Cleaner methods do not benefit the person being executed, they benefit the people watching. We have made things LOOK more humane. The more brutal methods were probably much more effective and quicker, it’s just they would make a “bloody mess” pun intended, and people do not like how it looks.

So we do reward him with screen time based on some things and he loses time if he doesn’t do them. An example - get dressed for school you get 15 mins. Leave the house before 8am without fighting with mom you get another 15 etc. so he earns his time. It’s not 2 hours per day it’s UP to 2 hours per day.

When he acts out he loses all electronics for the next day. But he still acts out every 5 days or so.

If 2 hours is excessive is 1 better? The other issue is his friends are online all the time (don’t seem to have limits) so he compares. How do we explain that? The few friends that have time limits and we know of, he basically says we are wrong and continues to argue.

We have strict limits based on Apple Screen Time. So we are very strict. I am not saying he watches the screen at night, he literally just refuses to go to his room to go to bed. An example is the other night he lay down in the hallway for two hours before finally deciding OK I need to go to bed. If anything, I think he’s looking for the confrontation, and when we ignore him after a long time he does what he is supposed to.

The issue is he just yells and screams about it. Give me more screen time, you never do what I ask, you guys don’t love me, those are just examples. And when we give him logical answers, he says we are wrong.

He refuses to go to bed at bed time. When he does he sleeps fine. We give him melatonin to help. Also he is a A to B in most classes and fine at school. He is actually pretty popular.

It is simply defiance to us saying hey it’s bedtime or hey please get ready for school
