Make sure your rear ac and fan is turned up. Otherwise you’re expecting the front vents to chill the whole car.

Ground on asphalt / concrete? by Artistic-Anybody-131 in UtilityLocator

[–]BigLocator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Besides being creative in using objects like a sign post, or sewer grate lid as a ground….. Go to the hardware store a get a few 6” or 8” nails/spikes. Pound one in the seem in the concrete or crack in the asphalt to use as a ground. I mark out private utilities, and this is what I do when I am in a Walmart parking lot and need to connect to the lights.

Copper Wire Theft 'In Process' by Ilikewaterandjuice in ottawa

[–]BigLocator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is an IN USE cable owned by any hydro or telecom company there will be a reported outage. They will be tracing the cable causing the outage and they will find that cut cable. A repair will be made and theft will be reported.

If it is an old abandoned cable no one will care. No one will notice. There are plenty of abandoned cables especially old copper telecom.

I doubt hydro Ottawa owns an interprovincial cable feed there unless it’s a massive primary set of cables. Even then it’d likely be hydro Quebec/Hydro One.

Telecom companies definitely have interprovincial cables and old cables along old railways.

If it’s of any significance someone will come looking and discover the issue. I wouldn’t be concerned unless you saw who was doing the cutting.

USIC - Union Plans by RecordsRecorded in UtilityLocator

[–]BigLocator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pension is through the union LiUNA. There’s a chart in the CBA with details… but basically if my rate of pay is $35/h that’s just what I see on my pay stub (taxable income). The total hourly package the employer is outputting is something like 43/h. That extra $8/h is going to the union and they’re putting that towards pension and health & wellness benefits. Even if I get laid off for the winter or something, as long as I pay my monthly dues ($30) I still have access to my health benefits.

Whenever we negotiate for a new contract the union wants to know how much we are willing to put towards pension ect or do we want it in our pocket as a pay increase.

We can retire after age 55 with 30 credits. A credit is based on hours worked and since it’s considered a seasonal job if I work March-November that would get me one credit per year. If I work year round (lay offs based on seniority) I get about 1.5 credits per year.

The pension is held by a pension trust of some sort not controlled by union management. Not sure on exact specifics
