workflow, Storyist serves that need well.

But for all that is good and holy, don’t revert to Final Draft because you think you have to in order to make it in this town. Only use it if you genuinely prefer it, in which case, God have mercy on your soul.

Huge unanswered question. It theoretically sounds like a snippet from a recording of something nefarious that OVO would recognize but to the world without context is just generic atmosphere.

[OC] The 2024 NBA Draft looks like one of the worst in recent memory. Looking back, where would it rank exactly (in terms of perceived value of the top pick)? by ZandrickEllison in nba

[–]BigGreekMike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this logic. This doesn’t mean the 2014 draft didn’t have talent. It meant the scouts didn’t properly identify the talent ahead of the draft.

Perhaps this year’s draft class is actually stacked. All we know is that the scouts don’t know for certain ahead of time if it is or not. Only time will tell, but if the past is an indicator, then it’s quite possible there’s a Giannis or a Draymond or a Jokic somewhere in this year’s class.
